SCHOOL NEWS... Welcome to our Amazing First Grade class at SFB where our students grow academically, emotionally, socially as well as in their faith. My name is Laura Gryfinski, and I am starting my sixth year as our school's First Grade Teacher. I am proud to be a product of St. Francis Borgia having attended Grades K-8 and find myself very fortunate to be working alongside such fine colleagues, some of whom were actually my former teachers! What an amazing opportunity! I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree from Northeastern Illinois University having majored in both Elementary Education and Communication, Media, and Theatre. I had also been involved in our Religious Education program as well as having served as Eucharistic Minister. I am the Moderator of our after-school Drama Club where members through collaborative learning actively participate in dramatic activities which nurture imagination, ingenuity, and a genuine love of the arts. I am also Co-Moderator of SFB's Jr. Beta Club as well as the 8th Grade Play. Recently our First Grade class learned many essential safety skills when they visited Harlem-Irving Plaza's SafetyTown! Through interactive practice and awesome instruction by "First Responders," our students now have a better understanding of the importance of safety with skills they will use every day to keep them safe. I am thankful for the Catholic education I received and know that as a Catholic school teacher I will do my best to nurture the seeds of faith which you, as parents, have sown. I am very proud to be part of this parish and school where SFB pride is everywhere! Sincerely, Ms. Laura Gryfinski Religious Education Department News... Illuminated Path of Remembrance The St. Francis Borgia Bereavement Ministry is sponsoring an Illuminated Path of Remembrance for the Feast of All Souls. A luminaria, a white paper bag lantern with a candle lit inside, and your deceased s name on the front will be placed in the church during the 6:00 p.m. Mass on Thursday, November 2, the Feast of All Souls. If you would like a luminaria to remember your loved ones, please complete the form located on the tables in the church or in the rectory. There is a $7 donation for each luminaria. Please submit this information along with your donation by Tuesday, October 31, to the Rectory or Religious Education Office, attention-ruthanne. Please call Ruthanne at (773) 625-1705 if any questions. Yankee Candle Fundraiser Buy a sweet-smelling gift for birthdays, the fall and Christmas which will add a special glow to the heart and home!! The St. Francis Borgia Religious Education Department is sponsoring a Yankee Candle Fundraiser. The Yankee Candle Company will donate 40% of the sale proceeds to the St. Francis Borgia Religious Education Department. Catalogs and order forms are available at the back of the church, the Religious Education Office, and the rectory. Order forms/payment are due to the Religious Education Department by Saturday, November 4, 2017. Please support the many programs the Religious Education Department offers to the parish such as Sacramental Preparation to the School and Religious Education students, Religion Classes for the parish children who attend our community public schools, and Adult Faith Formation programs such as the Borgia Café and RCIA. Borgia Café-Acts-The Spread of the Kingdom The St. Francis Borgia Religious Education Department will be hosting the Borgia CA.F.E.-Catholic Adult Faith Education series-wednesdays, October 4, 11, 18, 25, & November 8 & 15 at p.m. in the Religious Education Center located in Schoolroom 101. We will continue our study of Acts of the Apostles-The Spread of the Kingdom, by Jeff Cavins from The Great Adventure Bible series. The series explores the Biblical narrative in light of Catholic teaching and the historical, cultural and literary context of the Scriptures to discover God s plan and our place within it. RESPECT LIFE No More Death Dear friends, by seeking holiness and using the gifts God has given us to accomplish his will in our lives, we are contributing mightily to that kingdom we all long for, where there will be no more crying or pain or death. Certainly no abortion. No euthanasia. No assisted suicide. No deep freezing of embryos as though they were merchandise. And no destruction of human life in the name of science. RUMMAGE SALE RESULTS Through the generous donations of many people and with the help of our wonderful volunteers we were able to help hundreds of families receive great values on clothes and household items. The remaining items were sold to the Savers Resale stores where further good will come from them. The proceeds from the sale of $ 5,472 were donated to our parish. Thank you to all the people involved in any way with the rummage sale. We would not have been able to do all this good without you. We will be sponsoring another Rummage Sale in the spring.
