From the Pastor s Desk December 2016 Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, wmlego@gmail.com (773) 581-2730 ext. 29 Reflecting on the fruits of the Year of Mercy, many of us can recall the example of thousands of now elderly women and men religious who, for so many, were a living sign of God s mercy. These women and men Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests were indeed the hands of Christ as they educated the young, cared for the sick, and ministered to the neediest among us. Through their service, sacrifice and witness, they modeled the compassionate love of Jesus and showed us that we, too, could be instruments of peace and mercy. Today, many senior religious continue to be vessels of mercy, serving in a wide range of volunteer and prayer ministries. Others are frail and need assistance. Most older religious ministered for small stipends, leaving a substantial gap in retirement savings. With the ever-rising cost of health care and the increased number of those needing care, many religious communities struggle to provide for aging members. jdowling42@gmail.com (773) 581-2730 ext. 15 On December 10-11, your parish will be conducting its appeal for the Retirement Fund for Religious, an annual collection that benefits nearly 33,000 senior sisters, brothers, and religious order priests. Your gift provides vital support for medications, nursing care, and more. It also helps religious communities implement long-term retirement strategies that ensure both quality eldercare and continued service to the People of God. The people of the Archdiocese of Chicago have always led the nation in their generous response to this appeal. As not only a matter of justice to care for their needs, but also in thanksgiving for the lessons of mercy senior religious have shared with us, please join me in supporting the Retirement Fund for Religious. johnsotak@hotmail.com (773) 581-2730 ext. 14 Parish Information Masses 4pm Saturday 6:45 am and 11 am Sunday Confessions 5-6pm Saturday Telephone: (773) 581-2730 With every good wish, I remain.
Ukochane Siostry i ukochani Bracia w Chrystusie, wmlego@gmail.com (773) 581-2730 ext. 29 Informacje Parafialne Msza Sw 9:30am w każdą niedziele Spowiedz 3-cia sobota w miesiącu 17:15 do 6:00 p.m. Sakramenty w języku polskim chrzest, slub itp. Te kobiety i ci mężczyźni siostry zakonne, bracia zakonni i ojcowie byli istotnie rękoma Chrystusa, kiedy nauczali młodych, opiekowali się chorymi i udzielali opieki duszpasterskiej najbardziej potrzebującym spośród nas. Dzięki swej służbie, ofierze i świadectwu dawali przykład współczującej miłości Jezusa. Wasza ofiara znacznie pomoże w zakupie lekarstw, w pokryciu kosztów opieki pielęgniarskiej i wielu innych kwestiach.

Every valley shall be filled in, every mountain and hill made low. The crooked roads shall become straight, the rough ways smooth. And all mankind will see God s salvation. ~ Luke 3:4-6 We share Christ s light and our faith is deepened as we celebrate the diversity of our Parish.

The Giving Tree Christmas is coming upon us and for most children it is a joyous time as they anticipate beautifully wrapped presents under the Christmas tree. However, many families in our parish cannot provide their children a Christmas gift because of economic hardships or the parent s loss of a job. The St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Turibius is setting up a Giving Tree to help share Christ s love for children in need. At the front of the Church, there is a Christmas tree decorated with tags listing a child s clothing items and size or toy preferences. Please return the wrapped gift to the tree with the original Christmas tree tag attached to the front of the gift through the weekend of December 11. All gifts should be new and unopened without visible prices or gift receipts. Please only take a tag if you are intending to buy a gift!! Thank you for your generosity and for helping to share the love of Jesus this Christmas for children in need. Because of you, we were able to provide all of our families who attended with Turkeys and all the trimmings. At this time, we would like to thank those of you in our parish family who gave so much of themselves in order to ensure that others could also enjoy this wonderful holiday. First of all, to all of you, the FAMILY OF ST. TURIBIUS, for your consistent help with donations of food and monetary gifts. You are the main support of our organization, and your generosity has always been something that we can depend on. Another thank you to our Building Engineer, MR. BRAULIO ALVARADO, for setting up all the tables and chairs in the hall for the evening, and for transporting all the food that was donated by the patrons of our bingo, every week, to the convent for storage. A great big thank you to "BINGO MIKE" and the ST. TURIBIUS BINGO PATRONS, for their very generous weekly donations of food. Mike explained our Thanksgiving Distribution, he sent out the call for food, and the bingo patrons responded in the most wonderful way. Another great big thank you to some of the best kids in the world, our very own ST. TURIBIUS RELIGIOUS EDUCATION STUDENTS. They showed up, en masse, early in the evening, and carried all the stored food from the convent and the rectory over to the church basement. They helped set it up on the tables so that it could be viewed and distributed to all of our families. Last, but certainly not least, thank you to the MEN OF THE HISPANIC COMMITTEE, who were holding their own meeting in the rectory basement during our distribution, and volunteered to carry all of the undistributed food from the Church basement back to our pantry in the rectory. This action was completely spontaneous and unexpected, and at the end of a very long evening, it was a blessing to all of us to receive their help. Thank you to our FAMILY OF CLIENTS, for allowing us the honor and privilege of sharing our good fortune and our food with you, thereby enabling all of us to fulfill our mission and have a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner In closing, we would like to thank everyone who helped make this evening a huge success. The Thanksgiving Distribution is a vital part of our Mission to serve, and it is also a complex evening involving a great deal of physical labor, which we could never accomplish without everyone's help. Our favorite method of thanking you is to say, "God Bless You All, and, once again, we couldn't have done it without you". St. Vincent de Paul Society We are all God s Family! Somos todos los familiares de Dios! Wszyscy jesteśmy rodzina Boga! We share Christ s light and our faith is deepened as we celebrate the diversity of our Parish.

Parish Mission Statement We Believe that God is Love, and when we live in love we live in God and God lives in us! Therefore we, the Parish Family of Saint Turibius, dedicate ourselves to living out Christ s Great Commandment: we will love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our mind, and with all our strength, and we will show our love for God by the way we love and care for one another. To this end, we will respond to our baptismal call, strengthened by the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit. As a Family of Faith that has an Attitude of Gratitude for the gifts God has given to us, we will share our time, our talent and our treasure with each other. We welcome into our parish family all people, because we believe that together we are the Body of Christ and together we can bring the love, peace, forgiveness, healing, and joy of Christ into our community in ways we never could have if we were to remain apart. May all who meet us, who worship with us, who work and play with us, know we are Christians by our love! Sick Calls Please contact the rectory office (x10) to arrange for visits to the sick and homebound. The priests and our ministers of care will make every effort to visit parishioners in the hospital, at home, and in nursing homes. After Hours Emergency (773) 581-2730 Ext. 55
