It means that first we recognize that everything we have and everything we are truly belongs to God. It also means that we are willing to use our gifts and our lives to care for the world just as God cares for us. FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT March 25, 2012 I will place my law within them and write it upon their hearts; I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Jeremiah 31:33 THE NEW COVENANT Today s first reading is an enormously important passage, not only in the history of the Jewish people, but also for us as disciples of Jesus, who see in it a foreshadowing of the Christian dispensation. The prophet announces that God has chosen to forgive the people, and that as a sign of divine forgiveness a new covenant will be established. Contrasting the new covenant with the one made with Moses on Mount Sinai, Jeremiah says that the new covenant will be written on the people s hearts rather than on tablets of stone. No longer will the community s tradition be the sole bearer of the covenant; henceforth, God will speak directly and personally to each individual, forgiving sin and calling for a return to God in faithfulness. No longer will mere outward compliance with the dictates of the Law suffice; henceforth, God asks for an obedience that springs from the depths of one s heart. Precisely that kind of obedience is highlighted in today s second reading, where the author of the Letter to the Hebrews describes Jesus as the mediator of the new covenant whose obedience has made him the source of salvation for all who, in turn, obey him. The second collection this weekend is taken for Utilities & Energy Costs. The second collection next weekend is designated for Diocesan Obligations. (in English) ST. JOSEPH POLISH WOMENS CLUB We welcome the members of the St. Joseph Polish Women s Club to the Sunday 8:15am Annual Communion Mass. Following Divine Worship members will meet at Colonial Club for breakfast. The St. Joseph Polish Women s Club was established almost 60 years ago to provide support to St. Joseph School, faculty and the Felician Sisters to foster the education of the children in our school. This organization provides various scholarships for children of mothers who are good standing members. In these difficult economic times parents make every effort to give the best education in private schools and therefore any financial assistance is helpful. I encourage parents whose children attend our school and parishioners to join this distinguished organization for a common good. May God bless the Executive Board and all the members. Thus, far, our parish family has raised $8,920 toward our parish goal of $25,000. Many have still not had the opportunity to make their gift, but we hope you will do so in the next few weeks. FOR YOUR INFORMATION Students from Germany from schools familiar to Msgr. Czarnecki would like to participate in a Summer-Four-Week- English Language Program at St. Joseph School. At the present time we are looking for hosting families to accommodate the students during that period. A small amount of money will be allocated to the host family as a bonus for that purpose. Please return the questionnaire form included in our bulletin a couple of weeks ago by April 1st. Parents of the students from Poland who in previous years studied at our school have extended an invitation to our students for a four-week enrichment/vacation program in Poland from June 18 July 16. This will include touring of major cities, such as Warsaw & Krakow, etc., getting acquainted with the educational curriculum, room and board, air travel, all admission fees to public and historical buildings, comfortable accommodations with English speaking families and meals. All the above mentioned for approximately $2300. This is an open invitation for only St. Joseph School students Grades 5-8, or our graduates up to age 17, or the children of parents who previously hosted the Polish students. Deadline is April 16th. CATHOLIC YOUTH GROUP Soup Meal Thank You - Thank you to everyone who helped make the Youth Group s Soup Meal a great success. Thank you to all the volunteers, cooks, bakers and attendees. Without your help this wonderful event is not possible. We raised a total of $850 and we will donate $425 to The Society of St. Vincent de Paul and $425 to The Bread of Life Kitchen. Youths Needed to Participate in Passion Play - Youths in grades 5-12 are invited to participate in this year s Passion Play at Sacred Heart Church on Good Friday, April 6th at noon. Mrs. Sylvia Kitka and Ms. Betty Sabaj who attended the Annual Stewardship Conference last fall, emphasized to the Parish Council the success of online giving in many parishes throughout the United States. On recommendation of the Parish Council we investigated the possibility and cost effectiveness of online giving at St. Joseph Parish. We learned that our parish software where we record your envelopes is compatible with online giving, therefore, your online contributions will be automatically included in our system and reflected on your annual statement. For the last month Sylvia Kitka tested the program by scheduling a full year of online contributions including regular Sunday and special collections. We are pleased to report that the system works well, therefore we invite the parishioners to try it. Enclosed in this bulletin is a flyer explaining the benefits of online giving and instructions for account set up. 4 Page 4 RETREAT REFLECTIONS I am grateful for all parishioners and friends who participated in our Jubilee Lenten Retreat. It has been customary for centuries that Catholics in the Lenten Season take time to participate in retreats or missions. In fact, one gets the feeling that something is missing if we don t participate in the Lenten renewal program. Bishop Stanislaw Stefanek from Poland and Msgr. James Moroney provided inspirational material for reflection and meditation. I was pleased with the attendance, especially on St. Joseph Day. As we move toward the conclusion of the Lenten Season I encourage parishioners who have the time and are able, to take advantage of attending week day morning Masses, Stations of the Cross and Gorzkie Zale. We are grateful for the 100 people who came from New Britain, Hartford and vicinity to visit our Basilica last Sunday. They attended Mass, enjoyed a delicious lunch, participated in private meditation, prayed the Divine Mercy Chaplet and sang Gorzkie Zale. We are honored to have these Pilgrims join us in this Lenten Season on an annual basis. OFFICE OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION We are still in need of Catechists. If you are interested, please call the Religious Education office to learn more. We will do Spring Training so you can help in the Fall. Please consider this special work of our Church. Lenten Flower Sacrifices - This Lent, all young people are asked to make loving sacrifices and do good deeds for others during each week of Lent. Papers will be provided on the back table for children to write down their sacrifices and good deeds. At the Offertory, they will be invited to bring their papers up to the cross and put them in the Lenten Flower sacrifice basket. They will then receive a flower to place at the base of the cross. Their sacrifices will turn into a beautiful gift for Jesus at Easter! The Confirmation Class - is working on a special project making videos of the statues, paintings and stained glass windows of our Church. They are doing the research but we could use the help of parishioners in putting this project together. Please call the Religious Education Office for times we meet. #3 Parent/Student First Eucharist Session April 9th - at 5:30-6:30pm in the school cafeteria. Please note that there will be no planned make up session this month. If you are unable to attend, please contact Mrs. Jolda as soon as possible. Please pray during April - for our 20 young people who are preparing to make their First Holy Communion in May that their hearts are ready to receive Jesus. Echoes Course - Please note date changes. April 25th at 7:00pm and May 9th (will be our last session). UPCOMING EVENTS Parish Council - will meet on Wed., Mar. 28 at 6:30pm in the conference room. Będę im Bogiem, oni zaś będą Mi narodem. (Jer 31, 33) Począwszy od piątej niedzieli Wielkiego Postu, Kościół coraz bardziej koncentruje uwagę na tajemnicy krzyża. Czyni to jednak nie po to, byśmy współczuli cierpiącemu Jezusowi i litowali się nad Nim, ale byśmy przyjęli owoce Jego męki i śmierci. Jezus zapowiada swoją mękę jako wywyższenie, gdyż to właśnie w krzyżu nastąpił tryumf nad szatanem i jego dziełami oraz najpełniej objawiła się Boża miłość do każdego człowieka. Jeśli wierzymy tej miłości i pozwalamy się jej ogarnąć, stajemy się zdolni do tego, by rozpoznać i ukochać doświadczenie krzyża również i w naszym życiu. A wtedy będziemy w nim widzieć już nie samo cierpienie, ale drogę, która przez Dzisiejsza druga kolekta jest przeznaczona na pokrycie kosztów energii i utrzymania. Druga kolekta w przyszłą niedzielę będzie przeznaczona na zobowiązania diecezjalne.

PARTNERS IN CHARITY W ostatnim tygodniu wielu parafian już odpowiedziało na apel zapraszający do pomocy ludziom potrzebującym. Zebrane dotychczas środki to 8920 dolarów. Ciągle liczymy jeszcze na tych, którzy jeszcze nie mieli możliwości włączyć się w tę diecezjalną akcję. Odpowiednie koperty można znaleźć w ławkach w kościele. W imieniu tych, którzy skorzystają w potrzebie z darów serca, wszystkim ofiarodawcom składamy serdeczne Bóg zapłać. REFLEKSJA REKOLEKCYJNA Jestem bardzo wdzięczny wszystkim parafianom i wiernym, którzy wzięli udział w jubileuszowych rekolekcjach wielkopostnych. Dzięki naukom udzielanym przez J. E. ks. bpa Stanisława Stefanka i ks. prałata James'a Moroney otrzymaliśmy bogaty materiał do przemyśleń i rozważań nad nasza duchowością. Zachęcamy do dalszego pogłębiania i umacniania relacji z Bogiem poprzez uczestnictwo w nabożeństwach wielkopostnych. DEKORACJE NA CMENTARZU Bardzo prosimy o uporządkowanie nagrobków na naszym cmentarzu i usunięcie wszystkich dekoracji do1 kwietnia. Pozostawione dekoracje będą usunięte przez obsługę cmentarza. Jednocześnie przypominamy, że kwiaty przy pomniku nie powinny zajmować powierzchni większej niż 12 cali od pomnika. RELIGIA 3 sesja dzieci i rodziców do I Komunii św. odbędzie się 9 kwietnia w godzinach od 17:30 do 18:30 w szkolnej kafeterii. Ci, którzy nie będą w stanie wziąć w niej udziału proszeni są o kontakt z Marry Jolda - telefon na okładce biuletynu. W miesiącu kwietniu prosimy o szczególną modlitwę za dzieci przygotowujące się do przyjęcia Pierwszej Komunii Świętej, by ich serca były gotowe na przyjęcie Jezusa. OFIARY ONLINE Panie Sylwia Kitka i Betty Sabaj, uczestniczki corocznej konferencji dotyczącej "Stewardship", która odbyła się minionej jesieni, zaproponowały wprowadzenie możliwości składania ofiar na rzecz parafii za pomocą Internetu. Metoda ta skutecznie funkcjonuje w wielu parafiach na terenie całego kraju. Po sprawdzeniu takiej możliwości okazało się, że oprogramowanie jakiego używamy w kancelarii parafialnej jest kompatybilne z systemem umożliwiającym składanie datków w sieci. To co zostanie przekazane online jest automatycznie zapisywane w systemie parafialnym podobnie, jak ofiary składane w tradycyjny sposób. Zachęcamy zatem do korzystania z tej formy wspierania naszej parafii. Specjalny załącznik do biuletynu wyjaśnia w szczegółowy sposób możliwości tej nowej opcji. Czarneckiemu pragną wziąć udział w czterotygodniowym, letnim kursie języka angielskiego w St Joseph School. W chwili obecnej szukamy rodzin, które mogłyby ofiarować dzieciom gościnę w tym okresie.
