Page Two April 6, 2008 Spiritual Reflection When we enter a room, we look around to see who is there. Some people we will naturally walk over and speak with, usually people with whom we feel comfortable. Others we might avoid, because of their negativity, self-pity or unpleasant experiences we may have had with them. When others enter a room, they do the same. How do people feel when we walk into the room? We have the choice of how to welcome Jesus into our lives as well. Some people wish he would go away, others that he would stay. Some see him as a problem, a cross, someone who takes the fun and joy out of life. Others see him as the way, the truth and the life. As Peter says in this week s first reading, some people disowned Jesus. They chose a murderer instead. Then they killed Jesus, the Author of life. As we learn more about Jesus, we learn more about ourselves as well. He can be the author of our lives, or we can undertake that job ourselves. When we try to do it ourselves, things don t usually turn out very well. As Peter says in our first reading, I know that you acted out of ignorance. In the second reading, John says, we lie we sin. As Jesus tells his disciples in the Gospel,...the Messiah must suffer and rise from the dead on the third day. Our sufferings, our sinfulness and ignorance can be very positive. They can remind us that we need God. When we admit our need for God, we are much more apt to welcome God into our lives and listen to what He has to say! As Jesus disciples walked the road to Emmaus, we too can continue on our journey, sometimes in despair and hopelessness. We can be quite unaware of God s presence on our journey, simply because we don t look for it. We can be like Jesus disciples too, and lock ourselves into a room out of fear. If we perk up our ears just a little though, we ll hear those words Jesus disciples heard, Peace to you. We too can feel safe. Our minds can be opened to greater understanding. We can come to see that Jesus is willing to walk with us on our journey, and show us ways of happiness and fulfillment we would never find if we followed our own way. As we bask in the glory of Easter, our understanding needs to broaden, as did the understanding of Jesus early disciples. We need to become more willing to welcome Jesus presence in our lives. As we develop greater trust, we need to seek God s will and pray for the courage to carry it out. As John says in our second reading, The one who claims, I have known him, without keeping His commandments is a liar. But whoever keeps his word truly has the love of God made perfect in him. And as Peter tells the people in our first reading, Reform your lives! Turn to God, that your sins may be wiped away! Reflection MMVIII Rev. Patrick A. Umberger, www.frpat.com PANIE ZOSTAŃ Z NAMI Jezus często lubił przebywać w gościnie. Bywał częstym gościem w domu Łazarza, Marii i Marty. Każdy jednak pobyt w gościnie wykorzystywał, by mówiąc dzisiejszym językiem aby wygłosić uczestnikom przyjęcia swoją katechezę. Tak też zrobił w domu dwóch uczniów z Emaus. Cały Jego pobyt w domu można sprowadzić do dwóch punktów: 1. Najpierw wyjaśniał im rolę i potrzebę Jego męki, śmierci i zmartwychwstanie. 2. - Ks. Idzi -
