Monnet International School: Prywatne Gimnazjum nr 33 School Assessment Policy

Transkrypt:

Monnet International School (IB School 1483) - LANGUAGE POLICY Philosophy Monnet International School: students come from different cultural, linguistic and social backgrounds. We help them to learn and experience success in a second language. Our program provides a foundation for the lifelong process of language acquisition. Our main goals as language teachers are: to stress the importance of language in all subjects to promote awareness of one`s language and culture to create a learning environment that demonstrates respect for the world s diversity to foster cross-cultural awareness and understanding to encourage students to pursue competency in multiple languages give students the opportunity to increase their confidence to express themselves using all language skills and allow students to communicate easily with people from different countries to foster the ability to express their critical thinking outcomes to equip students with needful skills to succeed at every level of their schooling and to become future

productive member of a global society and valuable employee in the global vocation market. We believe that language is at the heart of learning as a basic tool of communication. Language acquisition and proficiency is inevitable to the success of our students as they are members of various communities and strive to become cooperative and independents adults. Language diversity MYP students at Monnet International School speak different languages. Most students speak Polish as their first language but other have first language such as English, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, Korean, Arabic, Spanish and so on. Students may speak their first language outside of class unless they are in a group of students where some do not understand the language. We never use language to exclude others and we therefore encourage students to also speak English outside of the classroom. Working Languages The languages of instruction are both: English and Polish with the exception of other language classes where

instruction is delivered in the target language (French and Spanish) or in Polish. Therefore additional English and Polish teaching is available for non-native speakers of Polish and English. Polish mother-tongue students are expected to achieve similar objectives in Polish as those for English. Polish students are provided with suitable native language programmes in language, history, geography, mathematics and science which prepare them for Polish State Examinations in middle school and which follow the Polish state curriculum in grades 2-4 MYP. Languages Offered Language and Literature also known as Language A Monnet International School: Prywante Gimnazjum no 33 offers: - Polish Language and Literature Language Acquisition also known as Language B Monnet International School: Prywatne Gimnazjum no 33 offers: - English (standard or higher level), - French and Spanish are offered as foreign languages from grades 2-4 MYP. Students should choose one of

these foreign languages and follow it throughout grades. In the Diploma Programme student can continue to study French or Spanish as a language B at standard or higher level. Language A and B support Monnet International School encourage students to develop their language skills. The school offers additional lessons to help students progress as quickly as they are able to. Extracurricular Activities Monnet International School arranges annual English language course in London and Spanish course in Madrit. Library Books at school library are available in English, Polish, French, German and Spanish. We continue to buy books in different languages. Resources are also available at British Council, Institiut Francais and Instituto Cervantes in Warsaw.

That means that written and oral information from the school staff to students is usually in these both languages. LANGUAGE POLICY - GENERAL REGULATIONS 1.
