Our Parish School: We are part of an excellent co-sponsored elementary school: All Saints Academy. For information call: 201-443-8384 Religious Education For Children: CCD classes are held every Sunday from September through April at 9:15 am. Classes are conducted in our school building. Confessions: Daily Monday to Saturday following the 7:00 am Mass. Saturday afternoons at 4:00 pm. Sacrament Of The Sick: Sick Calls or other Emergency Calls should be made to the rectory at any time. Arrangements can also be made for regular visitations at home or hospital for Holy Communion and/or Confession. We urge you to keep us aware of parishioners who are ill in the hospital or at home. Marriages: Please make arrangements at least one year in advance. Couples are urged to solemnize their vows at a Nuptial Mass. Baptisms: The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated each month on the First Sunday (in English) and on the Third Sunday (in Polish). A required Baptismal Program for Parents is conducted at 1:00 pm on the second Sunday of the month in Polish and on the last Sunday in English. And, it has gone by so quickly! We have lost friends and family members in 2015. We feel the pain of that loss. We miss them and remember them fondly. Perhaps we will be shocked enough to stop violence and care for this little planet. The only planet we have! The Catholic Church in Bayonne is being re-born. As with any birth, there is pain and fear. But as with all births, there will be New Life & Joy! The Promise of the Future! What is really important? As we get older, we come to realize that it is not things that are important; but the people we love and the memories we treasure. We can never lose those memories. Money comes and goes. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION This New Year s Eve, at the turning of the year, you may catch a glimpse of the old year, a cartoon figure of a hunched old man with a sickle, Father Time. Did you know that the model for that image was a Pope? December 31 was in the old calendar the feast of St. Sylvester. Legend says that Sylvester healed the Emperor Constantine of leprosy, and presided at the liturgy of baptism for the grateful emperor. In 314, he was chosen pope, and it fell to him to organize the peacetime church, free at last from persecution. He founded the Lateran Basilica, the cathedral of the Diocese of Rome. In northern Europe Sylvester Night is a time of great parties with eating, dancing, and singing recalling perhaps the joy of the church in the fresh air of Sylvester s papacy. In Poland, there was great fear as the year 1000 approached that an immense dragon would devour the earth and set fire to the heavens. The people prayed earnestly to St. Sylvester, trusting that the saint would not permit such suffering on his feast day. They ve been celebrating ever since! Many New Year s customs have pagan roots, like the British First Footer tradition. The idea is that the first person setting foot into your house in the new year determines the luck for the year ahead. The ideal first footer was not a bit like old Pope Sylvester, but rather a tall, dark-haired man carrying the right gift. A handsome first footer meant the year ahead would be pleasant, and if he carried bread or a shovel of coal there would be food and warmth in the future. Who will be your household s first footer?

. UROCZYSTOŚĆ ŚWIĘTEJ BOŻEJ RODZICIELKI 1 STYCZNIA Pierwszy dzień Nowego Roku to ósmy dzień od Narodzenia Jezusa. Według prawa żydowskiego każdy chłopiec miał być tego dnia obrzezany. W oktawę Bożego Narodzenia, dziękując Bogu za przyjście na świat Chrystusa, Kościół obchodzi uroczystość Maryi jako Matki Bożej, przez którą spełniły się obietnice dane całej ludzkości, związane z tajemnicą Odkupienia. Tego dnia z wszystkich przymiotów Maryi czcimy szczególnie Jej macierzyństwo. Dziękujemy Jej także za to, że swą macierzyńską opieką otacza cały Lud Boży. Poświęcenie Maryi pierwszego dnia rozpoczynającego się roku ma także inne znaczenie. Matka Jezusa zostaje ukazana ludziom jako najdoskonalsze stworzenie, a zarazem jako pierwsza z tych, którzy skorzystali z darów Chrystusa. Pragnienie zaakcentowania specjalnego wspomnienia Matki Bożej zrodziło się już w starożytności chrześcijańskiej. Kościół zachodni już w VII wieku wyznaczył w tym celu dzień 1 stycznia. Uroczystość Świętej Bożej Rodzicielki Maryi to najstarsze maryjne święto. Do liturgii Kościoła wprowadził je dość późno papież Pius XI w roku 1931 na pamiątkę 1500. rocznicy soboru w Efezie (431). Pius XI wyznaczył na coroczną pamiątkę tego święta dzień 11 października. Reforma liturgiczna w roku 1969 nie zniosła tego święta, ale podniosła je do rangi uroczystości nakazanych i przeniosła na 1 stycznia. Spośród szczególnych przywilejów Maryi na pierwszym miejscu trzeba wymienić Jej Boskie macierzyństwo, które w dzisiejszej uroczystości czcimy.
