You do not know when the time will come. Mark 13:33

Page Two November 30, 2008 Spiritual Reflection Be watchful! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come. The past year has been a difficult one. We continue to feel the effects of terrorism. Many of our young men and women are in harm s way, stationed in Iraq, Afghanistan and other places around the world. We have been more watchful and vigilant than ever. We find ourselves feeling less than safe in situations that didn't used to concern us at all. As we begin this new Church year, we do so after acclaiming Christ as our King. We can be comforted in knowing that we are not alone in our difficulties. In this weekend s first reading, we hear, Why do you let us wander, O LORD, from your ways, and harden our hearts so that we fear you not? And, Oh that you would rend the heavens and come down! We find it difficult to understand how people can have such little concern for life. As we ponder the hardness of heart of others we need to acknowledge the fact that we too sometimes wander from the Lord s ways and allow other things to become King of our hearts. The Church provides this holy Season that we might get ready. Many of us will spend countless hours buying and wrapping gifts, decorating our homes, entertaining and attending Christmas parties. The time we spend getting ready for the coming of Jesus might pale in comparison. We can use this time though, to honestly get ready for the Lord s coming both at Christmas and at the end of time. We might make some special opportunities to come together in family prayer this Season. We might light an Advent Wreath at home and pray as a family as we light the candle each week and when we gather to eat and even before bedtime. We can say the prayer of blessing when we bring out our Nativity set and as we decorate the Christmas tree. We might consider the poor, the sick and the elderly this Season and decide what we might do to make life better for them. We might consider something more than cookies, even something we could do all year long. Advent days are short. Darkness comes so soon. Christ is the light that comes to illumine the darkness. May we spend some of the time of darkness in prayer. We can pray the Rosary or the Divine Mercy Chaplet. We can get out our prayer books, individually and as a family. We can spend some time in adoration before the Blessed Sacrament. We can acknowledge the Lord s kingship over our lives and over our families. And when the Lord comes, we ll be ready. Would that you might meet us doing right, that we were mindful of you in our ways! Have a good week! W Adwencie my, ludzie wierzący czekamy na Chrystusa. Czuwać - to znaczy przede wszystkim mieć szeroko otwarte oczy. To znaczy widzieć więcej, niż widzimy codziennie. Czuwać to znaczy jeszcze uwrażliwić swoje sumienie. -ks. May our good Lord bless you all! GOD HAS A DIFFERENT PLAN We begin the season of Advent with a heartfelt call for our own repentance. We remember God s faithful love for us, and call upon God to help us to turn back. For behold, you are angry, and we are sinful (Isaiah 64:4). In the first reading and in the psalm, we recall God s promises and lament our unfaithfulness and our guilt. We call upon God s might and power in order to save us. With Isaiah, we ask God to rend the heavens and come down, / with the mountains quaking before you (Isaiah 63:19). Yes, God is faithful to us, because we are the work of God s hands. God is the potter, we are the clay. And yet, our concept of how God will come to save us is rooted in our own expectations of a warrior God who crushes mountains and thunders into our lives with great noise and glory. But God has a different plan: the Incarnation. Copyright, J. S. Paluch Co. On behalf of St. Priscilla Parish Community, I would like to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to MRS. MARIA KARBARZ, who sewed 14 new purificators (cleansing towels for the chalice) for the church and generously donated them to St. Priscilla. May God Bless her and her family for their generosity!
