From the Associate Pastor s Desk... In February of 2014, I was sent to this great parish of St. Francis Borgia as a deacon. On July 1, I started working as your associate pastor. Throughout this time, I was blessed to meet and work with many different people. As a newly ordained and "baby" priest I was able to learn a lot from all of you. Today, I wanted to share the news with you regarding my future assignment. For some time, there has been a rumor that I am leaving St. Francis Borgia. However, nothing was official until now. As of July 1, I will be leaving SFB parish. The Priests' Placement Board of the Archdiocese of Chicago has appointed me to be a Director of Liturgy as well as an Associate Pastor at Holy Name Cathedral. When I found out about this appointment, I didn t know what to do. After talking with my spiritual director, praying, as well as talking with the wonderful priests here at SFB, Fr. Joe and Fr. Richard, I accepted this appointment. Please pray for me during this transition as well as for the new associate pastor of SFB. I will miss SFB, however, remember you will always be in my heart. I want to thank Fr. Richard and Fr. Joe for their great leadership and priestly life example that I have learned from both of them. Thank you! Rev. Marek Smolka RESPECT LIFE Human Life Exalted Jesus prayed on the night before he died, "Father, give me the glory I had with you before the world began." How is the glory he has in the Ascension different from the glory he had "before the world began?" It differs only in that now, he has it in a human nature. Our humanity has been taken to the heights of heaven, fulfilling the destiny God intended for human life from the beginning. Revelation 3:21 declares, "To the one who gains the victory, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne." God s plan for us is not just that we will gather around the throne or fall down before the throne, but that we will sit with him on the throne! This hope extended to the human family by the Gospel is directly contradicted when the same human beings destined for the heights of heaven are attacked by violence, degraded in their dignity, or put to death by things like abortion. The human nature Jesus brings to glory in the Ascension is the same human nature you and I share, and the same human nature that the babies in the womb share. Celebrating the Ascension in daily life means treating each human life as one destined to sit with Christ on his throne. School News This Week At St. Francis Borgia School... Week of May 29, 2017 There will be no school on Monday, May 29, in honor of Memorial Day. Please remember all those who have given their lives for our freedom. Father Rich and Father Mark will be treating the school children with an ice cream treat on Wednesday, May 31, in celebration of their farewell from St. Francis Borgia. School families are most welcome to join us in the school parking lot at noon to wish them well. There will be an all-school Mass in church at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, June 2. The first grade will be planning this liturgy. All are welcome to attend. Friday, June 2, will be the last day of school for our 3 Year Old Pre-School and 4 Year Old Pre- Kindergarten students. On Friday, June 2, Kindergarten will be celebrating the completion of their program here at St. Francis Borgia. The festivities will take place in Mayall Hall. The eighth graders will dress in their finest and enjoy their dinner-dance on Friday evening, June 2. Seven eighth grade students represented St. Francis Borgia School at the Illinois Junior Academy of Science State Science Fair held May 6 at Northern Illinois University. Patricia Aguilar, Joseph Bacino, Jonathan Fejkiel, Alyssa McGovern, Emily O Callaghan and Scot Zabielski received a Gold Award. Anna Cozad received a Silver Award. Congratulations to all these students, their parents, and Mrs. Testa (Science) and Mrs. Gallagher (English), their teachers, for this accomplishment. Great work! Borgia Café-Acts-The Spread of the Kingdom The St. Francis Borgia Religious Education Department will be hosting the Borgia CA.F.E.-Catholic Adult Faith Education series-wednesdays, May 17, 24, 31 & June 7 at 7:00 p.m. in the Religious Education Center located in Schoolroom 101. We will study Acts of the Apostles-The Spread of the Kingdom, by Jeff Cavins from The Great Adventure Bible series. Z Biurka Księdza Wikarego... W lutym 2014 roku rozpoczął się jeden z najwspanialszych okresów w mojej kapłańskiej posłudze, gdyż właśnie w tym czasie zostałem powołany na Diakona Parafii Św. Franciszka Borgia, a następnie od 1ipca tegoż roku zacząłem pełnić zaszczytną funkcję wikariusza Waszej Parafii. Przez ten czas miałem przyjemność poznać i pracować z wieloma parafianami, było to dla mnie bardzo miłe i niezwykle pouczajace doświadczenie, a możliwość wspólnego przeżywania różnych świąt i uroczystości była dla mnie czymś naprawdę wyjątkowym. Jednak wszystko ma swój początek i koniec i niestety wszystko kiedyś się kończy aby mogło rozpocząć się nowe... dlatego dzisiaj chciałbym podzielić się z Wami informacją na temat mojej najbliższej przyszłości. Od jakiegos czasu krążyla pogłoska, iz odchodzę z parafii Św. Franciszka Borgia, jednak nic nie bylo na 100 % potwierdzone, dlatego ja sam nie mogłem sie odnieść do tych informacji. Jednak teraz, gdy wszystko zostało juz oficjalnie potwierdzone, chciałbym Was poinformować, iż od 1 lipca 2017 roku rozpoczynam nowy etap mojej kapłańskiej drogi. Rada Kapłanów naszej Archidiecezji mianowała mnie dyrektorem liturgii, a także wikariuszem w Katedrze Imienia Jezus w Downtown w Chicago. Gdy zaproponowano mi wyżej wymienione funkcje sam nie wiedziałem co zrobić lecz po modlitwie, jak i rozmowie z Ojcem Duchowym i Księżmi pracującymi w naszej parafii zdecydowałem, że przyjmę tę nominację. Bardzo Was proszę o modlitwe w mojej intencji. Przeżyłem w tej parafii wiele wspaniałych chwil i poznałem mnóstwo fantastycznych osób. Będę za Wami wszystkimi tęsknił ale już na zawsze pozostaniecie w moim sercu. Rozstania zawsze są bolesne, dlatego nie mówię Wam do widzenia, ale.. do zobaczenia. Chciałbym szczególnie podziękować Księdzu Ryszardowi i Księdzu Józefowi za wspaniały przykład życia kapłańskiego oraz że tak wiele dobrego mogłem się od Nich nauczyć. Ks.
