As we begin a new 2016-2017 school year we would like to invite young boys (who have made their First Communion) or young men to join our Parish Altar Servers. St. Ferdinand s Altar Servers is a community of young men with courage, love and dedica on to Jesus Christ through the ministry of serving at the altar. Our mission is to communicate the message of Christ s redeeming love to those lives we touch in the parish and throughout the community. With the use of our me, talent and treasure we support our Church. If you feel you are interested, please ask your parents to contact me. What does it mean to have a Mass offered" for someone? An individual may ask a priest to offer a Mass for several reasons: for example, in thanksgiving, for the inten ons of another person (such as on a birthday), or, as is most common, for the repose of the soul of someone who has died. One must never forget the infinite graces that flow from the Sacrifice of the Mass which benefit one s soul. We find not only the origins of this prac ce da ng to the early Church but we also clearly recognize its importance.

October 2, 2016 27th Ordinary Sunday Page Seven OCTOBER IS THE MONTH OF ROSARY AND THE RESPECT LIFE MONTH For us Catholics October is Respect Life Month, the Month of the Rosary and the Month of the Missions. The first Sunday of October is Respect Life Sunday; October 7 is the Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary; and Sunday October 23rd is World Mission Sunday. This might be an appropriate me to think about personal or family recita on of the Rosary. So many people think that the Rosary is the repe on of prayers when it is really medita on on the mysteries in the life of Our Blessed Lady and the Lord Jesus. Try this during the month of October this year! Begin the Rosary in the usual way and when you come to the mysteries just say the Our Father, read the verse in the Scripture that corresponds to the mystery, be silent for a few moments, say the Hail Mary and Glory be and move on to the next mystery. Legend has it that the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to St. Dominic in 1206 and gave him the Holy Rosary to pray in his fight against the here cs of the me and to preach its use and efficacy. History is replete with both personal and worldly triumphs a ributed to the devout devo on of the Holy Rosary. The Rosary is Christ centered se ng forth in its mysteries the en re life of Christ. At the same me the Rosary honors and contemplates Mary also because of the mission she received from God. The prayers of the Rosary are directly from Christ himself, from Scriptures or from the Church. The rosary consists of two elements: the recita on of the prayers and the medita on on the mysteries. While recita on of the rosary has its origins several centuries ago, it is a very contemporary prayer that nurtures our faith. Jest to szczególny rok dla naszej wspólnoty Kół Żywego Różanca, ponieważ poprzez modlitwę wspólne rozważania przygotowujemy się do obchodów 100 lecia objawień w Fa mie, które będziemy obchodzić w przyszłym roku. Codziennie 120 osób modli się jako "Żywy Różaniec" w intencji wspólnoty parafialnej, całego Kościoła, tak ważny w dzisiejszych czasach pokóju na świecie. "Żywy Różaniec" służy pomocą Księdzu proboszczowi w działaniach duszpasterskich. Koła różańcowe uczestniczą w życiu liturgicznym Kościoła parafialnego poprzez posługę modlitwy różańcowej podczas świąt i uroczystości maryjnych oraz kościelnych, poprzez comiesięczne pierwszo-sobotnie czuwania maryjne i sobotni różaniec przed polską Mszą św. October 2, 2016 27th Ordinary Sunday Page Thirteen ON FAITH, AND SMILING IN THE DARK Copyright 2015 by John B. Reynolds (john@jrwrites.com) Today s readings are all about faith. Like every Scripture passage, these passages I m sure mean different things to different people. Perhaps, then, all of the defini ons of faith from dic onary.com apply in one way or another, depending on circumstance. Like confidence or trust in a person or thing. Or belief that is not based on proof. Or belief in God or in the doctrines or teaching of religion. Or even the obliga on of loyalty or fidelity to a person, promise, engagement, etc. To me, though, a key element of faith is not even referenced here. This element has to do with ming (as in, precisely when one s faith is invoked). It s easy to have faith, a er all, when all is well with us. But some mes many of us... Forgive the presumed inclusion. Some mes I want everything to be lined up before I walk in faith. For example: God, I ll take this step of faith if you put a rainbow in the sky for me this a ernoon, and just this once, I d like you to mix up the order of the green and blue, and then seal the deal for me by sending two shoo ng stars my way come night fall. Uh, yellow shoo ng stars Yeah. It s easy to walk in faith when we know the path. But that s not faith. I had a poster in college that showed a wide-eyed cat miraculously clinging by its front paws to a horizontal metal bar. The cap on was something like: It s not really faith un l it s all you have to hang on to. To an extent, the prophet Habakkuk in the first reading is s ll trying to grasp this principle. I can t blame the guy, for albeit less eloquently, my pleas for help over the years--for myself and for the world-at-large- -have echoed the prophet s own plea. How long, O Lord? I cry for help but you do not listen! I cry out to you, Violence! but you do not intervene Destruc on and violence are before me; there is strife, and clamorous discord. To my ear, God s response is gentler than Christ s Oh-you-of-li le-faith response directed to his disciples before he calmed the storm at sea. By comparison, God tells Habakkuk: the vision s ll has its me, presses on to fulfillment, and will not disappoint; if it delays, wait for it, it will surely come, it will not be late I wrote an anniversary song for my wife a few years back, and the repea ng chorus goes like this: I m smiling in the dark because of you Ul mately, this defines faith. It s knowing--and I mean deep, deep down--that even during the hard and some mes terrifying mes, God is for us, and all is well. I m not saying that such faith is easy to come by. I am saying that such faith is the faith Jesus calls us to. Paul puts it this way to Timothy: Do not be ashamed of your tes mony to our Lord but bear your share of hardship for the gospel with the strength that comes from God, and when the apostles ask for increased faith, Jesus himself responds: If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you would say to this mulberry tree, Be uprooted and planted in the sea, and it would obey you. Man, what a powerful image! And if we could all embrace it--and I mean deep, deep down embrace it--then every day and always, we d be singing to our Triune God the same song I sang to Gail a few years back: I m smiling in the dark because of you. Classes are held in English on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30PM in the Church, and in Polish on the last Tuesday of each month at 7:30PM in the Church. Following registration, the sacrament of Baptism is celebrated in English on the second Saturday each month at 6:00PM and on the fourth Sunday of the month at the 12:30PM Mass. The sacrament of Baptism is celebrated in Polish on the first Saturday of the month at 6:00PM and on the third Sunday of the month at the 3:00PM Mass.
