Ferriso On March 22, 2014,The Town of Babylon honored Joseph, naming March 22nd Joseph Ferriso Day because he reached Eagle Scout rank. Next Sunday he will be remembered at the 1:15pm Mass at Our Lady of Assumption Church. Prepare yourselves for the onslaught of the shenanigans that only the Irish can produce (with a little help from the leprachauns). As you know, there are plenty of Irish once you realize that on St. Patrick s Day the whole community is Irish, either by heritage or honorary endowment. We thought of asking for green tea, seaweed, spinach and broccoli but thought better of it for fear we would be inundated with moldy cheese, bread and other undesireable greenery. We will stick to asking for potatoes, peanut butter, jelly, shelf milk and cold cereal. Enjoy your corned beef and cabbage! And also enjoy that Friday is the first day of Spring...hopefully, we will be spared a snowstorm. REJOICE IN GOD S LOVE! Once again, as last week, the message is God s love. St. Paul tells us in the second reading that God is rich in mercy because of the great love he had for us even when we were sinners. But in the Gospel for today, the story of Jesus talking to Nicodemus, we have Jesus himself describing God s love for us. God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. If we love someone, we are willing to give that person the best that we have. And that is what God did! Jesus also refers to himself as the light who came into the world. He urges us to live the truth so that we may come to the light, so that our works may be seen as done in God. So on this Sunday, traditionally known as Laetare (to rejoice) Sunday let us rejoice in God s love for us. Agnes Scheuermann
