Pastor`s Letter / List Ojca Proboszcza Change is always ambivalent. On one hand, it brings uncertainty as the result of us finding ourselves in a new situation, along with expectations and fears linked with being in a new environment; on the other hand, however, these same expectations and fears give rise to hope and an optimistic outlook for the future. We must treat these as challenges that shape and toughen our spirit and pave the road towards subsequent events in our lives. This optimism and hope are all the more warranted as these changes pertain to people of faith. This is the very situation in which we, the community of St. William s Parish, and I, your new parish pastor, find ourselves in. We are united by shared foundations of faith and the common goal of pilgrimaging towards heaven in St. William s community, which I starting today, by the will of the Bishop of the Archdiocese of Chicago Cardinal Blase Cupich, am to lead. Uncertainty, linked with not yet knowing each other, will quickly transform into jointly overcoming difficulties and challenges that in faith and hope rooted in Christ will become (appear) the purpose of our shared pilgrimage. Today s gospel helps shed light on the subject by reminding us to pour all our trust not in family relations, because they don t give us salvation, which comes from Christ. Family relationships are important as far as this life is concerned. Only Jesus Christ offers salvation, and the path towards salvation is bearing our cross in sincere imitation of Him. He will offer a deeper understanding of the world and our place in it. This is when we will begin to understand that our family and all family ties have been given to us to prepare us for the love of God in Christ and eternal salvation. This takes place through baptism and jointly adoring Christ in His Church. This is what I wish for our community at St. William s Parish. May all of us enjoy our special holiday as we celebrate our 241st year of Independence. Let us thank God for the blessings and the resources of our country. May God bless you in this time, Każda zmiana jest ambiwalentna. Łączy nas ten sam fundament wiary i wspólny cel pielgrzymowania ku niebu we wspólnocie św. Williama, której od dziś, z woli biskupa Kościoła Chicagowskiego (kardynała Blace Cupich) mam przewodniczyć. Niepewność wynikająca z wzajemnej jeszcze nieznajomości szybko ustąpi miejsca wspólnie pokonywanym trudnościom i wyzwaniom, które w wierze i nadziei zakorzenionych w Chrystusie zaczną stanowić sens naszego wspólnego pielgrzymowania. Happy 4 of July. Niech Pan Bóg nam błogosławi w tym świętowaniu, Fr. PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING FOR FREEDOM Freedom is enshrined in our US Constitution. The First Amendment of our constitution protects our freedom of speech. However, our speech may not infringe upon another's freedom. Freedom does have its limits. And we must protect everyone's freedoms, not just ours. On this 4th of July, let us remember from whom all our freedoms originate, our good and gracious God. Let us pray... God, giver of all good gifts, Help us to be thankful for rest and food, and remember that, in all we do or say, you are with us, here this day. We are thankful for all you do and for everything you have given us. But above all we are thankful for our freedoms and the ability to protect others' freedom. We are free because of you. We ask for your continued blessing on all your creation. Through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. GOSPEL MEDITATION - ENCOURAGE DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE "Whoever loses his life for my sake will find it." When Jesus says paradoxical things like this, we can still trust him. Even when he makes claims that, at first glance, seem impossible, we know that he's not talking gibberish. Why? Because Jesus lived the ultimate paradox: he brought life out of death. His resurrection proves for us that things are not always as they appear. The Crucifixion, which looked like the end of Jesus' influence, was actually a tremendous new beginning.so when Jesus promises that we will find life through a kind of death, we shouldn't question his claim. Of course in today's Gospel, Jesus isn't necessarily talking about physical death, although the "red" martyrs who suffer for him do in fact find their reward in eternal life. "White" martyrdom, on the other hand, is a kind of death to self that doesn't involve bloodshed. It means putting love and generous service ahead of our own self-gratification. It means doing these things for the sake of Christ. When he tells us to love our neighbors as ourselves, this is what he's talking about.so, how can we be white martyrs today? How can we sacrifice our desire for perfect comfort, or entertainment on demand, or status or pleasure or sleep or whatever else for the sake of serving another person? In our families, in our schools and workplaces, in our parishes, in our neighborhoods and our communities, there are myriad opportunities to "lose our lives" for the sake of Christ. But don't forget, in dying to ourselves, we will find our lives in a new way! The fulfillment Christ offers us in return, both now and in eternity, will be far better than anything we try to cling to on our own. ATTENTION SENIORS! St. William Seniors will hold their meeting on Monday, July 3rd, starting at 10 am in Liebrich Hall. We will be celebrating with a Red, White and Blue theme! All Seniors are welcome.
