The U.S. Bishops teach us that to follow Christ is never an easy task. The life of steward is, in many ways, counter-cultural to the message of modern society. We live in a society that celebrates materialism and individualism. Christ s way is one of self-sacrifice designed to serve God and others. TWELFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME June 23, 2013 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free person, there is not male and female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. - Galatians 3:28 A PERSONAL RESPONSE OF FAITH Today s Gospel starts with a conversation with which Jesus begins his journey to Jerusalem and the cross. As his followers, we strive to march with him, even to the cross. Paul s Letter to the Galatians tells us that we who have been baptized have clothed ourselves with Christ. Being one with Christ, we must no longer discriminate according to nationality or race, according to social status, according to gender. The prophet Zechariah, centuries before anyone heard of Jesus, spoke of how the people find God s message uncomfortable, and so turn against the messengers. Later, though, the people awaken to the realization of what they have always welcomed back by God, who always gives us grace to do the right thing, however difficult it may be. This second collection this weekend is for Catholic Communications Campaign. Next week s second collection is designated for Peter s Pence Collection. SACRED HEART SOCIETY We welcome the members of the Sacred Heart Society on Sunday at 8:15am for the annual Communion Mass followed by a Coffee Hour in the school conference room. The Basilica s Sacred Heart Society was established in The purpose of this organization is to promote devotion to Jesus in the mystery of His Sacred Heart among the faithful in our area. Its special concern is spiritual assistance to the families of St. Joseph Parish. The Sacred Heart Society offers the opportunity to pray and worship together as an organization on various liturgical festivities of the year. FESTIVAL MEETING A post festival meeting will be held in the rectory on Monday, June 24th at 6:30pm. PARISH COUNCIL Parish Council members will meet on Tuesday, June 25th at 6:30 in the school conference room.

3 Page 3 FESTIVAL RECAP The 40th Annual St. Joseph Festival is now history. We are grateful to God for three days of beautiful weather through the intercession of St. Joseph. The weekend festivities attracted many people from different towns and states. For the first time, on Saturday we featured many children s activities including, talent show, supervised by faculty members, musical performances by the Polish and English choirs, under the direction of Robert Wojcik, folk dances by the Polish-American Piast group, etc. These presentations attracted a large number of parents, grandparents and relatives. We are grateful to parents, parishioners and especially numerous young people who rose to the occasion in the spirit of cooperation during the festival weekend. We gratefully acknowledge the dedication of many including general chairperson, Jen Herbst, Chef Artie Hunt who was in charge of the kitchen crew, with the assistance of Pam Trites, our treasurers, Tom and Connie McNally, Heidi Iozzo and the Home School Association and many, many numerous volunteers who spent their weekend for the benefit of our school children. We also acknowledge all the chairpersons of various booths who worked tirelessly to make this a successful event. Congratulations to all for a job well done! May God bless each and everyone of you! SOLEMNITY OF SS PETER AND PAUL, APOSTLES On Saturday, June 29, we will observe the Solemnity of the martyrdom of SS Peter and Paul. The celebration is of ancient origin and is one of the higher ranking holy days during the ecclesiastical year, but is not a holy day of obligation. On this day at the Vatican, newly appointed archbishops receive the primary symbol of their office, called pallium, from the Pope. Day of Indulgence - On this day, St. Joseph Basilica has the privilege to grant indulgences to the faithful. A plenary indulgence may be obtained under the usual conditions, which means reception of Communion, confession if needed, a visit to St. Joseph Basilica and prayer in the intention of the Holy Father. A plenary indulgence may be obtained only once a day and a partial indulgence as many times as the Basilica is visited and a prayer is said in the intention of the Holy Father. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS The St. Joseph Parish #12980 Council of Knights of Columbus will host the John Cardinal Wright Assembly dinner/ meeting on Thursday, June 27th. Dinner will be served in the school cafeteria at 6:00pm followed by the meeting in the school conference room. Cost of the dinner for members is $10. Please call Dennis at (508) to confirm your attendance. PETER S PENCE COLLECTION Charity bears all thing, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. (1 Cor 13:7) There are many places around the globe where the Church struggles to be a visible sign of charity, but thankfully, the Holy Father is the pilgrim of charity for Catholics everywhere. In poor dioceses where many are dependent on the Church for social and pastoral support; in regions where Catholics are persecuted for their faith; and in nations overloaded with refugees and victims of war and natural disaster, the works done by the Holy Father help the Church extend charity to those most in need. The Peter s Pence Collection gives each of us the opportunity to be a pilgrim of charity around the world. Our gifts to this annual Collection help the Holy Father strengthen dioceses, religious orders and struggling communities of faith. Please be generous next week to help the Holy Father and continue to be a pilgrim of charity throughout the world. SCHOOL NEWS Kindergarten Graduation was held on June 12th at the PAV. Earlier in the day the graduates were treated by Msgr. Czarnecki to an ice cream party at the rectory. In the evening they all shared good food and recalled fond memories of this past school year. With the assistance of their teachers the students entertained their guests with a stage presentation. The parents and friends as well as the faculty were pleased with the progress of these Kindergarteners We wish all the graduates a healthy and joyful vacation time and are looking forward to see them as First Graders in August. 4 Page 4 Hospitality Committee is making plans for some great social events. Beginning in September, they will be hosting a Coffee Social on the 3rd Sunday of every month for all parishioners and friends and we hope you will attend before or after Mass. Plans are also underway for a Catholic Singles night to begin in August, occurring on the 2nd Friday of every month. Each month will have a different theme and a movie night is planned in August. Their goal is to bring parishioners of all ages together to enjoy each other s company, share experiences, relax and enjoy mutual company. In addition to social events, the group is hard at work developing a Basilica brochure, as well as coordinating efforts to reach out to our parishioners during difficult times in their lives. KRONIKA PARAFIALNA Dwiunasta niedziela zwykła 23 czerwca 2013 "Nie ma już Żyda ani poganina, nie ma już niewolnika ani człowieka wolnego, nie ma już mężczyzny ani kobiety, wszyscy bowiem jesteście kimś jednym w Chrystusie Jezusie." (Ga 3, 28) Pytając: A wy za kogo Mnie uważacie?, Jezus nie oczekuje dziś od nas formułek, ale refleksji, na ile rzeczywiście On jest dla nas ważny. Czy moja więź z Nim jest na tyle mocna, że potrafię nad Nim zapłakać jak nad własnym dzieckiem, zatęsknić za Nim całym sobą? Czy ze względu na Niego potrafię pozbyć się uprzedzeń wobec drugiego człowieka, wierząc, że wszyscy jesteśmy braćmi i siostrami? Eucharystia, którą rozpoczynamy, daje nam kolejną szansę przejścia od teorii do doświadczenia, do wiary, do gotowości zaparcia się siebie. SACRED HEART SOCIETY Zapraszamy wszystkich członków Sacred Heart Society na coroczna Mszę św. wspólnotową o godz. 8:15 oraz na wspólny począstunek tuż po liturgii w Sali Konferencyjnej w szkole. Powodem powołanie do istnienia tego stowarzyszenia było troska promowanie nabożeństwa do Jezusa w misterium Jego Najświętszego Serca pośród wiernych w naszym regionie. UROCZYSTOŚĆ PIOTRA I PAWŁA W sobotę 29 czerwca będziemy obchodzili Uroczystość apostołów Piotra i Pawła. Jest to bardzo zakorzenione w historii święto, które jest zaliczane do jednego spośród najważniejszych w ciągu roku liturgicznego. Nie mniej jednak nie jest to święto obowiązkowe. W tym dniu nowo mianowani biskupi otrzymują od papieża insygnia swojej władzy. Bazylika św. Józefa na w tym uroczystym dniu przywilej odpustu, który można uzyskać pod następującymi warunkami: Komunia św. (jeśli potrzeba również spowiedź, aby móc przystąpić do Komunii), nawiedzenie Bazyliki św. Józefa oraz modlitwa w intencji Ojca Świętego. Odpust zupełny można uzyskać tylko raz, natomiast odpust cząstkowy za każdym razem, kiedy odwiedza się Bazylikę w tego dnia. 5 Page 5 ZBIÓRKA NA PETER'S PENCE "Miłość wszystko znosi, wszystkiemu wierzy, we wszystkim pokłada nadzieję, wszystko przetrzyma." (1Kor 13, 7) Istnieje wiele miejsc na całym świecie, gdzie Kościół zmaga się z różnorodnymi problemami. Zbiórka Peter's Pence jest coroczną ogólnoświatową akcją, której celem jest wsparcie Ojca świętego w pomocy ofiarom katastrof naturalnych, wojen i prześladowań. Papież korzysta również z tych ofiar we wspieraniu znajdujących się w potrzebie wspólnot wiary. Łączymy się zatem ze wszystkimi katolikami na całym świecie w solidarnym geście wsparcie wspierania dzieł Ojca świętego. Zbiórka odbędzie się w weekend 29 i 30 czerwca. Serdecznie dziękujemy za wszystkie ofiary. FESTIWAL W ubiegłaą niedzielę zakończyliśmy nasz 40 Festiwal Parafialny. Dziękujem Bogu za wspaniałą pogodę. Festiwal to ogromne, społeczne przedsięwzięcie, wymagające ogromnego nakładu pracy wielkiej ilości ludzi dobrej woli. Podziękowania kierujemy zatem do wszystkich parafian, rodziców dzieci z naszej szkoły oraz przyjaciół za wytężoną pracę i ogromną pomoc przed i w trakcie, oraz szczególnie tym, którzy pomagali przy pracach porządkowych po Festiwalu. Specjalną wdzięczność kierujemy do członków komitetu festiwalowego: przewodniczącej Jen Herbst, "szefa kuchni" Artie Hunt, Tom i Connie McNally oraz wszystkim zaangażowanym w poszczególnych butikach. Gołąbki, kapusta i pierogi, które pozostały po festiwalu są dostępne w sprzedaży po każdej Mszy w sobotę i w niedzielę (do wyczerpania zapasów). Anny kontynuuje nabór nowych członków, których uroczyste przyjęcie odbędzie się niedzielę 28 lipca na Mszy św. o godz. 8:15. Wszystkich zainteresowanych prosimy o kontakt z przewodniczącą Stowarzyszenia, Gen Larivier: NOWENNA DO ŚW. JÓZEFA Na następną Nowennę do św. Józefa zapraszamy w środę 26 czerwca. Do niesienia figury św. Józefa w procesji na rozpoczęcie i zakończenie Mszy św. zapraszamy członków Holy Rosary Sodality. Do udziału zapraszamy też wszystkich parafian. Intencje, w których będziemy się modlili prosimy zapisywać na karteczkach znajdujących się przy figurce św. Józefa w kaplicy Matki Bożej (bardzo prosimy pisanie drukowanymi literami). RELIGIA Przypominamy o zapisywaniu dzieci na katechizację na przyszły rok szkolny. Opłata wynosi $30 za jedno dziecko oraz $50 za dwoje lub więcej dzieci. Bardzo prosimy o dokonanie zapisu przed zakończeniem czerwca. Po upływie tego terminu będzie pobierana dodatkowa opłata w wysokości $5. Formularze zapisowe są dostępne przy wejściach do Bazyliki. Te same formularze i warunki obowiązują przy zapisie do Bierzmowania. KULT ŚWIĘTYCH W KOŚCIELE (Beatyfikacja i Kanonizacja) Kanonizacja to uroczyste ogłoszenie kogoś świętym. Poprzedza ją zwykle beatyfikacja - ogłoszenie kogoś błogosławionym. Oba te wydarzenia poprzedza zawsze proces kanoniczny (zwany odpowiednio kanonizacyjnym lub beatyfikacyjnym). Może się on rozpocząć najwcześniej 5 lat po śmierci danej osoby (zdarzają się wyjątki, np. w przypadku Matki Teresy z Kalkuty czy Jana Pawła II). Proces odbywa się pod nadzorem postulatora - osoby czy wspólnoty (np. zakonu). Postulator powinien najpierw ustalić, czy dana osoba cieszy się opinią świętości, tzn. czy ludzie widzą w niej świętego, czy zginęła śmiercią męczeńską lub praktykowała w swoim życiu w sposób ponadprzeciętny cnoty. Nowy święty ma być wzorem do naśladowania. Postulator bada też, czy Bóg udziela szczególnych łask za wstawiennictwem kandydata na ołtarze. Po spełnieniu tych warunków może rozpocząć się dochodzenie diecezjalne. Postulator kieruje prośbę o wszczęcie postępowania do ordynariusza diecezji, w której zmarł kandydat. Przedstawia przy tym jego życiorys i najważniejsze informacje o jego działalności. Sporządza także listę świadków, którzy będą zeznawać w procesie. Od momentu rozpoczęcia postępowania diecezjalnego kandydatowi przysługuje tytuł sługi Bożego. Teraz analizie są poddawane jego pisma i wszelkie dotyczące go dokumenty (np. prace naukowe, artykuły, wydane książki, listy). Przesłuchuje się też świadków. Po zakończeniu postępowania w diecezji (które może trwać nawet kilkadziesiąt lat), dokumenty trafiają do watykańskiej Kongregacji Spraw Kanonizacyjnych. Kongregacja wydaje zezwolenie na rozpoczęcie procesu kanonizacyjnego, nadzoruje jego przebieg i zatwierdza postulatora. Określa warunki, jakie muszą zostać spełnione w czasie procesu. Z przesłanych do Kongregacji materiałów sporządzane jest tzw. Positio - obszerne opracowanie o życiu i cnotach lub męczeństwie sługi Bożego. Pisemną relację przekazuje się także Ojcu Świętemu. To on wydaje dekret o heroiczności cnót lub o męczeństwie. To otwiera już ostatni etap procesu. Do beatyfikacji wymagane jest teraz stwierdzenie przynajmniej jednego cudu dokonanego za przyczyną sługi Bożego. Najczęściej mamy do czynienia z uzdrowieniami lub nawróceniami. Po dokładnym zbadaniu okoliczności cudu wydaje się potwierdzający go dekret. Następuje uroczysta beatyfikacja. Odtąd daną osobę określa się mianem błogosławionej. Można jej oddawać publiczny kult, ale tylko na określonym terenie (w danej diecezji, kraju, wspólnocie zakonnej). Do kanonizacji, czyli uznania kogoś za świętego, konieczny jest kolejny cud, który ma miejsce już po beatyfikacji. Po ogłoszeniu osoby świętą można jej oddawać kult już w całym Kościele, poświęcać jej świątynie, włączać do liturgii. Różnica między błogosławionym a świętym jest jedna: w obszarze, na jakim dozwolony jest kult tej osoby. W przypadku błogosławionego - jego kult może odbywać się tylko na określonym terytorium; w przypadku świętych - taki kult jest nakazany w całym Kościele. Zarówno błogosławieni, jak i święci, cieszą się radością przebywania w gronie zbawionych w chwale nieba.
