John 3:17 GOD S MERCY Today s reading from the second book of Chronicles contains a sort of minihistory of Israel. It highlights God s mercies in choosing Cyrus the Persian to be an instrument of deliverance when the people were in captivity in Babylon. Despite their sinfulness and the deserved punishment they were undergoing, God s mercy was lavished on the people in the form of a miraculous act of liberation. The Letter to the Ephesians, in much more theological terms, gives a similar account of a God who brought us to life with Christ by the grace you have been saved. The author stresses that it was when we were dead in our transgressions that God saved us, an act of pure grace. He emphasizes that it is not our own efforts that freed us from sin ( this is not from you ); rather, it is the gift of God. This, of course, is the heart of the entire Pauline corpus, that salvation comes to us by faith in God s mercy, revealed in the death of Jesus. This week s second collection is designated for our Partner s In Charity Appeal. You may also place your Catholic Relief Services envelope in the same collection. Next week s second collection is for Utilities and Energy and all remaining envelopes. PARTNERS IN CHARITY Open Wide the Doors to Christ-this annual Diocesan Campaign is the lifeline to support so many diocesan charitable agencies who serve people in need. We can open wide the doors to Christ by supporting these programs, agencies and offices that do the work of Christ through their ministries. I hope that through our common effort we will join other parishes and meet our assigned quota of $25,000. Page 3 PILGRIMAGE FROM NEW BRITAIN Today we welcome the pilgrims from New Britain and Holy Cross Church. This pilgrimage coincides with the beginning of our Retreat and also the Feast of St. Joseph, faithful guardian of Jesus Christ. Our guests will join us at 11:00am Mass followed by lunch in the cafeteria and Lenten devotions at 3:00pm. We pray that all participants will reap benefits from attending Divine Worship and Devotional Services. RETREAT This week we welcome Bishop Stanislaw Stefanek and Msgr. James Moroney as retreat masters. The retreat in English will begin on Saturday, March 17 at 4:00pm Mass. and conclude on Wednesday, March 21with a bilingual Mass. Schedule-6:30pm on Mon., Mar. 19, bilingual Mass, Tues., Mar. 20, Liturgy of the Word and Wed., Mar. 21, bilingual Mass. We ask parishioners to join us for this unique time in our parish community life, not only because it is the Lenten season, but more importantly our Jubilee Year. Each one of us should make an effort to religiously participate in these every day services. I ask you to pray to the Holy Spirit for a successful retreat. SOLEMNITY OF SAINT JOSEPH This Mon., Mar. 19 we will celebrate the Solemnity of St. Joseph, our Patron Saint with a concelebrated Mass at 6:30pm with the presence of local clergy in the intention of all those who participate in the retreat. We encourage every parishioner to join us on this most special day. JUBILEE REFLECTIONS Jubilee year by its nature directs our minds and thoughts to the past, to learn to rediscover something which could be of interest or value for all of us. Similarly, as Christians, we constantly recall the history of salvation and are mesmerized by great figures such as Abraham, Moses, Jeremiah, etc. We think of heroic individuals such as Mother Teresa and Blessed John Paul II and we consider them as people of talent and total dedication to their causes. But salvation history also has persons who at the beginning had difficulties, but later on became cornerstones for their people, e.g., Joseph whose brothers sold him to Egypt and Francis of Assisi who was disowned and disinherited by his father. But then, what about us? We can look up to our families and our parents who really were the cornerstones of Saint Joseph Church. Many of them were without special talents or unusual skills, but they displayed uncompromising dedication and total loyalty and indeed became the foundation for the development of Saint Joseph parish. Their names are not only listed in various anniversary books but more importantly are also etched on the walls of our Church. During the Lenten Season, we look on Jesus who was rejected by his contemporaries and yet became a cornerstone of the splendid edifice of the Catholic Church and through his death and resurrection earned for humankind eternal salvation. He was the only superhuman, a Son of God, who changed our lives. In this Jubilee year and Lenten Season Jesus is challenging each one of us to come home with the loyalty and dedication of our forefathers and rediscover God s goodness and mercy. PILGRIMAGE TO THE DIVINE MERCY SHRINE - in Stockbridge, MA - on Sat., Apr. 14th. In the tradition of the Church, pilgrimages were and are devotional practices. Our pilgrimage comes on the vigil of Divine Mercy Sunday which is a very meaningful day. This weekend people will come from various parts of our country for the Sunday celebration. On behalf of our parish, this will be our Jubilee Pilgrimage and to avoid the crowds we chose to participate on Sat. At this time we can carry our personal intentions and petitions to the Shrine. We will leave at 9:00am and return at 7:00pm. The cost is only $25 per person. Last call to reserve a seat by Mar. 25. At the Offertory, they will bring their papers up to the cross and put them in the Lenten Flower sacrifice basket. They will receive a flower to place at the base of the cross. The Confirmation Class is working on a special project making videos of the statues, paintings and stained glass windows of our Church. KRONIKA PARAFIALNA CZWARTA NIEDZIELA WIELKIEGO POSTU 18 marca 2012 Albowiem Bóg nie posłał swego Syna na świat po to, aby świat potępił, ale po to, by świat został przez Niego zbawiony. (J 3, 17) Jezus wywyższony na krzyżu domaga się wiary. Zbawienie, które stało się możliwe dzięki krwawej ofierze Syna Człowieczego, nie jest adresowane do anonimowych gapiów, ale do każdego człowieka, który uniesie głowę i zobaczy Ukrzyżowanego. Łaską Boga jesteśmy zbawieni, ale dzięki osobistej wierze. Kto uwierzy i wejdzie w orbitę Światłości, ten ma szansę na wiarę coraz bardziej dojrzałą, ale i wymagającą, na życie w prawdzie i na jej owocowanie w uczynkach. Kto pozostanie w ciemnościach, ten będzie rodził czyny złe, pogrążając się w niewierze, i nie będzie zdolny przyjąć łaski zbawienia. Wybór należy do nas. Dzisiejsza druga kolekta jest przeznaczona na Partners in Charity. Koperty z ofiarą na Catholic Relief Service można również składać do tego samego koszyka. Page 5 REFLEKSJA JUBILEUSZOWA Rok Jubileuszowy ze swej natury kieruje nasze myśli do przeszłości, aby uczyć się na nowo odkrywać coś, co może być interesujące lub wartościowe dla nas wszystkich. Podobnie, jako chrześcijanie, nieustannie wspominamy historię zbawienia i wpatrujemy się w wielkie postaci historyczne takie jak Abraham, Mojżesz, Jeremiasz, itp. W czasie Wielkiego Postu, patrzymy na Jezusa, który został odrzucony przez współczesnych, a jednak stał się kamieniem węgielnym wspaniałej budowli - Kościoła Katolickiego i przez swoją śmierć i zmartwychwstanie zdobył dla ludzkości wieczne zbawienie. W Roku Jubileuszowym i w Wielkim Poście, Jezus wzywa do "Powrotu do domu" z lojalnością i poświęceniem naszych przodków, odkrywając Bożą dobroć i miłosierdzie. PARTNERS IN CHARITY Otwórzcie drzwi Chrystusowi. Ta diecezjalna, coroczna kampania to ogromna pomoc dla wielu programów służących ludziom w potrzebie. Jezus powiedział, że cokolwiek uczynimy jednemu z tych braci Jego najmniejszych to uczynimy Jemu samemu. Otwórzmy, zatem drzwi Chrystusowi, który chce pomagać innym poprzez nasze zaangażowanie i poparcie dla programów, agencji i biur, które w imieniu Chrystusa służą najsłabszym. Ogromne zapotrzebowanie na pomoc i jednoczesne doświadczenie lat ubiegłych sprawia, że do naszej wspólnoty parafialnej diecezja zwróciła się z prośbą o zgromadzenie 25 tyś dolarów. To bardzo duża suma, ale pamiętajmy, ze nie chodzi tu o zebranie takiej czy innej sumy, ale o pozytywną odpowiedź na wołanie o pomoc, tych, którzy sami nie potrafią zaradzić swoim biedom i potrzebom. Wielu z nas zmaga się ze swoimi trudnościami i problemami, również natury finansowej, dlatego też mając świadomość jak czasami jest trudno, pomyślmy o tych, którzy mają dużo mniej albo nie mają wcale.
