14th European Conference on Asylum in Warsaw 3 Idea of the Conference In our conference we would like to bring together people from all over Europe working in the field of refugee protection and assistance in advocacy work, social assistance and legal aid. In the first place the aim of the Conference Series is to get an insight into the asylum system of the host country in the view of the declared goal of the EU to built Common European Asylum System (CEAS) under the Stockholm Programme until 2012. We would like to discuss bestpractices within the EU in the area of refugee reception and integration of refugees. The conference will include visits of institutions and reception centers to discuss concrete challenges and best practice examples in the asylum field, both legislative and practical. As the headquarters of Frontex is based in Warsaw we will have a presentation from this organization and have the possibility to address the topic EU-borders and Human Rights standards in Frontex operations in the conflict area of migration control and refugee protection. We would also like to highlight the situation of refugees in the Ukraine at the external frontiers of the EU like we did at the last Conference in Palermo with people in northern Africa Asylum seekers trying to access the EU. We strive to cooperate with all involved Polish NGO s and governmental institutions that are interested as well as out partner Churches within the Polish Ecumenical Council and the Diakonia of Poland, Caritas and Eleos are also included in the planning. The 14th European on Asylum is based on the experience of previous Conferences in Casablanca / Morocco (2007) and Lesvos / Greece (2008) and Malta (2009) and Palermo (2010). The estimated 50 participants are multipliers and multipliers from both legal and refugee from different European countries. The internationality of the participants (Belgium, Germany, France, Greece, Great Britain, Italy, Malta, Morocco, Poland, Sweden, Spain, Turkey, Hungary and Ukraine) emphasizes the impact of the Conference to Human Rights Work in different contexts. We are looking forward to an inspiring conference which shall enrich our vision to make Europe a better home for refugees and shall stimulate new ideas and discussions by interacting with people from all over Europe. We invite you to participate and to promote the commitment for people seeking protection in Europe. Maria Loheide Member of the Board for Social Policy, Diaconia Germany Prof. Dr. hab.
