Many of you will recall the great visit we had this past October of the image of Our Lady of Czestochowa, in defense of human life. This visit was meant to remind us of the sanctity of all human life from its very beginning until its very end. I doubt if any of us have trouble believing that Mary carried Jesus within her from the moment of conception (as opposed to her burdened with a foreign embryo which was not considered a human being until Christmas Day of the moment of Christ s birth.) It was the act of love between a loving God and his handmaiden Mary, our human representative, that began the road to our salvation. The placement of the fest of the Annunciation is obviously based on the natural course of things preceding a birth. That it falls smack dab in the middle of Lent, often within the time of Holy Week, can remind us of the cycle of life which Jesus shared with all of us. He Who was conceived in the tabernacle of Mary was soon to be buried in the tabernacle hewn from the stone of the earth to complete the sacrifice necessary to win the battle against the forces of darkness. He was conceived in reverent silence and He was buried in reverent silence, both events witnessed and enabled by the singular vessel of devotion, the Mother of God. Hail, O Star who manifest the Sun, Hail, O Womb of the divine Incarnation! Hail, O you through whom creation is renewed; Hail, O you through whom the creator becomes a babe! Hail, O Tabernacle of God the Word; Hail, Holy One, more holy than the saints! Hail, O Tender of mankind s loving Tender, Hail, O Gardener of the Gardener of Life! Hail, O Ark that the Spirit has gilded, Hail, inexhaustible Treasure of Life! Hail, O Restoration of the fallen Adam, Hail, O redemption of the tears of Eve! Hail, O Bride and Maiden ever pure! Let us walk through the rest of this Lent with Mary s eyes and heart..and pray we can share her deep faith, a faith constantly challenged by her immediate world, unfriendly synagogue members, rabbis often too busy to tend to her needs, and a busy life...all very real (or imagined) problems in her world as in ours. Abandonment, despair, hatred, jealousy and giving up are the dreams of Satan... living in humility, trusting in God, that is the way of Mary. David Krakowski (not anonymous)
PASTORAL COUNCIL NOMINATIONS The annual election for new Parish Pastoral Council members will take place the weekend of May 10-1, 2014. Evening meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month from September through June. Nomination forms are available through April 7th at the church entrances. Completed forms may be placed in the collection basket or turned in to one of the priests or council members. If you have any questions, please call the rectory at 216-341-9091. W razie pytań, prosimy dzwonić do biura parafialnego 216-341-9091. GOOD FRIDAY COLLECTION FOR THE HOLY LAND If you are a registered parishioner here at St. Stanislaus you would have received your packet of envelopes for contributions during the month of April. Among those envelopes you will notice one designated as HOLY LAND and dated April 18, 2014. Throughout the Catholic world all churches designate their collected funds to be subsequently sent to the Holy Land to help maintain and save the many Catholic churches and holy sites which, otherwise, have meager sources of revenue. The churches and shrines are under the watch of the Franciscan Order, a custom dating back centuries when the area was under the rule of the Ottoman Empire. This is OUR heritage, a responsibility which we share as Catholics. These churches are suffering and need our help. Jesus washing the feet of His apostles.. The servant of the servants against impossible odds.. Perhaps you can be a servant and take up a new cross and challenge of being a member of the Parish Pastoral Council? WE NEED YOU TO BE THE HANDS, EYES AND HEART OF JESUS! Choose the culture of life, not that of death. The Parish Pastoral Council serves as the eyes and ears of the parishioners. Not everyone has the luxury of time or the social ability to communicate directly with the parish staff. The Council facilitates this action, bringing concerns and/or questions of the congregation to the attention of the pastoral staff. As the Parish Council does this important work, we must remember our own responsibilities to be vigilant of negative forces, pride, self aggrandizement, envy and the like, placing the good of others before our individual agendas. The importance of praying for our priests and staff cannot be underestimated. The ground in a parish is always fertile for weeds as much as it is for nutritional growth. None of us are both strong and saints but all of us are both weak and sinners. We all require the assistance of each other to further the culture of life. When we say Jesus, I trust in You we must try our hardest to mean it not always an easy thing when we are weighed down with doubt. Let us pray for each other...not prey on each other, and glorify God together in humble service. Evangelizing must begin at home. THE RETURN OF MR. ZAWADZKI Polish-Canadian author Edward Zawadski will be in town this coming April 6th to discuss his latest project. He will be here throughout the weekend to speak with interested parties.
What did January have to offer for the St. Stanislaus Alumni & Friends? Looking forward to a wonderful treat from 18 Chili Chefs...blizzard snow storm...chili cook off postponed because of blizzard! Yes, Saturday, January 25th was not a day that we wanted our dear friends, family and chili chefs to travel. So early Friday all the chefs were contacted and most of them had not begun preparing their dish, and they all thought we were "nuts" for postponing the Chili Fest. The sun was shining, the roads were clear but the projected forecast was for some snow and snow it did. Starting Friday evening and throughout the day Saturday the roads were treacherous. Saturday evening we were glad everyone was home safe. Some of the chefs may even have enjoyed a bit of their chili. Everyone was wondering when and how we would reschedule the Chili Cook Off. Now the new date and time has been set for the JOINT VENTURE and it is...get your pens ready to mark your calendars... Saturday, April 26, 2014 will be a joint venture! Yes, there will be Chili and Polkas and Pussy Willows... What more could we ask for at the end of Lent? NO SNOW! W trzecią niedzielę świętego czasu Wielkiego Postu musimy sobie przypomnieć zaproszenie Boga jakże delikatne to więc zaproszenie, bo przecież Jezus mówi o swoim pragnieniu, aby uświadomić nam nasze pragnienie ten często podeschnięty strumyczek naszego zaangażowania w spotkanie z Nim.
