For they all contributed out of their abundance; but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, her whole living. Jesus gets right to the point we are all called to give money to support the mission of the Church, regardless of our circumstance. No gift is too small or insignificant! Giving money to support the mission of our local parish is a matter of our faith, just like praying and participating in parish ministries. When you make a financial offering, is it from your first fruits or from what is left over? THIRTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME November 8, 2015 The LORD keeps faith forever, secures justice for the oppressed, give food to the hungry. -Psalm 146:7 GIVING ALL Trusting widows play a significant role in this weekend s readings. At the point of poverty, when giving even the smallest amount of what they had could imperil their health and well-being, they trusted God and gave anyway. What is important about their giving is not what or how much they gave, but how they gave it. Without selfishness, they gave to help others. Their giving was from the heart, with little hope or intention of receiving any sort of reward or recognition for their generosity. The monetary values of the widows gifts were small, but their value measured in the Kingdom was priceless. There is a significant similarity between their gift and the gift Jesus gave each of us. The widows offered their lives for God. Jesus offered his life for us. The second collection this weekend is for Higher Utility and Energy Costs. STEWARDSHIP This weekend we welcome Michael Gillespie, Director of Stewardship and Development from the Diocese of Worcester. The concept of stewardship is deeply personal, spiritual and rooted in scripture and Tradition of the Church. The parish is a community of faith which is concerned with the spiritual development, personal relationship with Jesus Christ and service to one another. At the same time a parish is a visible community with necessary property which requires our support. During the octave of All Soul s Day we see that we truly own only the things we give away. Each one of us like the first Christian Community is endowed with a special gift which requires worshiping God, sharing the Gospel and serving God and each other.
Knights of Columbus - will be at the entrances of our Basilica this weekend as they continue their 2015 Annual Thanksgiving Turkey Drive to help the less fortunate in our community. They are grateful for your kindness and thoughtfulness. COLUMBARIUM UPGRADE As you may have noticed, we have removed the discolored and chipped bricks which were popular when the columbarium was erected in the 90 s. Due to the New England weather and its harsh elements, the bricks lost their sheen and luster. The surface is now covered with new stones which will serve St. Joseph Garden of Peace for years to come with a distinctive esthetic appearance where the ashes of our departed loved ones await resurrection. We ask your cooperation to keep this newly modernized area neat and uncluttered in respect for our deceased family members. They gave from their surplus wealth, but she gave from her want, all that she had to live on. Page 4 DONATIONS St. Joseph Basilica - we are extremely grateful to Theodore and Helen Dawicki for their very generous donation of $10,000 for the needs of our Basilica. Mr. & Mrs. Dawicki also donated the John Paul II statue set on the rectory lawn that so beautifully balances the parish grounds and serves as a perpetual reminder of the holiness of St. John Paul II. Many people who visit the Basilica pray before the statue or sit and meditate. It is the only statue of St. John Paul II in the Diocese. May they be rewarded for their goodness of heart and dedication to St. Joseph Basilica. (Ps 146, 7) Trudno jest zrezygnować ze swoich praw i oddać coś, co uważamy za swoją własność, nawet gdy skłania nas ku temu sumienie. Słowo Boże głosi dziś pochwałę dwóch ubogich wdów, hojnie obdarowujących Boga i ludzi tym, co posiadały. Takiej postawy uczy nas również sam Jezus, który ofiarował samego siebie dla zgładzenia naszych grzechów. Obyśmy przyjmując Go w Eucharystii, nie rezygnowali z Jego aprobaty, pokoju, bliskości dla drobiazgów niewartych więcej niż garść mąki, kropla oliwy czy dwa drobne pieniążki.
