The paperwhites are planted throughout the church, the wreath is suspended from the ceiling, the wintry blue and purple vigil lights flicker in the darkness..all for the brief four weeks that let us know that we are approaching Christmas. We ended the liturgical year last Sunday with such a grand finale! So many people worked so had to make sure that our Eucharistic Day was a success. It was too bad that the weather was not on our side...i think it may have kept many from attending our Vesper Service and Procession. The crowd was exceptionally small this year, a little sad. But, perhaps those who were not present were actually out and about truly living the Eucharist! Perhaps they were out taking care of someone in need, comforting them, staying with someone who might be ill, taking food to someone who was hungry. Perhaps some people even took the Eucharist to a homebound parishioner. Those are all very important things. With the recent selection of Pope Francis as our holy father it s been good to see so many people feeling reinvigorated about things Eucharistic. I guess it s all a matter of how he manages to inspire with his actions and his words. I, for one, see little difference between his words and actions and those of Bl. John XXIII or Pope Paul VI or Pope John Paul I or Bl. John Paul II or Pope Benedict XVI. They all said the same thing...just in their own ways. It s nice that so many people love Pope Francis, but is that making a difference in how they live? It s nice that he touches sick people...do they? It s nice he lives modestly...do they? It s nice he listens...do they? He is simply being Eucharistic...the same thing each of us has been called to be from the time we were baptized. Is it that people think it s cute that this friendly little old man does all these things? Does it follow that we should do the same? Have his actions made anyone change for the better? His message is quite serious. The upcoming Christmas season can have the same effect in our lives. It can be a cute little event with saccharine manger scenes showing cleaned up shepherds and fancy shmancy magi visiting a plump little baby (which eventually evolves into even more saccharine elves and santas and dancing pierogi snowflakes and talking reindeer)...or it can actually be a serious event in salvation history. During Advent we might wonder exactly what it is we are preparing to celebrate. Does the Incarnation make an ounce of difference in our daily activities? Does the Eucharist do the same? Do we have the courage to see these important parts of our faith as adults or will we remain in second grade in our first communion outfits? The bulbs are planted. They will grow for a few weeks and begin to blossom by Christmas. The seeds of faith were planted many years ago in each of us will those seeds blossom before we are planted six feet under at Calvary or All Saints or Holy Cross? Happily, we do know that many of those seeds really do blossom regularly in all the good acts our parishioners quietly perform in their private lives...when living the Eucharist. David Krakowski

Why not make the empty baskets for the Infants and Toddlers an Advent Giving Basket!? You don't have to worry about size or color, boy or girl---you don't even have to wrap it! A naked can of soup, an unwrapped jar of peanut butter, a box of graham crackers...how much easier can it get? Want reality? Go look at the line of people waiting for food at Holy Name Ozanam Center, see if it doesn't touch your heart...it may even bring a tear to your eye! Please remember the hungry children. An anonymous donor did just that and I was able to purchase and deliver over a hundred jars of baby food! The prayers at the Thanksgiving tables will be..."thank you God...someone cared." Approximate Quantity you plan to donate: I would also be willing to help at the sale on Saturday from 10-2 Saturday after 5pm mass Sunday morning
CHRISTMAS PIEROGI SALE After our last pierogi sale, the crew did an inventory of what is left. We have potato cheddar, kraut (no mushrooms), cheese, meat, and blueberry. Quantities are very limited and when they are gone that is it until next festival. Also, we peeked in boxes to find some Polish and Estonian beverages and also some cherry and blackberry specialties which are great for cold season! So, we are teaming up with the cookie sale on the weekend of December 14 and 15 after Masses (pierogi sold after Masses only). Stock up your freezer for Christmas holiday dinners, gifts, and Lent which will sneak up on us very soon. A TETE A TETE Captured above is snapshot of one person having a quiet period of adoration during last Sunday s Eucharistic day. Perhaps the inclement weather inhibited others from doing the same. Perhaps. I do know that some people were actually out and about LIVING the Eucharist as they tended the sick, visited the elderly, comforted those who mourned the loss of a loved one. How beautiful that God worked through their lips and hands and hearts. ADVENT GIVING TREE We will once again have our Advent Giving Tree for our school children. The Giving Tree is set up in the rear of the church beginning this weekend. On the tree will be gift tags, one for each child. The gift tags will indicate if the child is a boy or girl, and their age. Please choose a gift tag (or two) from the tree. Purchase a gift for the child (no used items please), wrap your gift, and securely attach the ornament tag to the gift. We suggest a clothing item and a toy. It has been requested that the clothing item may be solid-color red or black, sweatpants or shorts. Bring your wrapped gift back to the church and place it under the Giving Tree no later than Sunday, December 8th. We will then distribute them to our school children on behalf of the parishioners of St. Stanislaus. If you are unable to purchase a gift, cash donations will be accepted. Simply place your contribution in an envelope marked "Giving Tree" and drop it in the collection basket at mass. Our Giving Tree is a wonderful opportunity for each of us to experience the joy of giving of ourselves to others in need this Christmas season." TODAY!!!!!Parishioners asked to help Philippine Typhoon Victims Cleveland Bishop Richard Lennon, in response to a request from Catholic Relief Services, is asking the 185 parishes of the Diocese to offer a special, second collection the weekend of November 30 - December 1, 2013. The funds will be sent to Catholic Relief Services, the official international humanitarian agency of the Catholic Community in the United States. The funds will benefit the Philippine people who are victims of super typhoon Haiyan. With wind speeds of 195 mph, it is now recorded as the strongest tropical cyclone on record time to have made landfall. An estimated 9.5 million people are suffering from the destruction. Donors are advised to make checks payable to their individual parish (memo - Typhoon Relief). The parishes are then being asked to submit a totaled single check to the Diocese Finance Office made payable to "Diocese of Cleveland." Catholic Relief Services responds to massive destruction of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines - U.S. Bishops call for National Collection to Aid Victims Super Typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines on November 8, 2013 striking Guiuan, Eastern Samar Island, with wind speeds of 195 mph, making it the strongest tropical cyclone on record to have made landfall anywhere in the world. Thousands have died and an estimated 9.5 million people are suffering from destruction on par with that seen after the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. The needs are immense shelter, food, water, sanitation, and medicine. INFANTS AND TODDLERS... Did you donate to the mission last weekend? SURPRISE! We have a mission right here at St. Stan's!...to help feed the hungry children of Slavic Village! All it takes is a jar of baby food, a can of pasta! Please let them be thankful this Thanksgiving that the kind and generous parishioners of St. Stan's remembered them not only in their prayers but by filling the empty baskets located in the rear of the church! Do you not see Christ in their hungry faces? Donate and enter the Dec.15th drawing.
A jeśli rodzice, dziadkowie chcą aby św. Mikołaj wręczył wyjątkowy prezent dziecku to prosimy o podpisanie i przyniesienie go do kancelarii w godzinach urzędowania. W sobotę 14-go i 15-go grudnia po wszystkich Mszach św. w budynku social center organizujemy drugą z kolei sprzedaż świątecznych ciastek. Sprzedawać będziemy na wagę porcja 0,5 kg. Aby ta akcja stała się sukcesem, prosimy każdego z Was o ofiarowanie porcji takich właśnie ciastek domowego wypieku.
