Want to follow? Are you interested in shining so brightly that your everyday life shines with the joy of the gospel? This coming Monday night you are invited to make a bonfire in the basement of our school building adding your light to those of other parishioners who want the light of Christ to shine so brightly in the heart of our city that our doors will never be closed, our phones will ring off the hook, our hands will never be emptied from giving. The burning love is our mission, a love which must be open to challenges for growth and life to spring forth. Allow these following words from Pope Francis Apostolic Exhortation Evangelium Gaudium provide some seeds for thought before you join the other burning fires this Monday! As John Paul II once sad to the bishops of Oceania: All renewal in the Church must have mission as its goal if it is not to fall pray to a kind of ecclesiastical introversion. The parish is not an outdated institution; precisely because it possesses great flexibility, it can assume quite different contours depending on the openness and missionary creativity of the pastor and the community. While certainly not the only institution which evangelizes, if it proves capable of self-renewal and constant adaptivity, it continues to be the Church living in the midst of the homes of her sons and daughters. This presumes that it really is in contact with the homes and the lives of its people, and does not become a useless structure out of touch with people or a self-absorbed cluster made up of a chosen few.. The parish is the presence of the Church in a given territory, an environment for hearing God s word, for growth in the Christian life, for dialogue, proclamation, charitable outreach, worship and celebration. In all its activities the parish encourages and trains its members to be evangelizers. It is a community of communities, a sanctuary where the thirsty come to drink in the midst of their journey, and a center of constant missionary outreach. We must admit, though, that the call to review and renew our parishes has not yet sufficed to bring them nearer to the people, to make them environments of living communion and participation, and to make them completely mission-oriented..to make this missionary impulse ever more focused, generous and fruitful, I encourage each particular church to undertake a resolute process of discernment, purification and reform. Will our huge bonfire warm the hearts of the city? Will it provide the life which only Jesus can provide? It s up to you and me. Hope to see you and your fire this Monday! David Krakowski
DON T FORGET YOUR GIFT CARDS...they help fund our parish ministries! And they make people HAPPY! WHAT ARE MASS INTENTIONS? It is an ancient and beautiful tradition in the church to offer Mass for a specific prayer intention. Usually Masses are offered for deceased loved ones, but Mass can also be for the intention of the living as well anniversaries, birthdays, or just to be remembered. Although every Mass is offered on behalf of the entire Church and for the sake of the whole world, the priest at the altar holds this special intention in his heart. Usually this intention is named at Mass and listed in the bulletin. But if there is more than one priest at a given Mass, that priest may also carry an intention in his prayer, even though it may not be listed in the bulletin because we may not be able to plan on when there would be two priests at a Mass. Church practice asks that each weekend, one of the Sunday liturgies be designated for the intention of the parishioners. Church practice asks that in no way to we think of this practice as buying a Mass, or thinking of a given Mass as my Mass. Every Mass is a celebration of the entire community, and the intention is the special focus for the prayer of the priest celebrating it. Last Friday s Notre Dame Choir Concert! Very Uplifting! PEACE GARDEN MEMORIAL BRICKS We recently had another installation of memorial bricks in the parish peace garden, specifically those which were donated last Summer and Fall. If you would like to include the names of your family or friends in this project please contact the rectory. Cost of each memorial brick is $100. Proceeds from these sales support the work of the Garden Club in keeping our parish complex beautiful, colorful, and green! THANK YOU Special thanks goes out to all those who helped retire our Christmas decorations and helped to clean up the church afterwards. Aside from the staff from Downton Abbey (pictured above) we also extend our thanks to the four parishioners (Dan and Cyndi Michelich, Joe Lukachinsky and Bob Molinski) who gave of their time to keep YOUR church a little cleaner. Marie Busch TRANSFIGURATION SCHOLARSHIP Families of Slavic European ethnic heritage, i.e., Polish, Czech, Slovak, Ukrainian and the like may be eligible for the Transfiguration Scholarship for their children attending a Catholic elementary, high school or college in the 2-14-2015 school year. Families must be parishioners of either St. Stanislaus or IHM to qualify and the financial need of the family must be assessed through the Private School Aid Service application available from the Catholic School principal or pastor. The student needn t be a top scholar, but must be in good academic standing. Those interested in applying may find the necessary paperwork at the rectory office. Deadline for submitting applications is March 1st, 2014. As a reminder, families already receiving State tuition vouchers are not eligible for this program. Dziecko Boże solą ziemi i światłem świata W dzisiejszej Ewangelii Pan Jezus też mówi o świetle i o jednej z przypraw, o soli. Ale nie mówi o świetle w naszych mieszkaniach, nie mówi o reflektorach w samochodach, nie mówi też o takiej soli, która sprawia, że potrawy są smaczniejsze. On mówi do nas: Wy jesteście solą ziemi; wy jesteście światłem świata. Co za dziwne słowa. Na początku naszego spotkania posłuchajcie fragmentu wiersza Juliana Tuwima (fragment może czytać dobrze przygotowane dziecko). Sterczy w ścianie taki pstryczek, Mały pstryczek-elektryczek, Jak tym pstryczkiem zrobić pstryk, To się widno robi w mig. Bardzo łatwo: Pstryk i światło! Pstryknąć potem jeszcze raz Zaraz mrok otoczy nas. A jak pstryknąć trzeci raz Znowu dawny świeci blask. Może niektórzy za was już znali ten trochę śmieszny, ale i bardzo pouczający wierszyk. W każdym z naszych domów jest takich pstryczków bardzo wiele. Są potrzebne, bo dzięki nim można zapalić światło. A przecież światło w domu jest bardzo ważne. Pomyślcie, co by było, gdyby wieczorem w domu nie było światła? (okazja do rozmowy z dziećmi). Byłoby wiele nieszczęść i nie można by nic zrobić. Jak bardzo potrzebne jest światło. Kiedy już zapalimy światło, to możemy pójść do kuchni. Co można znaleźć w kuchni, bez czego żadna mama nie obędzie się przy gotowaniu smacznego obiadu? (okazja do rozmowy z dziećmi). Bardzo ważne są przyprawy. One nadają smak wszystkim posiłkom. Bez przypraw obiad byłby bardzo niesmaczny. Bez światła i bez przypraw żyłoby się bardzo trudno. W dzisiejszej Ewangelii Pan Jezus też mówi o świetle i o jednej z przypraw, o soli. Ale nie mówi o świetle w naszych mieszkaniach, nie mówi o reflektorach w samochodach, nie mówi też o takiej soli, która sprawia, że potrawy są smaczniejsze. On mówi do nas: Wy jesteście solą ziemi; wy jesteście światłem świata. Co za dziwne słowa. Przecież nie jesteśmy ani solą, ani też światłem. Czyżby Pan Jezus się pomylił? O nie, On się nigdy nie myli, bo jest Bogiem. A zatem, co ma na myśli Pan Jezus, gdy dzisiaj do nas kieruje te słowa? Otóż Pan Jezus zaprasza nas dzisiaj do przemiany tego świata, do pomocy ludziom, którzy chodzą w ciemności, którzy nie wiedzą, jak piękne może być życie w przyjaźni z Panem Jezusem. Z pewnością wszystkie dzieci wiele razy słyszały o wielkim papieżu Polaku, Janie Pawle II. Możemy powiedzieć, że on był światłem świata i był solą ziemi.kiedy bowiem pielgrzymował po całym świecie, to wszystkich ludzi swoim słowem i przykładem starał się zaprowadzić do Pana Jezusa. Był światłem, które pokazuje drogę. Świecił nie tylko słowem swoich katechez, ale również swoim przykładem. Kiedyś uklęknął w katedrze na Wawelu. Wszyscy na niego patrzyli i sądzili, że modlitwa potrwa krótką chwilę. A papież modlił się i modlił. I tak pokazał światu, że pośród wszystkich zajęć w ciągu dnia modlitwa jest najważniejsza. To było prawdziwe światło i prawdziwa sól dla wielu ludzi. Wspomnimy jeszcze jedną postać, którą z pewnością znają wasi rodzice: bł. Matka Teresa z Kalkuty. Była bardzo drobną kobietą, ale to co, robiła był prawdziwą solą i prawdziwym światłem dla całego świata. Wyobraźcie sobie, że w dalekich Indiach, gdzie jest wielka bieda, zbierała z ulicy umierających ludzi, którymi nikt się nie interesował. Myła ich, uśmiechała się do nich, modliła się za nich, a oni dzięki temu może po raz pierwszy w życiu poczuli, że są kochani. Matka Teresa robiła to wszystko, bo w każdym człowieku widziała dziecko Boże. I tak dla wielu ludzi stała się światłem i solą, bo wielu ludzi zrozumiało, że trzeba pomagać każdemu człowiekowi, nawet temu najbiedniejszemu, bo każdy jest dzieckiem Bożym. Teraz już wiemy, co znaczy być światłem świata i solą ziemi. I dzisiaj do każdego z nas tu obecnych, do waszych rodziców, do was, do księdza proboszcza i pana organisty mówi Pan Jezus: Ty jesteś solą ziemi i Ty jesteś światłem świata.co mamy więc robić? Być solą ziemi i światłem świata znaczy, że jako dzieci Boże naszym codziennym pięknym życiem pokazujemy innym, jak wspaniale jest być blisko Pana Jezusa. Kto żyje w przyjaźni z Panem Jezusem nigdy nie kłamie, nie mówi brzydkich słów, jest życzliwy dla innych, stara się uczyć jak najlepiej, chętnie pomaga rodzicom, ale i wszystkim potrzebującym pomocy, jest radosny, uśmiechnięty, bo w jego sercu nie ma grzechu, a jeśli czasem niestety się pojawi, to wie, że Pan Jezus czeka na niego w sakramencie pojednania. Kto żyje w przyjaźni z Panem Jezusem wierzy głęboko, że ludzie, którzy kochali Pana Jezusa po swojej śmierci idą do nieba, gdzie czekają już na nich wszyscy święci. Tam spotkają patrona naszej parafii i św. Józefa, Matkę Bożą. Tam nikt się nie kłóci, nie ma wojen, wszyscy są bardzo szczęśliwi, bo są tak blisko Pana Jezusa, jak nawet nie można sobie tego wyobrazić. My w to wszystko wierzymy. Trzeba nam to powiedzieć innym nie tylko naszymi słowami, ale jeszcze bardziej pięknym postępowaniem. Kto tak postępuje, zachęca swoje koleżanki i kolegów, aby przyszli do kościoła, aby pamiętali o comiesięcznej spowiedzi św., jest z pewnością i światłem i solą. Dzięki takiej postawie wielu zagubionych ludzi przyjdzie do Pana Jezusa i będą mogli poznać, że życie blisko Niego jest najpiękniejsze. autor: ks. Paweł Wygralak
