23 RD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Niech będzie pochwalony Jezus Chrystus! Miło patrzeć na rozwój naszego sanktuarium. Udany był nasz festyn, dzisaj pragniemy dotrzeć do większej liczby osób, będąc obecnymi na International Festival w Peabody. Chcemy tam również zaistnieć, aby podać informacje o naszym kościele, jak i zaprezentować smak polskich pierogów. Odpowiadając na potrzeby duchowe Salem, szczególnie w październiku, chcemy za pomocą egzorcysty z Alabamy pokazać, w jaki sposób powinniśmy odpowiadać na zakusy Złego. Ktoś powiedział, że rzeczywiscie stajemy sie sanktuarium, bo nowi ludzie, turyści, poszukujący ciszy modlitewnej, trafiają na Eucharystię lub chwilę adoracji w ciągu dnia. Cieszę się również ze stałej grupy osób, odwiedzających nasze sanktuarium w tygodniu, jak i w niedzielę. Myślę, że czuć pewien rodzaj więzi, gdy pozdrawiamy się nawzajem, gdy pytamy się jeden o drugiego, gdy czasem kogoś nie widać przez chwilę w kościele. Jest to bardzo miłe i przypomina trochę tę pierwszą wspólnotę z Dziejów Apostolskich. Gromadzi nas Chrystus pełen miłosierdzia, abyśmy ten dar od Niego czerpali, jak i obdarowywali się nim nawzajem. Ks. Robert Będziński 12 września Najświętszego Imienia Maryi Imię Maryi czcimy w Kościele w sposób szczególny, ponieważ należy ono do Matki Boga, Królowej nieba i ziemi, Matki miłosierdzia. Dzisiejsze wspomnienie - "imieniny" Matki Bożej - przypominają nam o przywilejach nadanych Maryi przez Boga i wszystkich łaskach, jakie otrzymaliśmy od Boga za Jej pośrednictwem i wstawiennictwem, wzywając Jej Imienia. Zgodnie z wymogami Prawa mojżeszowego, w piętnaście dni po urodzeniu dziecięcia płci żeńskiej odbywał się obrzęd nadania mu imienia (Kpł 12, 5). Według podania Joachim i Anna wybrali dla swojej córki za wyraźnym wskazaniem Bożym imię Maryja. Imię to posiada również kilkadziesiąt znaczeń. Najczęściej wymienia się "Mój Pan jest wielki". SEPTEMBER 8 TH, 2019 Praised be the Lord Jesus Christ! It s nice to see the development of our shrine. Our festival was successful, and we want to reach more people by being present at the International Festival in Peabody. We also want to appear there to provide information about our church and to present the taste of Polish dumplings. Responding to the spiritual needs of Salem, especially in October, we want to - with the help of an exorcist from Alabama explain how we should respond to the snares of the Evil. Someone has said that we are indeed becoming a sanctuary because new people and tourists seeking silence, find their way to the Eucharist or a moment of adoration during the day. I am also happy with the regular group of people visiting our shrine during the week and on Sunday. I think we feel a kind of bond when we greet each other, when we ask for one another, sometimes when we don't see someone in the church for a while. It is very nice and reminds me a little of this first community of the Acts of the Apostles. We are gathered by Christ, full of mercy, that we may receive this gift from Him and give it to each other. Fr. Robert Będziński The Most Holy Name of the Blessed Virgin Mary September 12th This feast is a counterpart to the Feast of the Holy Name of Jesus; both have the possibility of uniting people easily divided on other matters. The feast of the Most Holy Name of Mary began in Spain in 1513 and in 1671 was extended to all of Spain and the Kingdom of Naples. In 1683, John Sobieski, king of Poland, brought an army to the outskirts of Vienna to stop the advance of Muslim armies loyal to Mohammed IV of Constantinople. After Sobieski entrusted himself to the Blessed Virgin Mary, he and his soldiers thoroughly defeated the Muslims. Pope Innocent XI extended this feast to the entire Church.

Marriage Convalidation Ceremony with Bishop Mark O Connell Are you or someone close to you married but not with the blessing of the Church? Would you like to be married by a bishop? Bishop Mark O Connell has organized a group wedding, for those in the North Region of the Archdiocese of Boston, on Friday, October 4th at 6:00 pm at Saint Anthony of Padua Parish, 250 Revere Street, Revere. The ceremony will be designed for couples not married in the Church to validate their marriages before Bishop O Connell. During the wedding ceremony, each couple will say their vows separately before him and their two witnesses. Patriot Day falls on September 11 th (also commonly known as Nine-Eleven ) and is remembered globally as the anniversary of the catastrophic terrorist attacks on the USA of the 11 th of September 2001. Patriot Day is recognized by US law as the official day of remembrance for these tragic events, and has been observed every year since. Each year on this day, American flags are flown at half-staff to honor and commemorate those lives lost. The US President asks fellow Americans to observe a moment of silence at 8:46am (EDT) the time of the first plane collision into the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

The Exaltation of the Holy Cross Early in the fourth century, Saint Helena, mother of the Roman Emperor Constantine, went to Jerusalem in search of the holy places of Christ s life. She razed the second-century Temple of Aphrodite, which tradition held was built over the Savior s tomb, and her son built the Basilica of the Holy Sepulcher on that spot. During the excavation, workers found three crosses. Legend has it that the one on which Jesus died was identified when its touch healed a dying woman. The cross immediately became an object of veneration. At a Good Friday celebration in Jerusalem toward the end of the fourth century, according to an eyewitness, the wood was taken out of its silver container and placed on a table together with the inscription Pilate ordered placed above Jesus head: Then all the people pass through one by one; all of them bow down, touching the cross and the inscription, first with their foreheads, then with their eyes; and, after kissing the cross, they move on. To this day, the Eastern Churches, Catholic and Orthodox alike, celebrate the Exaltation of the Holy Cross on the September anniversary of the basilica s dedication. The feast entered the Western calendar in the seventh century after Emperor Heraclius recovered the cross from the Persians, who had carried it off in 614, 15 years earlier. According to the story, the emperor intended to carry the cross back into Jerusalem himself, but was unable to move forward until he took off his imperial garb and became a barefoot pilgrim. Podwyższenie Krzyża Świętego 14 września, Święto, które na celu ma podkreślenie tajemnicy Krzyża, na którym zawisło Zbawienie świata. Przed reformą kalendarza, jaka miała miejsce po Soborze Watykańskim Drugim, obchodzono dwa święta: 3. maja jako święto Znalezienia Krzyża Świętego i 14. września - święto Podwyższenia Krzyża Świętego. Po reformie pozostawiono jedynie święto wrześniowe lącząc niejako w jedno zarówno znalezienie i podwyższenie. Kościół w Krzyżu Jezusa widział zawsze ołtarz, na którym Syn Boży dokonał zbawienia świata. Dlatego każda jego cząstka, tak obficie zroszona Jego Najświętszą Krwią, doznawała zawsze szczególnej czci. O odnalezieniu ukrytego Krzyża rozpowszechniona tradycja wskazuje na św. Helenę, matkę Konstantyna Wielkiego. Podaje się, iż odnaleziony Krzyż miał wskrzesić, poprzez kontakt bezpośredni, jakiegoś nieznanego zmarłego. Wskazuje się także na św. Helenę, jako mającą udział w zbudowaniu dwu bazylik w Jerozolimie, z których to poświęceniem związano święto odnalezienia Krzyża. Podaje się także, iż pielgrzymi w radości z jego odnalezienia brali udział w podwyższeniu Drzewa Krzyża, które polegało na podnoszeniu go w czterech miejscach świątyni dla adoracji ludu. Tak właśnie pojawiło się wrześniowe święto, a ugruntowało się jeszcze bardziej, gdy cesarz bizantyjski Herakliusz po pokonaniu Persów (wcześniej zdobyli Jerozolimę i zabrali Relikwie do Persji) odzyskał Relikwię Krzyża i osobiście wniósł ją do Jerozolimy. Pamiątkę tego wydarzenia, które było ponownym podwyższeniem Krzyża, obchodzono corocznie 14. września. Święto to przypomina nam wielkie znaczenie krzyża jako symbolu chrześcijaństwa i uświadamia, że nie możemy go traktować jedynie jako elementu dekoracji naszego mieszkania, miejsca pracy czy jednego z wielu elementów naszego codziennego stroju. Musimy go adorować i szanować. ŚW. FAUSTYNA UCZENNICA JEZUSA SR. FAUSTINA " SCHOOLGIRL OF JESUS" 1513 + Dziś mi Jezus powiedział: Często nazywasz Mnie mistrzem swoim. Miłe to jest dla Mojego serca, ale nie zapominaj, uczennico Moja, że jesteś uczennicą mistrza ukrzyżowanego; to jedno słowo niech ci wystarczy. Ty wiesz, co się zawiera w krzyżu. 1628 + Podczas Mszy świętej ujrzałam Jezusa rozciągniętego na krzyżu - i powiedział mi: Uczennico Moja, miej wielką miłość do tych, którzy ci zadają cierpienie, czyń dobrze tym, którzy cię nienawidzą. - Odpowiedziałam: O mój Mistrzu, przecież Ty widzisz, że nie mam uczucia miłości dla nich, i to mnie martwi. - Jezus mi odpowiedział: Uczucie nie zawsze jest w twej mocy; poznasz po tym, czy masz miłość, jeżeli po doznanych przykrościach i przeciwnościach nie tracisz spokoju, ale modlisz się za tych, od których doznałaś cierpienia, i życzysz im dobrze. [...] 1685 + Dziś w czasie godziny świętej prosiłam Pana Jezusa, aby raczył mnie pouczyć o życiu wewnętrznym. - Jezus mi odpowiedział: Córko Moja, przestrzegaj wiernie tych słów, które ci powiem: nie ceń za wiele żadnej rzeczy zewnętrznej,.. Opuść sama siebie, a ustawicznie pozostawaj ze Mną. Wszystko Mi powierzaj, a nic nie czyń na swoją rękę, a będziesz zawsze w wielkiej swobodzie ducha, żadne okoliczności ani wypadki nie zdołają ci go zamącić. Niewiele zważaj na powiedzenia ludzkie, pozwól, niech cię każdy sądzi według swego upodobania. Nie tłumacz się, to ci nic nie zaszkodzi. Oddaj wszystko na pierwszy znak żądania, choćby to były rzeczy najpotrzebniejsze; nie proś o nic nie poradziwszy się Mnie. Pozwól, niech ci odbiorą nawet to, co ci się należy: uznanie, dobre imię; ponad to wszystko niech będzie wyższym duch twój. A tak wyzwolona ze wszystkiego spoczywaj przy sercu Moim, nie pozwól sobie zamącić spokoju niczym. Uczennico, rozważ słowa Moje, które ci powiedziałem. 1513. + Jesus said to me today, You often call Me your Master. This is pleasing to My Heart; but do not forget, My disciple, that you are a disciple of a crucified Master. Let that one word be enough for you. You know what is contained in the cross. 1628. + During Holy Mass, I saw Jesus stretched out on the Cross, and He said to me, My pupil, have great love for those who cause you suffering. Do good to those who hate you. I answered, O my Master, You see very well that I feel no love for them, and that troubles me. Jesus answered, It is not always within your power to control your feelings. You will recognize that you have love if, after having experienced annoyance and contradiction, you do not lose your peace, but pray for those who have made you suffer and wish them well... 1685.+ During Holy Hour today, I asked the Lord Jesus if He would deign to teach me about the spiritual life, Jesus answered me, My daughter, faithfully live up to the words which I speak to you. Do not value any external thing too highly,... Let go of yourself, and abide with Me continually. Entrust everything to Me and do nothing on your own, and you will always have great freedom of spirit. No circumstances or events will ever be able to upset you. Set little store on what people say. Let everyone judge you as they like. Do not make excuses for yourself, it will do you no harm. Give away everything at the first sign of a demand, even if they were the most necessary things. Do not ask for anything without consulting Me. Allow them to take away even what is due you respect, your good name let your spirit rise above all that. And so, set free from everything, rest close to My Heart, not allowing your peace to be disturbed by anything. My pupil, consider the words which I have spoken to you.

Saint John Paul II Shrine of Divine Mercy 28 St. Peter Street Salem, MA 01970 THE NEW ALTAR and IMPROVEMENTS IN OUR SHRINE Plans are underway for the new altar at our shrine. The Shrine has been blessed by the financial support from many donors. An amount of $60,000 has been raised to cover the cost of the altar. We also received a donation to cover the cost of the two images on either side of the altar. Currently the altar is being constructed in Poland and it will be sent here by ship. There s also an HVAC system in our plans to make the upper church more comfortable and also to fight with moisture in the upper church. We are also thinking about an elevator/lift to make our upper church available for everyone where the main altar with all the relics will be installed. We want it to be available for everyone so the next step is to make handicap bathrooms accessible. In the meantime, there is work to be done in preparation for the new altar. The masonry outside the church has been repaired as well as several small roof leaks. New gutters have been installed on the rectory. The inside walls behind the altar have been sealed and painted. The presbytery will have to be painted before the altar is installed. These repairs and renovations are costly and we need to raise funds for this purpose. You may also notice new insulated windows in the assembly room and the upper sacristy. These are a great improvement which will save on heating and cooling costs. There is also new fencing in front of the church. We are also in the process of looking to reopen our school building. This is a daunting task as the building needs major renovations. There are many men in the shrine community who have offered their time and skills to complete these projects. We would only have to pay for materials. In order to have heat and water in the school the pipes need to be repaired. The Archdiocese will cover this cost through insurance; however, we must have the asbestos covering the pipes removed. Asbestos removal is also necessary on the boiler and in the cafeteria. The second collections are presently held for this reason. I am grateful to those who, through spiritual and physical help, engage in the development of our church and school buildings. We wish to have the shrine attract many people who will find spiritual fulfillment and become disciples sharing the word of Christ to others.
