2006 7. A range of very important non-accelerator experiments take place at the overlap between particle and astroparticle physics exploring otherwise inaccessible phenomena; Council will seek to work with ApPEC to develop a coordinated strategy in these areas of mutual interest. 6. Studies of the scientific case for future neutrino facilities and the R&D into associated technologies are required to be in a position to define the optimal neutrino programme based on the information available in around 2012; Council will play an active role in promoting a coordinated European participation in a global neutrino programme. 2008 Council is therefore invited to approve the following proposals: 1) A representative of the ApPEC Steering Committee is invited to attend the European Strategy Sessions of Council with the right to take the floor; 2) The Chairman of the ApPEC Peer Review Committee may be invited to participate in the Secretariat s preparation of the European Strategy Sessions, where this is considered desirable to prepare topics and issues that are of mutual interest toappec and the European Strategy Sessions of Council; 3)This arrangement shall be in place until the next Strategy Update, on the understanding that a first assessment will be made after the September 2009 European Strategy Session of Council. A.Zalewska, Astrofizyka cząstek w 2008 2011 A Joint CERN-APPEC Workplan for the Period until the Next Update of the European Strategy for Particle Physics (2011-2012) Motywacja: The physics goals of astroparticle physics experiments are often closely related and are complementary to the central goals of the accelerator-based experiments. Furthermore, the technical problems encountered by and solutions identified for astroparticle physics experiments are similar to those in accelerator-based experiments, and certain underground astroparticle physics experiments are also potential receivers of long-baseline neutrino beams produced by accelerator-based facilities. Several CERN recognised experiments are in the area of astroparticle physics.
2008 2011 Wspólne obszary tematyczne: a common CERN-ApPEC theory programme; CERN/ApPEC common outreach activities; common R&D calls and more generally CERN s participation in ASPERA where CERN is a partner; CERN s participation in and support for future projects in the area of astroparticle physics; common activities in the area of technology and knowledge transfer. 2008 2013 Zebranie w Erice, 20-26.01, draft dokumentu zawierającego sformułowania zaktualizowanej strategii, do dyskusji podczas zebrania Rady CERNu 22.03.2013, uroczyste zatwierdzenie podczas specjalnego posiedzenia Rady w Brukseli w dniu 30.05.2013 j) A range of important non-accelerator experiments take place at the overlap of particle and astroparticle physics, such as searches for proton decay, neutrinoless double beta decay and dark matter, and the study of high-energy cosmic-rays. These experiments address fundamental questions beyond the Standard Model of particle physics. The exchange of information between CERN and ApPEC has progressed since 2006. In the coming years, CERN should seek a closer collaboration with ApPEC on detector R&D with a view to maintaining the community s capability for unique projects in this field.
