(773) Jubilee Year of Mercy Many icons depicting Jesus trans iguration bear the Greek title Metamorphosis, a technical term also for nature s springtime transformation. Fittingly, this Jubilee Year of Mercy coincides with the Lectionary s Year of Luke, for only Luke speci ies Moses and Elijah speaking about Jesus exodus that he was going to accomplish in Jerusalem (Luke 9:31). Israel s exodus liberated from slavery; Jesus exodus liberates from sin s living death of sel ishness. Pope Francis suggests that Lent s prayer, fasting, and works of charity can trans igure the world, if Christians translate Isaiah s challenge into our daily lived experience of Jesus life-giving exodus by releasing those bound unjustly, setting free the oppressed, sharing your bread with the hungry, bringing the af licted and homeless into your house, clothing the naked, not turning your back on your own. If you remove from your midst oppression, and malicious speech... then light shall rise for you in the darkness... you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring whose water never fails (Isaiah 58:9, 10, 11). 5 USEFUL INFORMATION REGARDING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE JUBILEE Having Crossed the Doorway Once they have crossed through the Holy Door or Door of Mercy, or have ful illed one of the other conditions under which Pope Francis has granted the Jubilee Indulgence (for example, for the sick, for the imprisoned, or for anyone who carries out in person a work of mercy), in addition to the usual conditions which require a heart well-disposed for the grace to bring its desired fruits, the faithful should stop in prayer to ful ill the inal actions asked for: the profession of faith, and prayer for the Holy Father and his intentions. The latter should be at least an Our Father the prayer in which Jesus himself taught us to turn as children to the Father but it could possibly be more.
