Are you thinking about becoming a Catholic? Would you like to know more about the Catholic Faith? Are you marrying a Catholic person and would like to know about the Catholic Faith? Do you know a family member or friend who is thinking about becoming a Catholic and has questions about our faith? Inquiry sessions (Rite of Christian Initiation) will begin in the fall for people who are thinking about becoming Catholics. Please contact Father Tadeusz or Father Bogdan at 708.867.8817 or Pauline Wehr at 708.363.3068 for more information. Catholics from across the Archdiocese can choose from among six locations in Chicago and the suburbs to hear a presentation by Francis Cardinal George on religious freedom. The intent of these evenings is to engage Catholics across the Archdiocese in discussions about the importance of religious freedom with respect to the new mandates and regulations surrounding the health care laws. Each of Cardinal George s presentations will include ample opportunity for feedback and questions. Monday, August 27, 7 pm St. Thomas of Villanova Parish 1201 E. The forces of hunger and thirst are among the most compelling drives we know in our bodily quest to stay alive and, even in this day of "mealinashake" we cannot sustain our bodies without the visceral actions of engaging food and drink in biting, chewing or at the very least swallowing. When Jesus' audience today heard him say one had to eat his flesh and drink his blood, they did so with a very literal understanding of eating and drinking, which naturally led them to some gruesome images. Indeed, this passage has been problematic for many who are not Christian, even for some Christians who do not bring the deep experience of Christ present in the elements of bread and wine. Jesus compels his listeners, and especially his followers, to a deeper understanding of how he is truly speaking of the very real and intimate mystical union that they are called to have with him in the elements of the Eucharistic Meal.
