Wójcicki FROM THE ED I TORS The se ries Studia Geologica Polonica is an of fi cial pub li ca tion of the In sti - tute of Geo log i cal Sci ences, Pol ish Acad emy of Sci ences, cre ated in 1958 by Pro - fes sor Stefan Zbigniew Ró ycki, the Dep uty Di rec tor of the In sti tute of Geo log i cal Sci ences, Pol ish Acad emy of Sci ences (War saw). The ed i to rial work was done by Do cent (later Pro fes sor) Krzysztof Birkenmajer as sci en tific sec re tary and man ag - ing ed i tor. From 1986 Prof. Birkenmajer is the chief ed i tor of the se ries. From the be gin ning, Studia Geologica Polonica was in tended to be a se ries of larger sci en tific pa pers, mono graphs and syn the ses pub lished at ir reg u lar in ter - vals. Its scope in cluded mainly stra tig ra phy, tec ton ics and re gional ge ol ogy. It soon oc curred that cre ation of a re gional ge ol ogy subseries would en rich the scope of the pub li ca tion. Fol low ing this, al ready in 1960, it was cre ated a subseries on geo log i - cal re sults of the Pol ish Spitsbergen Ex pe di tions. So far, it re sulted in pub li ca tion of 17 vol umes (Parts I XVII), the last one in 2010. The sec ond re gional subseries in cluded re sults of geo log i cal in ves ti ga tions in the Pieniny Klippen Belt (from 1979), later (1998) also in the Tatra Mts. 21 vol - umes in all (Parts I XXI). The third re gional subseries in cluded geo log i cal re sults of the Pol ish Ant arc tic Ex pe di tions (15 vol umes from 1980 to 2008, Parts I XV). These three re gional subseries were ed ited by Prof. Birkenmajer. Other the matic subseries of Studia Geologica Polonica in cluded Pleis to cene of Mid dle Po land ed ited by Prof. Stefan Z. Ró ycki; al to gether 15 vol umes (Parts I XV). It was con tin ued by Prof. Teresa Madeyska (1991 2002), Dr. Katarzyna Straszewska and Dr. Jan Rudnicki (1992), two more Parts (1991 1998), as Qua ter - nary of Mid dle Eu rope. In 1983 Prof. Ryszard Gradziñski cre ated a subseries on sedimentology (1983 1986, Parts I IV). In 1994 Prof. Andrzej Pszczó³kowski col lected pa pers on ge ol ogy of west ern Cuba, and in 1999 on Me so zoic stra tig ra phy of Cuba. In 2004, a vol ume (no. 122), ed ited by Prof. Birkenmajer, was ded i cated to 50 th An ni ver sary of the Cra - cow Geo log i cal Lab o ra tory of the Pol ish Acad emy of Sci ences. Vol umes 125 and 126 (2006), ed ited by Prof. Jan Dowgia³³o, in cluded pa pers de voted to hydrogeology and hydrochemistry. Three vol umes, 124 (2005), 134 (2011) and 136 (2013), on Meth ods and ap pli ca tions in Micropalaeontology, were ed ited mainly by Prof. Jaros³aw Tyszka.
