Stewardship Note: What profit would there be for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life? St. Francis of Assisi once said, Remember, you are what you are in the eyes of God and nothing else. We often forget this stewardship wisdom when we spend all of our time, talent and treasure to gain more of the world s riches. We need to set our priorities based on God s values and not the values of the material world. TWENTY SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME September 3, 2017 Be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and pleasing and perfect. Romans 12:2 FOLLOWING CHRIST If you ve ever had an unpleasant but somewhat amusing practical joke played on you, then you have some understanding of how Jeremiah feels today when he tells God good one you duped me. We can almost see him shaking his head with a bit of a rueful smile, but an angry undertone in his voice. In similar fashion, Peter thinks Jesus is duping him when Jesus starts to explain that being Messiah means suffering and dying, and being a follower of the Messiah means taking up a cross and doing the same. Jeremiah tries to deny God s will for him by trying to shut up; Peter who has just been made the foundation of the church out and out denies the teaching of Jesus, for which he is named Satan today. Fortunately for us, Jeremiah comes to realize that to have the word of God placed in your heart means that it will be futile to try and keep silent, even if it means scorn and derision from those around you. Luckily Peter ultimately returned to the faith he professed in last week s Gospel, and came to understand our need as baptized followers of Christ to follow in his way, even when it means following him to our very death. This week s second collection is for Higher Utility and Energy Costs. Next weekend s second collection is designated for Parish Obligations to the Diocese. NOVENA TO THE DIVINE MERCY Today, Sunday, September 3rd at 3:00pm we will set aside an hour for special devotions to the Divine Mercy. We ask parishioners and friends to please make every effort to join us in the singing of the Chaplet followed by Benediction. MONDAY/LABOR DAY - is a United States federal holiday observed on the first Monday in September and celebrated since 1882, Traditionally this day signifies the end of summer when Americans enjoy picnics, barbecues, parades, etc. In our work we find peace, fulfillment and holiness if it is done with the love for God and our families. No matter what our task in life is, when we do it with the spirit of joy and honesty we bring dignity to our labor. St. Joseph School and the rectory will be closed on Sept. 4th. We wish everyone a pleasant and safe Labor Day! Mark your calendar - Sunday, Sept. 10th Family Mass at 9:30am followed by our picnic!

We request that you be charitable to balance your requests in order to give equal consideration to all parishioners for the most popular Masses. Our Parish Council suggests ($15) for weekday mass and ($20) for weekend and Holyday Masses or an offering privately arranged between you and the priest. Rectory hours are 9:00am noon and 1:00-4:00pm on Mon. Tues. Wed., and Fri. (closed on Thurs.). Telephone requests will be taken only from those who are handicapped and unable to come to the rectory. The best gift offered for family members on special occasions is to offer the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. The Eucharistic sacrifice is the most effective prayer and therefore should be requested for the deceased and living alike. Potrzebni nauczyciele Potrzebujemy dwoje nauczycieli do nauki religii w klasach 4 i 5, którzy będą uczyć w czasie zajęć katechetycznych w poniedziałki od 17:30 do 18:30.
