August 24, 2003 Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time Page Three Fulfilling God s will quietly this is the motto of my priestly ministry. I have been fascinated with the army uniform and the cassock since my childhood. I was born in the little town of Blachownia located near Czêstochowa. I was both an altar server and a Boy Scout when I was 8 years old. I had an interest, then, in history and biology. I went to high school in Czêstochowa. While in high school I was already a lector at Mass and a scout master for my troop. At that time I began walking to Jasna Gora to visit the miraculous image of St. Mary of Czêstochowa. I was also a member of a youth group Life-Light and I sang in a church choir Vexilla Dei. After graduating from high school, I studied history and electro-cardiology at the University. I received diplomas for both. While I was a student, I began hiking in the Polish mountains and it soon became my passion. To this day, the only mountains I have not yet visited are Bieszczady. Photography and bicycle riding are also among my interests. My longest and furthest trip on a bicycle was from Czêstochowa to an Italian town, Rimini. We traveled 2000 km (1250 miles) though the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria and Slovenia. The trip took us a month. In 1992 I began my studies at the Major Seminary of Czêstochowa and I was ordained 6 years later on May 28, 1998 at Holy Family Cathedral in Czêstochowa. I worked as an associate in three parishes and then for 3 years, I was an editor of the Catholic magazine Niedziela. During that time I earned a degree in journalism. My interest in journalism began when I was the author of our scout bulletin, then was nurtured while in the seminary where I wrote for two major seminarian newspapers Nasze ycie and Nikodem. Now I am here in Chicago, in the parish of St. Ferdinand. I hope to minister to the Polish people, and together, we may grow in the light of our Lord. As members of the parish faith community, it is our responsibility to remember both in concrete and spiritual ways those who cannot celebrate with us each week because they are ill. Those who are sick in turn, remember all of us daily in their prayers and in their sufferings. We experience many blessings because of their remembering us. And so... please remember in your prayers: Joseph Balicki Timothy Benson Albin Bilinski Stephanie Bosco Alba Jennie Burroughs Benito Cabanin Bishop Edwin Conway Anna Diks Honor Draftz Lillian Dziedzic Fred Forte Joseph Gagliano Fatima Gomez Rocco Greco Ben Guttiula Mary Hain Mary Ann Johansen Catherine Keeler Stanley Kochniarczyk Helen Kosirog Tad Koziol June Landers James Lamberti Sam LoDolce Netta Lohrmann School News Our Financial Support of St. Ferdinand Parish Eleanor Loscuito Elizabeth Ann Maher Susan Maher Francesco Mangialardo Mary Martin Estelle Toots McGuigan Emilia Moreno Eleanor O Donovan Dan Oliver, Jr. Deborah L. There is obviously reason for great concern in the area of our parish stewardship. Usually during the summer weeks we experience a decline of ten to fifteen percent from our weekly goal. This past year we consistently fell short of our goal and this summer the collections have been down 23% since Mother s Day weekend (down 33% the last two Sundays). We are hopeful that collections will increase during September once the vacation season ends. Please remember to make-up your regular weekly commitment to God during the coming weeks. We truly appreciate when you do so, and your continued generosity is vital to the future of our parish ministries. Thank you for all that you do in support of the mission of St. Ferdinand Church. Page Six Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time August 24, 2003 Cicho Bosk¹ spe³niaæ wolê - to moje has³o kap³añskiego ycia. Od najm³odszych lat fascynowa³ mnie mundur wojskowy i sutanna. A urodzi³em siê w ma³ym miasteczku- Blachownia, le ¹cym blisko Czêstochowy. Ju w wieku 8 lat by³em ministrantem i harcerzem, w dru ynie kultywuj¹cej tradycje Pu³ku 4 U³anów Zaniemeñskich. A poza tym interesowa³a mnie historia i biologia. Moja najd³u sza i najdalsza wyprawa to podró z Czêstochowy do w³oskiego Rimini, przez Czechy, S³owacjê, Austriê i S³oweniê. Przejechaliœmy wówczas 2000 kilometrów w ci¹gu miesi¹ca. W 1992 roku wst¹pi³em do Wy szego Seminarium Duchownego Archidiecezji Czêstochowskiej. I po 6 latach, 30 maja 1998 roku w Archikatedrze Œwiêtej Rodziny w Czêstochowie przyj¹³em œwiêcenie kap³añskie. Jako wikariusz pracowa³em najpierw w diecezjalnym Sankutuarium Matki Bo ej Ró añcowej w Mrzyg³odzie, a nastêpnie w dwóch parafiach w Czêstochowie. A w seminarium redagowa³em pisma: Nasze ycie i Nikodem. August 24, 2003 Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time Page Nine Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, August 7, 2003 In his apostolic letter Rosarium Virginis Mariae [On the Most Holy Rosary], Pope John Paul II declared October 2002- October 2003 The Year of the Rosary. His intent in that letter was to offer encouragement and an exhortation to all the Catholic faithful to contemplate the face of Christ in union with, and at the school of, his Most Holy Mother. The Holy Father envisions the Rosary and the person of the Blessed Virgin Mary as indispensable elements of a contemplative renewal in the Church. From this contemplative renewal, he expects a revitalized spirit of mission in the Church. In the Archdiocese of Chicago, we join the Holy Father and the universal Church in celebrating the Year of the Rosary through a series of prayer services in the months of September and October. We will also have catechetical and instructional materials available for those who wish them. Finally, we encourage each other to pray the Rosary and so to join ourselves more closely to the mysteries of Jesus Christ in the company and with the guidance of his Mother. I urge you and invite you to be a part of this holy moment. Sincerely yours in Christ, Support Staff Mrs. Aneta Koæma, Administrative Assistant Mrs. Wendy L.
