Do I? THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT December 14, 2014 Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. 1Thessalonians 5:16 MORE THAN DISCIPLES Each of today s four scriptural roles disciple, prophet, apostle, herald forms a facet of our life in Christ as we live it day by day. Isaiah tells us that a prophet is anointed, as we were anointed at our baptism in water and the Spirit, to bring glad tidings and to promote God s reign of healing, justice and peace. An apostle, like Paul, is one who is sent. Each of us, in his or her own way, is sent by Christ to be a voice of rejoicing, to encourage prophetic voices in the world and to make sure that the work of the Spirit thrives. John the Baptist shows us the job of the herald, making the Lord s way straight, announcing the coming of the Light of the world. Today we also hear from Mary, model disciple. Her song, the Magnificat, shows us the world we must believe in and work for: one in which God is praised, where God s favor is bestowed on the humble, where the hungry are filled and the rich are sent away empty, a world that continues to know and rejoice in the mercy of God that lasts for all ages. The second collection this weekend is for Higher Utility and Energy Costs. Next week s second collection is designated for the Retirement Fund for the Religious Flowers on the Blessed Mother Altar - for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception given in memory of Harry & Gloria Card by daughter Sue Werbecki PARISH GATHERING This Sunday, December 14th, we invite all those who may be alone, due to unforeseen circumstances, a new family in our community or all who feel the need to reach out to others in this beautiful season to our 9:30am liturgy followed by a reception in the school cafeteria. Page 3 ADVENT REFLECTION On the third Sunday of Advent we should look into our personal calendar of life and see how well we practiced our stewardship of time, talent or treasure for God and His Church. There are many ways to accomplish this attend daily mass, get involved with various ministries, offer your talent by teaching religious education, join the choir or make a donation to the Church at Christmas time as a birthday gift to Jesus. Each year we are coming closer to encountering eternity, therefore, through God s goodness and generosity we may have a little more time to do good. This week we light the rose candle which is customarily called the Shepherds Candle and it represents joy. Novena to the Infant Jesus begins Tuesday, Dec. 16th-a traditional nine-day Novena of interrupted prayers. We will recite prayers, particularly for personal intentions, on the weekend as well as following the 6:30am daily mass. We invite parishioners to participate in church or at home. Prayer cards are available at the entrances of the Basilica. Novena and Devotion to St. Joseph - during this Advent Season, please join us on Wed., Dec. 17th at 7:00pm with members of our Parish Council to ask our Patron to pray for us and help us to overcome evil, do good and imitate him by being obedient and compassionate. Druga kolekta w przyszłą niedzielę będzie przeznaczone na Retirement Fund for the Religious. SPOTKANIE PARAFIALNE Adwent i Boże Narodzenie to szczególny czasy, kiedy bardziej niż kiedykolwiek pragniemy poczuć obecność członków rodziny, bliskich i odnowić przyjaźnie oraz znajomości z sąsiadami. 15:00 w Bartlett High School nasi uczniowie, zaprezentują St. Joseph School Annual Christmas Pageant: The First Leon. Gratulujemy! Po odliczeniu kosztów i wydatków pozostał zysk w wysokości $2871. Jesteśmy wdzięczni wszystkim, którzy wsparli ten fundusz. Mary Piorun z wygranej przekazała $1000 na wsparcie funduszu, więc łączna suma zabrana na Zobowiązania Diecezjalne wyniosła $3871. FUNDUSZ EMERYTALNY W weekend 20 i 21 grudnia w Bazylice odbędzie się zbiórka na Fundusz Emerytalny Dla Osób Kosekrowanych (Retirement Fund for the Religious).
