(773) Reflecting on God s Word Certain questions change lives, depending on our answer: Do you take this person to be your husband/wife? Do you want this job? Can you forgive me? The question Jesus asks today is one that certainly changes lives. Our response is not simply an academic exercise, a matter of knowing the right answer we learned from a book. Our answer must lead to a commitment that is to be lived out each day of our lives. Peter s answer certainly changed the course of his life. Jesus recognized that it was not Peter s innate knowledge, or that of any other person, that had given Peter his response: You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. It was the Father. And so Jesus declares that Peter will be the one to lead the other disciples and all who would come after. Simon, son of John, isherman, husband, brother and one who would deny he ever knew Christ! he was to be the rock on which Jesus would build the church. His response was life-changing. Peter s answer was not a perfect one, as we shall see next week. Even so, Jesus accepts it as an indication that his Father is at work in those called to be with him who would continue his work. The Father chose to work in fallible human beings. We may not think of ourselves as rocks, but the future of the church depends on how well each one of us lives out the answer to this question, Who do you say that I am? James A. Wallace, C.Ss.R. 3 th Anniversar of Religious Vows of Rev. Paul Furdzik, OCD Father Paul Peter Furdzik was born on May 16, 1969 in Wadowice. After completing studies at the General Liberal Arts High School in Wadowice and successfully passing his maturity exam, he entered the Polish Province of the Discalced Carmelites in Fr. Paul professed his irst Religious Vows on October 10, He carried out his novitiate at Czerna near Kraków, studied philosophy in Poznań, and studied theology in Rome at the Ponti ical Theological Faculty, the Teresianum. In 1994, he began studies for his master s degree in the Department of Theoretical Philosophy at the Catholic University in Lublin. In 1995 he was ordained a priest. In 1998 he received the degree of Master of Philosophy, and in 2003 he defended his doctoral dissertation, entitled Contemplation as a manifestation of man s most perfect personal life according to the formulation of St. Thomas Aquinas. In the years he worked on the editorial staff at the publishing house of the Krakow Province of the Discalced Carmelites in Kraków, and carried out priestly duties as well. In 2006, he came to the Discalced Carmelite Fathers Monastery in Munster, Indiana, where he stayed until 2010, carrying out pastoral work at this church and among Polish-Americans. On December 1, 2010, Francis Cardinal George, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Chicago, appointed Father Paul associated pastor of St. Camillus Parish. Po ukończeniu Liceum Ogólnokształcącego w Wadowicach i pomyślnym zdaniu matury, w 1988 r. wstąpił do Polskiej Prowincji Karmelitów Bosych. Śluby zakonne Ojciec Paweł złożył w dniu 10 października 1989 r. Nowicjat odbył w Czernej koło Krakowa, ilozo ię studiował w Poznaniu, a teologię w Rzymie, w Papieskim Wydziale Teologicznym "Teresianum". W 1994 r. rozpoczął studia magisterskie na Wydziale Filozo ii Teoretycznej w KUL-u. W 1995 r. otrzymał święcenia kapłańskie. W 1998 r. otrzymał tytuł magistra ilozo ii, a w 2003 obronił pracę doktorską pt. Kontemplacja jako przejaw najdoskonalszego życia osobowego człowieka w ujęciu świętego Tomasza z Akwinu. W latach pracował w Wydawnictwie Krakowskiej Prowincji Karmelitów Bosych w Krakowie na stanowisku redaktorskim oraz sprawował posługę kapłańską. W 2006 roku przyjechał do klasztoru Karmelitów Bosych w Munster, Indiana, gdzie przebywał do roku 2010 pracując duszpastersko w tutejszym kościele i wśród polonii amerykańskiej. W dniu 1 grudnia 2010, roku Arcybiskup Archidiecezji Chicagowskiej, Ks. Kardynał Francis George mianował Ojca Pawła wikariuszem para ii św. Kamila w Chicago.
