3 RD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Niech będziepochwalony Jezus Chrystus! Prośmy Boga o o dar otwartości i zaufania. JANUARY 27 TH, 2019 Praised be the Lord Jesus Christ! The presentation of the firstborn child, the first fruit of the earth, was very significant in Jewish culture, because it opened the next stage of life and, above all, the best of what was most beloved was given to God. Those given to God and accepted by Him bore fruits many times, as we can see in the life of Samson, Saint John the Baptist, or Jesus himself. The patron of our church also devoted himself voluntarily to Jesus through the hands of Mary according to the treatise of Saint Ludwic Grignon de Monfort. Some of us did it a year ago and we want to repeat it this year. Materials that prepare for this are available in English as well as Polish. Sometimes nowadays people are afraid to offer something to God, to believe that it will be accepted, that he will not be taken away. God, as the history of each of us shows, gives many times more. This is God - it multiplies the good that we offer to Him. By offering ourselves, our loved ones, our activities, we risk that God will want to lead them differently, according to his will. Let us ask God for the gift of openness and trust. Mary heard quite strong words; "And thy soul shall penetrate the sword, that the thoughts of the hearts of many shall come to light." (Lk 2, 34) Nevertheless, she was strong, because everything was arranged with God, as we remember, the Scriptures emphasizes - She has contemplated all these sprouts in her heart. Presentation of the Lord is about giving something to God. I would like to thank all of you for your prayers, sacrifices, donations, time and your care for our shrine Fr. Robert Będzinski O Maryjo, Matko Chrystusa i nasza Matko, dziękujemy Ci za troskę, z jaką towarzyszysz nam na drodze życia, i prosimy Cię: ofiaruj nas dziś na nowo Bogu, naszemu jedynemu Dobru, aby nasze życie oddane Miłości stało się ofiarą żywą, świętą i Jemu miłą. ********** Mary, Mother of Christ and our Mother, we thank you for the tender care with which you guide us on the ways of life, and we ask you: present us today anew to God, our only Good, so that our lives, consumed by love, may be a sacrifice that is living, holy, and pleasing to him. Amen! (Św. Jan Paweł II St. John Paul II)
3 RD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME February 2 Presentation of the Lord Known originally as the Feast of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin, the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord is a relatively ancient celebration. We know that the Church at Jerusalem was observing the feast as early as the first half of the fourth century, and likely earlier. According to Jewish law, the firstborn male child belonged to God, and the parents had to "buy him back" on the 40th day after his birth, by offering a sacrifice of "a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons" (Luke 2:24) in the temple (thus the "presentation" of the child). On that same day, the mother would be ritually purified (thus the "purification"). St. Mary and St. Joseph kept this law, even though, since St. Mary remained a virgin after the birth of Christ, she would not have had to go through ritual purification. In his gospel, Luke (2:22-39) recounts the story. Originally, the feast was celebrated on February 14, the 40th day after Epiphany (January 6), because Christmas wasn't yet celebrated as its own feast, and so the Nativity, Epiphany, the Baptism of the Lord (Theophany), and the feast celebrating Christ's first miracle at the wedding in Cana were all celebrated on the same day. By the last quarter of the fourth century, however, the Church at Rome had begun to celebrate the Nativity on December 25, so the Feast of the Presentation was moved to February 2, 40 days later. When Christ was presented in the temple, "there was a man in Jerusalem named Simeon, and this man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel." When St. Mary and St. Joseph brought Christ to the temple, Simeon embraced the Child and prayed the Canticle of Simeon: "Now thou dost dismiss thy servant, O Lord, according to thy word in peace; because my eyes have seen thy salvation, which thou hast prepared before the face of all peoples: a light to the revelation of the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel" (Luke 2:29-32). Because of the words of the canticle ("a light to the revelation of the Gentiles"), by the 11th century, the custom had developed in the West of blessing candles on the Feast of the Presentation. The candles were then lit, and a procession took place through the darkened church while the Canticle of Simeon was sung. Because of this, the feast also became known as Candlemas. While the procession and blessing of the candles is not often performed in the United States today, Candlemas is still an important feast in many European countries. JANUARY 27 TH, 2018 2 lutego Święto Ofiarowania Pańskiego Czterdziestego dnia po Bożym Narodzeniu, 2 lutego obchodzimy święto Ofiarowania Pańskiego, zwane popularnie świętem Matki Bożej Gromnicznej. Jest to pamiątka ofiarowania małego Chrystusa w świątyni jerozolimskiej. Zgodnie z Prawem Mojżeszowym rodzice musieli poświęcić każdego pierworodnego chłopca Panu. Aby móc z powrotem zabrać syna do domu, wykonywano tzw. obrzęd wykupienia łączony z oczyszczeniem matki dziecka. Wypowiedział on bowiem słowa: Teraz o Panie pozwól odejść swemu słudze w pokoju, według słowa Twojego, bo moje oczy ujrzały Twoje zbawienie, któreś przygotował wobec wszystkich narodów, Światło na oświecenie pogan i chwałę Ludu Twego, Izraela. Gromnice wkładano także w dłonie umierających, by światło świecy prowadziło duszę konającego do Chrystusa.
Message from Bishop Mark. Catholic Schools Week begins January 27th! This year s theme is Catholic Schools: Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed. For Catholics learning is not simply informational but formational. Catholic education invites young people to view the world and all its wonders through a vision of faith: to learn why God made the world, us and for what purpose each one has been put on this earth. Our Catholic schools can freely speak of science in connection to our faith which is increasingly important in our world that demands separation of the two. The Catholic vision for humanity fosters lasting values that build personhood and character. We are grateful to all our parishes for contributing to making this a viable opportunity here in the North Region. In the North Region, we have 18 elementary schools, 3 middle & high schools combined and 4 high schools. This past September, there was a very promising sign in the region when Malden Catholic opened its School for Girls. All of these schools enhance opportunities for our youngest members and are a tremendous place of faith and learning that I hope all our parishes support. The theme for National Catholic Schools Week 2019 is Catholic Schools: Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed. During the week schools typically celebrate with Masses, open houses, and other activities for students, families, parishioners, and community members. Through these events, schools focus on the value Catholic education provides young people and its contributions to our church, our communities and our nation. Support our schools! Encourage enrollment in our Catholic Schools in the North Region! For more information, visit www.catholicschoolsboston.org. May God grant you his peace. +Mark O Connell, Regional Bishop for the North Shore.
THE NEW ALTAR IN OUR SHRINE
Dreams and plans for a new altar for our shrine have begun to be finalized. Within a short time, we were able to raise $ 40,000. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all Donors and Sponsors for the financial and prayer support, so far. God bless those who have made offerings and those who, on a weekly basis, pass them on for the reconstruction of the altar. I am grateful to those who, through spiritual and physical help, engage in the development of our sanctuary and attract other kind people, institutions and companies to continue this work. Before we set up our altar, however, we must: seal the holes in the masonry outside, remove the fungal spots at the presbytery and paint the walls by the presbytery. We are in the process of looking for contractors and the costs of these works. I hope that soon we will have the information we need and we will raise funds for this purpose. Thank you again for your kindness and support. Please contact: Rector of the Shrine, Fr.
