Pastor`s Letter / List Księdza Proboszcza The first reading praises wisdom as the greatest treasure that we may strive for in life. Solomon, as the son of a great king, David, chose wisdom as paramount in managing the Kingdom of Israel, as it guarantees stability and justice. He also indicated that God is the source of wisdom. We must do the same when managing our lives: with wisdom we must choose God as the greatest treasure and the foundation of our existence. We are reminded of this by today s Gospel, where Jesus Christ continues his teachings on the Kingdom of God. Christ compares it to a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again, and out of joy sells all he has and buys that field, or to the merchant who, when he found a pearl of great price, went and sold all he had and bought it. It was customary during the time of wars to bury treasure in the ground in an attempt to conceal it from thieves; if the owners of the land did not return, the land changed hands. Those working in the fields sometimes found the treasure and sold everything, even incurred debt, in order to purchase the land and its hidden treasures. The treasure then became the basis of their new life. Similarly, a connoisseur of pearls upon seeing a one-of-a-kind, most valuable pearl sold his entire inventory in order to purchase the one he so treasured. He did so quickly, so that no one would buy it from under his nose. Christ used these real-life situations to explain the mysteries of the Kingdom of God, in this case: allowing wisdom to guide you so you may administer your life well, basing it on God as your greatest treasure. Compared with all other things we find valuable in life, God is like the most beautiful pearl; like a treasure we find buried in the ground. A treasure we must find everyday by getting rid of all our other possessions, those not worthy of our effort and dedication. The following example compares God to a net cast into the sea; a net that catches an enormous amount of fish. The good ones, we take the bad ones, we leave behind. The last example compares God to the head of the family who takes old and new items out of his treasury and triumphantly demonstrates his wealth, accumulated thanks to wisdom and betting on God. I hope that we, also, may acquire this wisdom. We are considering introducing an additional Mass in Spanish for the many Spanish-speaking families who have joined our parish community. We must not abandon them, just like Jesus Christ has never abandoned anyone. These families have come to me and asked for the possibility of praying in their native language and upholding their native culture. For now, a mass in Spanish will be held only once a month, on the last Sunday of every month, at 3:30 PM. After receiving permission from the Bishop, we may be able to have mass in Spanish every Sunday at 3:30 PM. I ask you to welcome our Spanish-speaking brothers and sisters with great love and understanding. I hope that they will enrich our community and become active and proud members of St. William Parish. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank you for the kindness and welcome you have shown to me as your new Pastor here at St. William. I will do everything possible to help us get to know our Lord better and cherish Him more. Thank you all of your for your offerings for the renovation of our parish s buildings, and especially the convent. I really want the Albertine sisters who serve at our parish to finally have a place to call their own. I know many of you help them out financially or by offering them your time and hard work. May God repay you for your kind efforts! Porównuje je do skarbu ukrytego w roli. Znalazł go pewien człowiek i ukrył ponownie. 3 PM. Wiem, że wielu z was wspiera je własnie w sposób finansowy albo oferując swoją pracę w wolnym czasie. Szczere Bóg zapłać. Ks. Ryszard Gron, proboszcz. 2

DZIĘKUJĘ - GRAZIE - THANK YOU - GRACIAS 17 TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME "When he finds a pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it." Jesus today gives us the image of a merchant who knows he has discovered a great treasure. In fact, its value is so tremendous that the man is willing to sell everything else in order to possess it. Why? Because he knows it will all be worth it. He knows that the pearl will bring him more reward than anything else he has ever owned, more even than all his possessions combined. This Gospel story is meant to help us understand the unfathomable value of the kingdom of heaven. Nothing else can compare to it. No material item, no honor or success, can compete with this pearl of great price. Everything we have, short of this, is finite: limited, temporary, and ultimately fleeting. Eternal happiness, on the other hand, is infinite. It never ends. This is the deep contentment, the satisfaction, the peace, and happiness that we crave, the kind that doesn't disappoint. Like the merchant in the parable, we too should understand the value of this discovery. As Christians, we have "found" the treasure beyond all other treasures! Life in Christ, both now and in heaven, is truly the pearl of great price. The only question is whether we are willing to "sell" all that we have to obtain it. In other words, are we willing to release the other things that claim hold on us? Are we ready to put Christ first in our lives? All of us need to take pause from time to time and examine our attachments and priorities. Money, pleasure, success, or comfort can often seem so important to us that we falsely begin to imagine these things will bring the happiness we so desire. But the message is loud and clear today: the kingdom of heaven is the true treasure we long for. EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP My wife is a big Dave Ramsey fan. She loves when he tells people that in order to pay down their debt they need to sell so many of their possessions that the kids think that even they can be sold for the right price. He definitely sees earthly possessions as simply tools to be used and not "possessed." This is a tough, countercultural message for sure in the eyes of the average American. Too often, our self-worth is derived from our wealth and the items we own. The size of our house, the brand of our car, and the quantity of our belongings are all gauges of success in our world. For Ramsey, not only can you not truly own anything if you owe money to others, it belongs to God anyway and is only given to us as stewards. Could you sell all you have right now? Could you walk away from all that you have amassed and be truly free? When Jesus speaks of the merchant who sells all he has to obtain a pearl of great price, he calls us to see the pearl as the kingdom of heaven. Nothing on earth can rival the value of the kingdom. If that is true, why is it so hard to surrender everything to God to obtain it? It can be fear that keeps us from stepping out in faith. It can be selfishness that prevents us from letting go. Whatever it is, we must face the fact that we are "possessed" by it. The good news is that God does not expect us to conquer this obstacle on our own. But with God, all things are possible. - A skąd pani wie?
