4 Page Four November 11, 2018 A Note from Fr. Martin PUT IN MORE THAN ALL THE OTHER What does it mean to be generous? How much do you have to give of yourself to feel that you are helping, that you are generous? We often calculate more and more in our lives. Unfortunately, we use God s arithmetic less and less in our own lives. And it's not just about money. It's more about love. Let us share our love so that the world of needy people around us becomes more beautiful and more fraternal. Let s share our love so that the common good may not only be defended, but also enriched by our responsible care, inspired by the sensitivity of the heart shaped by the Gospel. So, what is God's arithmetic? On the one hand, large sums, and on the other, two coins. And yet Jesus states: these pennies have more value than the great money of others. Because they gave what they had too much, and she gave what was necessary for her. We would like to think that when we give, we are generous especially if we give a lot but this is far from evangelical madness. Sometimes we have the courage to go a little crazy, compare what we really need to live with what we can possibly sacrifice. And then we could actually give a lot of our time to others, to the Church we will not die because of it. But then the thought appears: "What if I miss it tomorrow?" And the beautiful flame of generosity goes out. This fire can only burn through faith. The widow, which Jesus admires, is so poor that you can fear the worst. My friend, a missionary, when asked why he goes on missions used to say, "Where it will be worse?" The widow was so poor that she was not afraid of madness, nothing could stop her no fears, no expectations, she has a rich of faith and it is faith that inspires her when she sees her last grievances disappear. Do not be afraid to be crazy, for others, for love, for God! God bless you, Fr. Martin WRZUCIŁA NAJWIĘCEJ ZE WSZYSTKICH Z notatnika ks. Marcina Co to znaczy być hojnym? Jak wiele trzeba dać z siebie by poczuć, że się pomaga, że się jest hojnym? Niestety coraz więcej obliczamy i bawimy się w życiową arytmetykę. Niestety nie zawsze nasza arytmetyka jest Bożą arytmetyką. I nie chodzi tu tylko i wyłącznie o pieniądze. Tu raczej chodzi o miłość. Dzielmy się miłością, aby otaczający nas świat ludzi potrzebujących stał się piękniejszy i bardziej braterski, a dobro wspólne mogło być nie tylko bronione, ale także wzbogacane naszą odpowiedzialną troską inspirowaną wrażliwością serca kształtowanego Ewangelią. Jaka jest więc Boża arytmetyka? Z jednej strony wielkie sumy, a z drugiej dwa pieniążki. A jednak Jezus stwierdza: te grosiki mają większą wartość niż wielkie pieniądze innych. Bo tamci dawali z tego co im zbywało, a ona dała to co dla niej niezbędne. Chcielibyśmy sądzić, że kiedy dajemy jesteśmy hojni zwłaszcza jeśli dajemy wiele ale jest to dalekie od ewangelicznego szaleństwa. Czasami mamy odwagę trochę zaszaleć, porównać co jest nam naprawdę konieczne do życia, z tym, co możemy ewentualnie poświęcić. I wtedy moglibyśmy właściwie oddać sporo nawet swój czas dla innych, dla Kościoła nie umrzemy z tego powodu. Ale wtedy pojawia się myśl: A jeśli jutro mi tego zabraknie?. I piękny płomień hojności gaśnie. Ten ogień może płonąć jedynie dzięki wierze. Wdowa, którą podziwia Jezus, jest tak uboga, że można się obawiać najgorszego, mój przyjaciel misjonarz na pytanie czemu jest na misjach zwykł odpowiadać: A gdzie mi będzie gorzej. Owa wdowa była tak biedna, że nie bała się szaleństwa, nic nie mogło jej powstrzymać, żadne obawy, żadne oczekiwania, ona była bogata wiarą i to właśnie wiara budzi w niej radość, kiedy widzi, jak znikają jej ostatnie grosiki. Nie bójmy się być szalonymi, dla człowieka, dla miłości, dla Boga! Szczęść Boże, Ks. Marcin

6 Page Six November 11, 2018 RITE OF ACCEPTANCE INTO THE ORDER OF CATECHUMENS AND RITE OF WELCOMING CANDIDATES, CELEBRATED DURING 8:30AM HOLY MASS, SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 11, 2018 The Rite of Acceptance into the Order of Catechumens is the first public ritual. In the Rite of Acceptance, a change of identity takes place: after the discernment, those previously known as inquirers become cate chumens (preparing to receive all sacraments) or candidates (preparing to receive sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Communion, Confirmation). They are officially welcomed by the Church as disciples, members (not yet full members) of the household of faith. During today s liturgy they are literally marked with the cross of Christ. These men and women are ready to study catholic faith about the sacraments, to participate in the Liturgy of the Word, and to participate in the parish community life. The next step on their journey is Rite of Election, which will take place on the first Sunday of Lent. Please remember the following men and women in your prayers and assist them as they grow in catholic faith. Following the First World War and after spending 123 years divided amongst the three neighboring powers (Germany, Russia, Austria), Poland regained its sovereignty on November 11, The dream of generations of Poles came true: the Polish state was reborn. After the partitions and 123 years of serfdom, Russification and Germanisation, after great uprisings, a free Poland was reinstated on the map of the world. Happy Independence Day for all our Polish neighbors. VETERANS DAY NOVEMBER 11, 2018 HONORING ALL WHO SERVED In the US, Veterans Day annually falls on November 11. This year, we celebrate the 100 th anniversary of the signing of the armistice, which ended World War I. On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, an armistice between Germany and the Allied nations came into effect. On November 11, 1919, Armistice Day was commemorated for the first time. In 1919, President Wilson proclaimed the day should be "filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country s service and with gratitude for the victory." As a result of lobbying by veterans service organizations, Armistice Day was changed to Veterans Day in 1954, signed by President Eisenhower. The holiday became a day to honor all of America s veterans. We salute all the men & women whose sacrifices have made this country safe & great. 9 Thirty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time Page Nine Office of the Archbishop 835 North Rush Street Chicago, IL archchicago.org November 4, 2018 Drogie Siostry i drodzy Bracia w Chrystusie, Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops will have its annual fall meeting in Baltimore November At that meeting, the bishops will address the abuse scandal that has caused incalculable pain and harm for victim survivors of clergy sexual abuse and their families, just as it has gripped and wounded the Church. From November 5 through November 11, we commit ourselves as your bishops to prepare for that meeting with intense prayer and fasting. With these actions, we will plead for God s assistance as we move forward, but we will also seek to unite ourselves to the suffering of those who have been harmed. Our intentions will be first for victimsurvivors and their families, for nothing is more important for the church than the protection of young people and vulnerable adults. We will also pray for you, our parishioners, knowing that this moment weighs heavily on you and your families. We very much need your prayers as we make decisions in November that will strengthen our efforts to safeguard the people entrusted to our care and hold accountable those who fail to do so. In these days, I have come to a deeper awareness of how much we depend on each other to sustain the life of the Church and to fulfill what the Lord Jesus wants of us. Only together can we reclaim our deepest identity as God s family and move forward as a community of hope and healing. With my prayers for you and your loved ones, W dniach listopada w Baltimore odbędzie się doroczne, jesienne spotkanie Konferencji Katolickich Biskupów Stanów Zjednoczonych. Podczas spotkania biskupi będą debatować nad skandalem nadużyć seksualnych, których dopuścili się duchowni. Wywołał on niewyobrażalny ból i wyrządził krzywdę ocalałym ofiarom przemocy seksualnej i ich rodzinom, jak również uraził i zranił Kościół. Jako Wasi biskupi zobowiązaliśmy się, by w dniach od 5 do 11 listopada przygotować się do tego spotkania przez intensywną modlitwę i post. Będziemy w ten sposób błagać o Bożą pomoc i dokonywać postępu. Równocześnie będziemy dążyć do zjednoczenia się w cierpieniu, z tymi którzy zostali skrzywdzeni. W pierwszej kolejności będziemy koncentrować się na ocalałych ofiarach i ich rodzinach, gdyż nie ma nic ważniejszego dla Kościoła niż ochrona młodych ludzi i osób dorosłych szczególnej troski. Będziemy także modlić się za Was, naszych parafian, pamiętając, że ten moment bardzo ciąży na Waszych sercach i na sercach członków Waszych rodzin. Bardzo potrzebujemy Waszych modlitw, szczególnie w listopadzie, kiedy będziemy podejmować decyzje, które wzmocnią nasze wysiłki chroniące ludzi powierzonych naszej opiece i pociągną do odpowiedzialności tych, którzy zawiedli. Ostatnio głębiej uświadomiłem sobie jak bardzo jesteśmy od siebie zależni w podtrzymywaniu życia Kościoła i wypełnianiu tego, czego żąda od nas Pan Jezus. Tylko razem możemy odzyskać naszą najgłębszą tożsamość jako rodzina Boża i iść naprzód jako wspólnota nadziei i uzdrowienia. Z modlitwą za Was i tych, których kochacie, Sincerely yours in Christ,
