Dear Parishioners and Friends, The readings for the Third of Ordinary Time, as well as the readings for the previous, tell us a lot about vocations, about an invitation, which God sent to man, with the offer of cooperation. This is an invitation that can be accepted, but can be rejected also, using various excuses, which we certainly have plenty of. Each of us have, after all, our own excuses or justifications. I talked about this in my homily last during the English Masses. I would like to quote its main ideas, because they are very well illustrated by today's reading. This is worth mentioning today for two reasons. First of all, today's readings remind us that we need to pray for vocations in the Church. While we may be obedient in doing this, too often we want these vocations for someone else, or for someone else's child. This internal resistance may be to blame if we find ourselves making excuses about not praying for religious vocations. The second reason to mention excuses is because they are usually contrary to God's will. We have to face the fact that, sooner or later, there is not one single excuse that will work when we stand before God. What excuse would be good enough to explain why we did not listen to God's voice stirring in our hearts, but chose, instead, to follow some other path? Is following a religious vocation in today's Church easy? No. Is being a follower of Jesus easy? No. But our mission is to be faithful to the Lord's call to us. Whether we choose to accept the call or not, is up to each of us. For most people that call includes married life. And, within that vocation is the call to be parents. For some of us, the call is to the ordained or consecrated ministry within the Church. Whatever the call, whatever the path we are to take, make no mistake, it is the Lord doing the calling. And, we are to respond with no excuses. Where would we be if Samuel, Simon Peter or Andrew, Jacob, or John or any one of the Saints of the Church said, No, listed their excuses, and then walked away? So, let there be no excuses today. Let God do the talking, and let us do the responding in faith. With grateful remembrance in prayer, Fr. Jacek Wrona, Pastor Drodzy Parafianie i Przyjaciele, Czytania III Niedzieli Zwykłej tak jak i poprzedniej niedzieli mówią dużo o powołaniu, o zaproszeniu Boga wysłanym do człowieka, z ofertą współpracy. To jest zaproszenie, które można przyjąć ale i można odrzucić, próbując różnych wymówek, których z pewnością mamy wiele. Każdy z nas ma przecież swoje wymówki, czy usprawiedliwienia. Mówiłem o tym w czasie mojej homili w ubiegłym tygodniu w języku angielskim. Chciałbym przytoczyć główne jej myśli, ponieważ bardzo dobrze ilustrują także dzisiejsze czytania. Mówiąc zatem o wymówkachusprawiedliwieniach warto popatrzeć na nie z dwóch powodów. Po pierwsze Bóg przez swoje słowo przypomina nam dzisiaj o obowiązku modlitwy o powołania do służby Bożej w Kościele. Wiedząc o tym, myślimy często o innych, albo o innych dziecku kogoś innego nie myślimy o naszych bliskich, o kimś z naszej rodzinie. Usprawiedliwamy się... Po drugie nasze usprawiedliwienia zwykle są przeciwne Bożej woli. Ale musimy mieć świadomość, że wcześniej czy później żadna wymówka nie będzie działać wtedy kiedy staniemy przed samym Bogiem. Co wtedy wymyślimy, żeby usprawiedliwić siebie, że nie słuchaliśmy Boga, tylko wybraliśmy inną drogę? Czy pójście za Jezusem w dzisiejszym świecie drogą powołania kapłańskiego czy zakonnego jest łatwe? Nie! Czy bycie chrześcijaninem w dzisiejszym świecie jest łatwe? Nie! Ale naszym zadaniem jest wierność powołaniu, którym nas Bóg obdarzył. Mimo tego nawet, że możemy to powołanie wypełnić lub nie i to zależy od nas. A droga powołania jest bardzo różna dla większości z nas jest droga życia małżeńskiego, potem powołanie do bycia rodzicami, także do życia samotnego i również powołanie do kapłaństwa czy życia zakonnego. Którąkolwiek drogę wybraliśmy bądźmy pewni to Boża droga idźmy nią. Bóg woła, a my odpowiadamy bez wymówek, jak Apostołowie. Możemy zadać pytanie gdzie bylibyśmy, jak wyglądałby świat, gdyby Samuel, Szymon Piotr, Andrzej, Jakub, Jan czy też nasi święci i błogosławieni powiedzieli Bogu Nie! wyciągając całą listę usprawiedliwień i poszli swoją drogą, nie słuchając Boga? A zatem nie usprawiedliwiajmy się! Niech Bóg mówi, a my odpowiedzmy z ufnością, że kiedy Jezus nas prowadzi to zawsze jest to właściwa droga. Z wdzięczną pamięcią w modlitwie, ks. A NEW DAY DAWNS Today we hear how Jonah, sent by God to warn the people, storms through the streets of Nineveh, scaring the citizens out of their wits. And it works! God has a change of heart, seeing by their actions how the people turn from evil (Jonah 3:10). A new day dawns. Next we hear Paul telling the Corinthians, The world in its present form is passing away (1 Corinthians 7:31). He calls for a change of heart. Stopping short of telling them to stop carrying out their everyday activities, he urges them rather mysteriously to live as though they aren t doing the things they are doing. A new day has dawned. Finally, Jesus stands on the shore and cries, The kingdom of God is at hand! (Mark 1:14). Simon and Andrew abandon their nets and even their father and follow him. A new day had dawned.
