They have accepted an important task of creating an environment through which the children and teens of our parish can grow in knowledge that leads to practice their faith in their daily lives. To help achieve this, the Religious Education Program offers opportunities for faith formation, prayer experiences, sacramental opportunities, liturgical celebrations, and service opportunities to help deepen and strengthen our relationship with God and others. GOALS - Bring about in the children, youth, adults and families a deeper knowledge and love for Jesus Christ and assist in the development of their faith lives. - Prepare the children, youth, adults and families to receive the Sacraments of Initiation. - Foster and enhance a cooperative spirit between parents and catechists in faith formation. - Encourage a sense of belonging and participation in the life of the parish and the broader Church. As important as our Religious Education Teachers are in the Mission and Goals, the true teachers of the children and teens are their parents and families. If the parents and extended family members do not support the teachings they receive in our Religious Education Program then the students will not fully be able to integrate the teachings of our faith with daily living of faith. Rev. William Lego, OSA Prayer for Catechists O God, our Heavenly Father, You have given us the gift of these catechists to be heralds of the Gospel to our parish family. We lift them up to You in thanksgiving and intercede for them concerning their hopes and needs. May we be attentive to the presence of your Word in them, a Word that lifts up and affirms, calls forth and challenges, is compassionate and consoles. We pray that our parish family will always be blessed with those who have responded to the call to share in Christ s prophetic mission as catechists. Si los padres y miembros de la familia extendida no apoyan las enseñanzas que reciben en nuestro Programa de Educación Religiosa, entonces los estudiantes no podrán integrar completamente "las enseñanzas" de nuestra fe con la "vida diaria" de la fe. Pd. Guillermo Lego, OSA DIOS ESTÁ DEL LADO DE LOS POBRES Dos de las lecturas de hoy ponen muy en claro que Dios está del lado de los pobres. Amós describe en detalle el abuso de los pobres y necesitados. El Salmo repite que Dios actúa en beneficio de los pobres y los humildes. Pero Lucas pone las cosas de cabeza, contando una historia de un mayordomo en conflicto, a punto de ser despedido, que demuestra astucia y es recompensado. Como la comunidad a la que Pablo escribe en Timoteo, estas lecturas son personales, dirigidas a los creyentes, miembros de las comunidades judías y cristianas que tienen dificultades con elecciones personales de cómo conducir sus vidas. Ofrecen un bosquejo de cómo Dios desea que vivamos en un mundo tan complicado y tan confundido como el nuestro. Amos describes in detail the exploitation of the poor and needy. The psalm repeats that God acts to benefit the poor and lowly. But Luke turns things upside down, telling a tale of a conflicted steward, about to be fired, who demonstrates his cleverness and is rewarded. Like the community to whom Paul writes in Timothy, these readings are personal, directed to believers, members of the Jewish and Christian communities, who struggle to deal with personal choices about how to conduct their lives. They offer an outline for how God wishes us to live in a world as complicated and as confusing as our own. Catechist Needed We are in need of individuals who are willing to share their faith. Our Religious Education program continues to grow and we are in need of catechists and aides for all grade levels. Who are we looking for? You - yes you - caring individuals who love their faith and want to make a difference in a child s faith formation. I think we have many parishioners who would be perfect for this and would be great at bringing the word of God to the children of our parish who are not able to attend Catholic schools. Why not give it a try, volunteer as a catechist or aide. It will make a difference in your life and in the lives of the children you teach. Won t you please help us by volunteering as a catechist so that we can continue to accept all the children who come to us to be formed in the Catholic faith? We are also in need of adults who could help us with our traffic control at the beginning of classes and at dismissal. Because of the number of children in our program, the traffic has created a problem around the Church and School. We need adults to help with this problem. Citizenship Outreach Fairs CHICAGO - Congressman Dan Lipinski is hosting two citizenship outreach fairs to help residents learn how to become naturalized citizens. The fairs will include information booklets as well as presentations from US Citizenship and Immigration Services on how to submit applications for work permits and other forms. Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in mock interviews. Both fairs are on Tuesday, October 1st. It will be known as the Southside Benefit. The fundraiser will take place on Sunday, September 22, 2019, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. It will be held at 115 Bourbon Street, 3359 West 115th Street, Merrionette Park, Illinois.
