Background The Warsa w U niversity of Life Sci en ces (WULS) is the larges t (18 Facu lties, 1,25 2 researc hers, 24,74 3 stude nts), oldest and highest-rated agr icultura l acade mi c institution in Poland, the for th oldes t in Eur ope. The Fac ulty of Horti cu ltu re and Landscape Architecture (FH& LA ) is: o among the larges t Facu lties of the WULS (12 De partments, 117 researc hers, 1,563 s tude nts), o among the highest ra ted Facu lties of the WULS - in Sep. 2010 awarded pres tigious 1 st ca tegory in the national ranking o f researc h institutions, o the most ac tive in researc h, with the highest number of curre ntly active researc h gra nts and contrac ts (in 2009 only - 7 international gra nts, 75 national gra nts and researc h contrac ts). The challe nge the Ma nage ment and Staff of the FH&LA Facu lty follow developments per tinent to Pl an t Hea lth in Europe, and are cognisant o f the new challenges posed by rece nt initiatives, suc h as: o Direc tive 2009/128/EC of the Eur opean Par liament and o f the Council, in par ticular the Ar ticle 14 concer ning the Integra ted Pes t Ma nage ment (IPM), o Re view of the Comm on Plant Hea lth Reg im e (20 09-2010) o The confere nce o n "M oder nising the Comm on Plant Hea lth Reg im e in view of globalisation and climate change" (Feb. 2010 ), o Plant Hea lth rec omm endations o f the Eur opea n Food Sa fety A uthority, o FA O Gu idance on Pes t and Pes ticide Ma nage ment Policy De velopment (Ju ne 2010) w ith expanded role given to promot ion of IPM. The resp on se - to enh ance FH& LA capac ity to address these new challenges, its RTD priorities and o rga nisation were re-focused, and a researc h-age ndadriven Wa rsaw Pl ant Health Cluste r (W PHC) was established, gr oup ing researc h gr oups from all five Depar tments dea ling with the plant health issues. The WPHC consists of 52 resea rche rs (52 e xper ienced and 10 junior) plus 40 PhD stude nts. The P roject - based o n SWOT analysis a nd the resu lting Action Plan, the proposed Wa rsaw Pl an t Hea lth Initiativ e pr oject was developed to empower the WPHC to resp ond to the Eur ope 2020 Strategy, in par ticular its Innovation Union and the Youth on the Move initiatives, and to enhance WPHC collaborative capac ity and visibili ty within the ERA and EHEA.

Etap I: Działania wstępne Decyzja uczestnictwa, tworzenie koncepcji (2,5 miesiąca) (głównie inicjator projektu - Project Leader) Studiowanie dokumentacji REGPOT i rozpoznanie zasad konkursu, tworzenie wstępnej koncepcji projektu, analiza atutów i szans, przygotowanie planu pracy nad projektem 30.07.2010 - w internecie ukazala sie dokumentacja edycji konkursu 2010 23.09.2010 - dyskusja z Dziekanem Wydzialu oraz szefami wiodących Katedr (entomologia, genetyka), decyzja o przystąpieniu do konkursu 06.10.2010 - ustalenie składu jednostek uczestniczących oraz desygnowanie Project Leadera oraz WP Leaders) 14.10.2010 - Przygotowanie - wstępnej koncepcji projektu i jego struktury - szacunkowej kalkulacji średnich kosztów dla głównych rodzajów działań (workshop, conference participation, staff exchange visit etc.) - zadań oraz szczegółowych instrukcji dla WP Leaders
