Jesus is clear it s the love that you have in your heart that will get you to heaven. Simply following church rules out of obligation, not love, does not put you on the path to heaven. Attending Mass on Sunday and then gossiping about fellow parishioner on the parking lot is an example of a modern day Pharisee. He insists that he has come to fulfill, not abolish the law. Jesus is explicit here. He repeats the phrase, He will not settle for mere avoidance of outright murder or adultery or lying. He goes to the source of murder hatred, resentment, spite. He insists on chaste living. He overrules the one-sided loopholes that allow men to divorce women, a law based on the view of women as property. He disallows all the means that people employ to play fast and loose with the marriage. His words urge mutual fidelity. His listeners and followers are to honor the law wholly and not minimally. The consequences of failure are clear and severe. The smallest are watching. They are those rendered powerless by age and ignorance and circumstance. These little ones depend on the word and action of the mature and knowledgeable, and they are not betrayed. This week s second collection is designated for The Catholic Home Missions Appeal.

Also the footing trench is being constructed. The steel for the preengineering building has arrived. We are hoping for an official opening date set for August. RETREAT FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS Fr. Jonathan Slavinskas, Parochial Vicar of Blessed John Paul II Parish, Southbridge, MA invites high school aged students of our parish to attend a retreat to be held on Saturday, March 1st. The retreat focuses on specific talks which were given by both experienced speakers along with the youth themselves in sharing personal testimonials. Page 4 REMEMBERING OUR DECEASED LOVED ONES Why have a Mass for a deceased loved one? Just as we pray for others here on earth, we are encouraged by the Church to pray for souls who may be in purgatory. Why? We are all in need of grace to come into the perfection of charity. We cannot enter heaven if we have not been completely cleansed of sin and all punishment due to sin. Since the Mass is the source and summit of the Christian Life, we naturally look to that Holy Sacrifice of Christ, containing the perfect prayer to offer our deceased relatives and friends who may still need the help of our prayers. Priests remember in a special way the person for whom the Mass is being offered. Masses at our Basilica are noted in our weekly bulletin and announced before Mass. We can t really speak of time since the deceased person has entered eternity, but we can speak in terms of final purification before entrance into heaven. We believe that Mass offered for a departed relative or friend may help hasten that final purification which he/she may still be undergoing in purgatory. YOUTH GROUP Come and be a part of the Youth Group s Interpretation of the Passion of Our Lord. - The Youth Group Passion Play is an annual event held on Good Friday. All interested young people in grades 5-12 are encouraged to take part. No acting experience necessary and the presentation is narrated, so actors need not speak aloud. KRONIKA PARAFIALNA SZÓSTA NIEDZIELA ZWYKŁA 16 lutego 2014 Właśnie głosimy, jak zostało napisane, to, czego ani oko nie widziało, ani ucho nie słyszało, ani serce człowieka nie zdołało pojąć, jak wielkie rzeczy przygotował Bóg tym, którzy Go miłują. Nam zaś objawił to Bóg przez Ducha. (1Kor 2, 9-10) Prawo ustanowione przez ludzi można i trzeba nieustannie doskonalić. Tego wymaga życie. Inaczej jest z prawem Boga. Ono jest doskonałe, doskonalsze od grzesznego człowieka i dlatego nie można go zmieniać, trzeba je wypełnić. Tymczasem wielu ludzi, traktując Prawo Boga identycznie jak prawo ludzkie, chce je zmieniać, chce je dostosowywać do swoich możliwości. Wielu sądzi, że jeśli prawo będzie łaskawe dla łamiących je, to życie będzie łatwiejsze. Wielki błąd. Usuwanie prawa lub znoszenie sankcji prawnych jest drogą wiodącą ku upadkowi człowieka. Jeśli będzie wolno kłamać, to na ziemi wszyscy staną się kłamcami, jeśli będzie wolno kraść, wszyscy będą złodziejami, jeśli będzie wolno zabijać, wszyscy będą mordercami, jeśli będzie wolno cudzołożyć, wszyscy będą cudzołożnikami. Życie zamieni się w piekło. Boskie Prawo pomaga doskonalić serce człowieka i normować w duchu pokoju życie w społeczności. GRUPA MŁODZIEŻOWA Przyjdź i być częścią interpretacji Męki Naszego Pana przygotowanej przez Grupę Młodzieżową. Youth Group Passion Play to coroczne wydarzenie organizowane w Wielki Piątek. Wszystkich zainteresowanych, młodzież i dzieci z klas 5-12 są zaproszeni do wzięcia udziału. Próby będą odbywały się w godzinach popołudniowych w dniach: 30 marca, 6 kwietnia i 13 kwietnia w kościele Najświętszego Serca Pana Jezusa. Passion Play zostanie wystawione w Wielki Piątek, 18 kwietnia.
