Beloved parishioners and friends, In his book, The Four Signs of a Dynamic Catholic, Ma hew Kelly throws at us shocking facts. Only 7% of American Catholics are ac vely involved in the life of the Church; 80% of all dona ons come from them. These are so called ac ve Catholics who take care of the church and do much good for others. The fact that only 7% of Catholics are ac vely involved in the church can be spiritually discouraging, but looking at what these 7% can do in the Church can amaze us. The church does immense charity works in the world; it helps the immigrants, runs schools, universi es and hospitals, supports missionary work, helps the poorest of the poor, and behind that there is only 7% of ac ve Catholics. Can you imagine if there were 10 or 20 percent of Catholics ac vely involved? For sure, they would transform the world and make it a be er place to live. The Catholic Church is a sleeping giant, if it wakes up the whole world would feel it. The ques on is, however, how to wake up the 93% sleeping Catholics? How to make them engaged and mo vate them to crea vity and ac on? We should all ponder upon this ques on. The Annual Catholic Appeal is around the corner. Thanks to our contribu ons we support catholic schools, parishes, educa on and spiritual forma on. We also help to promote life, peace and jus ce in the world. We help those who suffer because of cataclysms, wars and social upheavals. I would like to encourage you to ac vely and generously par cipate in the campaign. Each parish has to contribute 6% of its annual collec on. The goal that has been set for us this year is $18,986.00. Last year, we not only reached the goal but we exceeded it by almost $9,000.00, which was sent back to us for the support of our parish. All this, means that our parish is alive and well and it can face the obliga ons which we have to meet as a community of believers. Next week we will fill out our Annual Catholic Appeal pledges. I would like to thank you for your generosity and ask you to show it again this year. I believe that we will meet the goal again and thus express our care for the well-being of the Church. A co dopiero, gdybyśmy mieli 10% albo 20% aktywnych katolików na świecie?. Świat uległby całkowitemu przeobrażeniu. Kościół katolicki ma ogromny potencjał. Jest to śpiący gigant, który jeśli się obudzi, to świat zadrży. Pytanie, jak obudzić 93% śpiących katolików? Jak ich zaangażować, jak rozbudzić w nich motywację do działania? To pytane powinni sobie stawiać wszyscy, którym zależy na Ewangelii Chrystusa i dobru Jego Kościoła. Zbliża się doroczna kwesta Katolicka. Doroczna kwesta wspiera szkoły katolickie, parafie, edukację religijną, formację duszpasterską oraz liczne inicjatywy mające na celu obronę życia, utrzymanie pokoju oraz sprawiedliwości. Nasza Kwesta wspiera wszystkich, których życie zostało zdewastowane przez choroby, wojny, głód, kataklizmy i klęski żywiołowe. Zachęcam was kochani, do aktywnego włączenia się w tą kampanię. Każda parafia ma za zadanie zebranie 6% łącznej kwoty z rocznych składek niedzielnych. Naszej parafii wyznaczono w tym roku kwotę do zebrania w wysokości 18.986 dolarów. W ubiegłym roku nie tylko, że osiągnęliśmy wyznaczony cel i zebraliśmy ustaloną wówczas dla nas kwotę, ale przekroczyliśmy ją prawie o 9 tysięcy. Przekroczone nadwyżki zostały zwrócone naszej parafii i przeznaczone na parafialne potrzeby. Świadczy to o tym, że nasza parafia żyje i jest w stanie sprostać stawianym jej wymaganiom. Za tydzień będziemy wypełniać i składać do kopert nasze zobowiązania. Dziękując wam za waszą dotychczasową hojność, proszę was także o równie hojne serca w tym roku. Wierzę, że przekroczymy wyznaczoną nam kwotę dając w ten sposób wyraz naszej troski o dobro i przyszłość kościoła. ART AND VIDEO CONTEST TO HONOR UP- COMING CANONIZATION - JOHN PAUL II The Office of Mission Education for the New Evangelization, under the patronage of Francis Cardinal George, OMI, Archbishop of Chicago, and Most Rev. Andrew P. Wypych, Auxiliary Bishop of Chicago, invites students to take part in an arts competition "John Paul II: True Missionary Saint". The aim of the competition is to pay tribute to Blessed John Paul II, who was Pope between 1978 and 2005, as well as demonstrate to children and teens his pilgrimages and missionary work as Pope. Winter doldrums setting in? Looking for something different for Friday night dinner? We may have the answer and a way for you to benefit our school at the same time. Join us on Friday, February 28th at Bakers Square, 3649 N. Harlem Ave., between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. and our school will receive 10% of all sales generated. Best of all, carry-out orders also qualify! Students from first through twelfth grades are encouraged to create an original, hand-made poster, drawing, or painting that depicts the life of Pope John Paul II as a pilgrim who traveled the world. Older students in grades 5 through 12 can chose to create a two to five minute video that tells the story of how John Paul made more pilgrimages than any other Pope, how he supported and worked with missionaries, or what his message was for the world. Parish Office Holiday Schedule The Parish Office/Rectory will be closed Monday, February 17th, President s Day. The office will open on Tuesday February 18th following regular office hours. Pączki Sale Next, February 23rd, St. Ladislaus Polish Club is holding their Annual Pączki Sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Church Hall. Coffee and tea are also available in the Hall so you will have an opportunity to sit and enjoy your sweets in the company of fellow parishioners. All proceeds are for the benefit of St. Ladislaus Parish. This past weekend we received $9,457.00 in donations to our organ fund. We want to express special thanks to two individuals, both of whom want to remain anonymous, but who donated $5,000 and $1,000 respectively. These two sizeable donations, along with our second collection total over the weekend, brought our Amount Collected To Date to $35,411.77. We are now more than 75% to our goal of $46,000.00 only $10,588.23 to go! We want to thank everyone for their generosity and be assured that you are included in our prayers, especially at our Wednesday Masses for all benefactors of St. Ladislaus Parish. 2014 ARCHDIOCESAN ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL You are the temple of God (1 Corinthians 3:16) Please spend some time this week reflecting on the Annual Catholic Appeal brochure that you received with your bulletin. Meet the Lord in Eucharistic Adoration. Eucharistic Adoration takes place in our parish every Tuesday beginning after the 8:15 a.m. English Mass. Nightfever "Conquer the Night" Saturday, February 22 The Vocations Office and the Young Adult Ministry Office invite you to join Chicago Catholics at Holy Name Cathedral, State and Superior Streets in Chicago, for a Mass with Bishop Alberto Rojas at 7:30 p.m. Nightfever will begin at 9 p.m. after the Mass.
