Reflecting on the Gospel reading of the day which focuses on the Beatitudes, Pope Francis described them as a program, the identity card of a Christian. If you ask yourself how to become a good Christian, this is where you can find Jesus answer, an answer he said - that points to an attitude that is currently very much against the tide: Blessed are the poor in spirit. Wealth Francis pointed out offers no guarantee, in fact he continued when the heart is rich and self-satisfied, it has no place for the Word of God: Blessed are they who mourn for they will be comforted. The world tells us that happiness, joy and entertainment are the best things in life. And it looks the other way when there are problems of disease or pain in the family. The world does not want to suffer, it prefers to ignore painful situations, to cover them up. Only the person who sees things as they are, and whose heart mourns, will be happy and will be comforted. Thanks to the consolation of Jesus, not to that of the world. Blessed are the meek in this world which is filled with wars, arguments, hatred. And Jesus says: no war, no hatred. Peace and meekness. Pope Francis continued saying if you are meek in life, people will think you are not clever. Let them think that he said but you are meek because with this meekness you will inherit the Earth. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness. It is so easy the Pope observed to become part of the corrupt and referred to that daily approach of do ut des. Everything is business. How much injustice does that approach cause he noted and how many people suffer because of injustice. And Jesus says: Blessed are they who fight against injustice. Blessed are the merciful for they will be shown mercy. The merciful the Pope said those who forgive and understand the mistakes of others. Jesus he pointed out does not say blessed are they who seek revenge. Blessed are they who forgive, who are merciful. Because we are all part of an army of people who have been forgiven! We have all been forgiven. That is why blessed is he who undertakes this path of forgiveness. Blessed are the pure of heart, they who have a simple, pure heart without dirt, a heart that knows how to love with purity. Blessed are peace-makers. But it is so common amongst us to be war-makers or perpetrators of misunderstandings! When I hear something from one person, and I go and say it to someone else in a second, enlarged, edition the world of gossip. People who gossip, who do not make peace, are enemies of peace. They are not blessed. Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness. How many people Pope Francis said have been persecuted, and continue to be persecuted simply for having fought for justice. And recalling the Beatitudes, the Pope pointed out that they represent a program for life offered to us by Jesus : So simple and yet so difficult. And he said: if we are searching for more, Jesus gives us other indications as written in the Gospel according to Matthew, chapter 25: For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was ill and you cared for me, I was in prison and you visited me. With these two things the Beatitudes and Matthew 25 one can live a holy, Christian life. Few words, simple words, but practical for all. Because Christianity is a practical religion: it is not just to be imagined, it is to be practiced. If you have some time at home today, take the Gospel, Matthew s Gospel, chapter five. At the beginning there are the Beatitudes; in chapter 25 the rest. And it will do you good to read them once, twice, three times. Read this program for holiness. May the Lord give us the grace to understand his message.

The three local Polish parishes are all gearing up for the 2014 season as we speak, all scheduled for the first weekends of the respective months as is customary. August 1,2,3: St. Casimir September (Labor Day weekend): St. John Cantius Cultural Gardens One World Festival: Sept. 13, 14th October 3,4,5: St. Stanislaus With regards to our festival we ask those who have helped in the past to consider helping again! Those who have not, we ask that you consider joining us this year! It requires a lot of hands and backs and patience, but it all benefits our parish. During the Summer please consider putting together gift baskets for our basket booth...this is always a great part of our fund-raising effort. LATEST MEMORIAL BRICKS INSTALLED The latest shipment of Peace garden Memorial Bricks has arrived and been installed this past week! Please take a stroll through the beautiful garden when you get the chance. The former Easter lilies are currently in full bloom...reminding us of the resurrection of all of our loved ones as well as our own. If you would like your name or that of your family to be included in this lovely garden please contact the rectory. The next installation will take place sometime in Autumn before the weather changes. It s a lovely way to memorialize your family in the garden next to the place they held (or, still hold) close to their hearts. MASS BOOK OPEN FOR 2015 The parish office is now accepting Mass intentions for 2015. The office staff are happy to encourage and accommodate Mass intentions as they come in. You can arrange for Masses either by coming in to the parish office between 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM Monday through Friday, or you can mail in your intentions and donations. If the date you request is already taken we will try to find the closest date to the one you request. When you make the request, please let us know if it is for someone who is deceased, or if this is a special intention. Finally, since so many people request Sunday Mass intentions, please try to limit your request for Sunday Masses to three, although weekday Masses are easier to schedule. Note, Mass some intentions for 2014 are still available too! This is obvious by the numerous empty spaces in this week s Mass intentions column. Please remember, the Mass intentions need not be solely for deceased loved ones or friends but may, likewise, be offered for the living. We see numerous special intentions peppered into the mix. We all know someone, even ourselves, who could benefit from this spiritual exercise. Is it your birthday? Have a Mass said! Are you going in for an operation? Have a Mass said! Would you like to wish Pope Francis a safe journey while in the Holy Land? Have a Mass said! Private intentions are endless...we can all benefit from prayers, most especially from the supreme prayer offered to God in the person of Jesus.
Jarzmo Jezusa Chrystusa Gdy jadę przez miasto tramwajem i przyglądam się współpasażerom, to najczęściej widzę zamyślone twarze odwrócone w kierunku okna. Nieliczni prowadzą rozmowę ze znajomymi, rzadko zdarza się, by na twarzy zagościł uśmiech. Dominuje biadolenie i narzekanie. Tak bez powodu, to śmieją się chyba tylko zakochani lub niespełna rozumu. Widzę bardzo wyraźnie (zwłaszcza w poniedziałek rano), że ludzi wokół mnie przygniata jakiś poważny ciężar pewnie są to obowiązki, problemy, choroby, niepokój o jutro. Żyję jednak w społeczeństwie, gdzie ponad 90% populacji przyjęło chrzest i deklaruje się jako chrześcijanie katolicy. Czy wiara w Boga nie jest w stanie rozwiązać tych przygniatających człowieka problemów? Czy Pan Bóg jest za mały? Czy wiara jest za słaba? Wielu chrześcijan uważa, że wiara a przede wszystkim jej moralne konsekwencje to kolejny życiowy ciężar. Trzeba przestrzegać przykazań, nie jeść mięsa w piątek, zrezygnować z zabaw tego dnia, chodzić do kościoła w niedzielę trzeba, trzeba, trzeba. To bardzo utrudnia życie. Czy nie jest tak, że przyjemniej i wygodniej żyje się człowiekowi, który wierzy, ale nie praktykuje? Taki sposób myślenia jest bardzo częsty, jeśli nie powszechny. A przecież Dobra Nowina o miłości Boga do człowieka sprawiała, że poganie, którzy ją słyszeli krzyczeli z radości. Sprawiała, że bogacze porzucali swoje majątki, rozdawali dobra ubogim, byli gotowi na dalekie wędrówki misyjne a nawet śmierć męczeńską dla Chrystusa. Dlaczego dziś Dobra Nowina przestała być dobrą nowiną a stała się kolejnym ciężarem? Przyczyn zapewne jest wiele, ale dla nas dzisiaj ważniejsze jest to, by odkryć prawdę słów Chrystusa: Jarzmo moje jest słodkie, a moje brzemię lekkie. Ewangelia, która jest możliwa do przyjęcia i wprowadzenia w życie dla każdego ochrzczonego określonego jako prostaczek, to słowo, które zbawia. Można powiedzieć, że to ciężar, który sam się niesie i jeszcze niesie nas. Jeśli słowa Jezusa potraktujemy serio, to doświadczymy tego, że Dobra Nowina realnie rozwiązuje nasze codzienne problemy, czyli że nas zbawia. Chociażby to dzisiejsze słowo: Przyjdźcie do mnie wszyscy, którzy utrudzeni i obciążeni jesteście a ja was pokrzepię. Ile to już razy z naszymi problemami najpierw długo chodziliśmy dusząc je w sobie, potem może wykrzyczeliśmy komuś bliskiemu w przypływie gniewu, może próbowaliśmy je rozwiązywać szukając pomocy u innych ludzi, ale czy zwróciliśmy się z wiarą do Boga. Może nam się wydawać, że Wszechmogący Bóg ma ważniejsze sprawy na głowie niż mój ból zęba, brak pieniędzy na utrzymanie, kłótnia małżeńska czy problemy z dziećmi. A jednak Jezus Chrystus, który zna Ojca objawił całym swoim życiem Boga, który jest zatroskany o wszystkie potrzeby człowieka. Takie patrzenie na Stwórcę i taka relacja z Nim sprawia, że wiara nie jest już tylko odświętnym ubraniem, ale codziennym chlebem. Wiara jest jak ten podstawowy pokarm, bez którego najlepsze przysmaki nie cieszą podniebienia. Jednym z ważnych znaków nawiązania głębokiej relacji z Panem Bogiem jest łagodność i pokora, o której również słyszymy w dzisiejszej Ewangelii. Takie postawy życiowe upewniają nas o obecności w człowieku Ducha Świętego, który dodaje sił i uskrzydla. Problemy codzienności nie znikają, ale pokrzepienie, które daje wiara sprawia, że możemy je skutecznie rozwiązywać i z uśmiechem przyjmować nawet porażki. autor: ks.
