St. Rosalie 2 Registration for St. Rosalie Religious Education 2013-2014school year is currently in progress. Families that are not currently registered and are interested in having their children attend Religious Education classes can complete a registration form. For your convenience, registration forms are available in the Parish Office and in the church foyer. This program is open to all baptized children in grades 1 St through 8 th. Classes will start after Labor Day. HELP YOUR SCHOOL & FEED YOUR FAMILY BAPTISMS: Our Parish celebrates Baptisms on the first Sunday Of the month. Parents are asked to Participate in the preparation meeting before the date is scheduled. Please call the rectory for an appointment. Required Documents: Birth certificate of the child, proof of catholic parish membership (for at least 6 months) for both parents as well as sponsors. WEDDINGS: The Archdiocese of Chicago requires arrangements for weddings be made 6 months in advanced. Please call the office for an appointment. Required Documents: Baptismal certificates for the engaged, proof of membership to a catholic parish ( for at least 6 months) for both bride and groom, proof of completion of pre-cana Program. SACRAMENT OF THE SICK Please call the office to make arrangements. Our priest visits the sick on the first Friday of the month or as needed. Novena to our Lady of Czestochowa every Saturday after morning mass According to legend the icon was painted by St. Luke and brought from Jerusalem to Constantinople before going to Ruthenia. Research, however, suggests that the icon is more probably of ninth century Greek or Italian origin with thirteenth century overpaintings and is painted with some sort of colours and pigments on a wooden base. It is in the Byzantine tradition after the style of icons attributed to St. Luke and has since been richly ornamented in gold and jewels of great value. The icon which is generally covered with these ornaments is darkened by smoke on the exposed parts of the face and hands and often receives the title of the Black Madonna. GIVEN MUCH Much will be required of the person entrusted with much (Luke 12:48). Whew! At least the Lord hasn t entrusted me with much! Thank goodness that the work of the reign of God on earth has been entrusted to somebody else. This must be the good news of today s Gospel, right? Wrong! In the mentality that has come to be known as keeping up with the Joneses we can gear ourselves toward a comparison with those who have more or who have been given more, even by God. Unfortunately, nowhere does Jesus say: Not much will be expected of those who have been given only a little bit. Each of us, in our own way, has been given something, some gift or treasure that we can put toward the work of the reign of God. This is the vocation of Christian discipleship. Perhaps others seem to have been given more; evaluating this is not the disciple s concern. The concern of each of us in the vocation for which we have been chosen is to take what we have been given, and consecrate it for the continued inbreaking of God s kingdom of justice, joy, peace, and beauty.
