4 Page Four December 2, 2018 A Note from Fr. Martin ADVENT Our "earthly life" is filled with "anticipation." We are waiting for someone or something. Waiting also applies to our spiritual condition. It is an extremely accurate attitude during Advent, which is just beginning, and it prepares us for the coming of the Lord in the Nativity of Christmas and for His second coming at the end of time. God's coming to us is a great event. Therefore, just waiting for the Lord implies our readiness to meet with Him, to become more and more perfect for the coming of the Lord, to overcome ourselves and bring order to our lives. According to Jesus' instructions, what do we need to pay attention to? It is about vigilance and the development of prayer, so that we not succumb to the heaviness of heart, a kind of numbness to God's affairs, and stop only to focus on temporal concerns. Beginning the liturgical year in the Church, let us be witnesses of specific gestures of mercy towards our fellow man. Let's work to raise the alertness of our own hearts, prioritize our desires, eliminate bad habits or perverse thoughts, and expel neglect. Let the following things help us in opening our hearts for the graces that God has prepared for us: meditation on biblical texts, Advent spiritual exercises and wellprepared confession. God bless you, Fr. Martin Z notatnika ks. Marcina ADWENT W nasze ziemskie życie jest wpisane oczekiwanie. Ciągle na kogoś albo na coś czekamy. Oczekiwanie dotyczy również naszej kondycji duchowej. Jest to postawa wyjątkowo aktualna w Adwencie, który właśnie się rozpoczyna, przygotowuje on nas na przyjście Pana w łaskach Świąt Jego Narodzenia oraz na Jego powtórne przyjście przy końcu czasów. Przyjście Boga do nas jest wielkim wydarzeniem. Dlatego samo oczekiwanie na Pana zakłada naszą gotowość na spotkanie z Nim, byśmy stawali się coraz doskonalszymi na przyjście Pana, odnieśli zwycięstwo nad sobą oraz uporządkowali swoje życie. Na co według wskazówek Jezusa musimy zwrócić uwagę? Chodzi o czujność i rozwój modlitwy, abyśmy wskutek nieumiarkowania nie ulegli ociężałości serca, swoistej znieczulicy na sprawy Boże, a zatrzymali się jedynie na troskach doczesnych. Rozpoczynając nowy rok kościelny i liturgiczny, bądźmy w szczególny sposób świadkami konkretnych gestów miłosierdzia wobec bliźnich. Podejmijmy pracę nad budzeniem czujności serca, porządkowaniem swoich pragnień, złych przyzwyczajeń czy przewrotnych myśli, nad eliminowaniem zaniedbań. Niech pomocą w otwarciu na kolejne łaski, jakie Bóg przygotował dla nas, staną się: medytacja tekstów biblijnych, adwentowe ćwiczenia duchowe i dobrze przygotowana spowiedź. Szczęść Boże, Ks. This time close to home at a place founded in 1852 to provide care for Chicago s sick and dying. Officer Samuel Jimenez, a married father of three, had been with the Chicago Police Department for just 18 months. He was killed rushing to help. Dr. Tamara O'Neal, a dedicated emergency room physician, known for her charitable activities was killed as she came to work. Dayna Less, 25 year old pharmaceutical resident was just beginning her career and planning her wedding next year. She was killed as she just stepped off the elevator at her work. All senselessly killed as they went about their day. In Chicago, more than 2,600 people have been victims of gun violence this year alone. We need to take a hard look at what is happening in our homes and in our communities. Fear and violence are an unending cycle that must be broken. It is well past time. We must act. Please join me in prayer for Officer Jimenez, Dr. O'Neal, Dayna Less, their families and friends, as well as all for those who work to maintain the peace and heal the sick here and around the world. Let us pray for healing in our city and turn our sorrow and sympathy to action. The United States of America is indeed the land of Mary Immaculate. The United States Bishops, in the year 1846, chose the Blessed Virgin Mary under her title of the Immaculate Conception as the patroness of the United States of America. Here are the words of the bishops decree on May 13, 1846: With enthusiastic acclaim and with unanimous approval and consent, the Fathers [of the Baltimore Council] have chosen the Blessed Virgin Mary, conceived without sin, as the Patroness of the United States of America. The choice of Our Lady in her Immaculate Conception as Patroness of the United States was approved by Pope Pius IX on Feb. 7, Immaculate Conception is a Holy Day of obligation.
