Today active interventions or omissions of basic care are proposed for ending the lives not only of the dying, but also patients suffering from a long-term cognitive disability, such as advanced dementia...some argue that patients who cannot consciously respond have lost their human dignity. This view is dangerously wrong: Human beings never lose their dignity, that is, their inherent and inestimable worth as unique persons loved by God and created in His image. People can be denied respect affirming that dignity, but they never lose their God-given dignity. Respect Life Program (2010) TWENTY-EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME October 10, 2010 If we have died with (Christ Jesus) we shall also live with Him; If we persevere we shall also reign with Him. 2 Timothy 2:11-12a God Revealed to the Nations. Our extended lesson in discipleship continues this weekend with a focus on the centrality of thanksgiving to the Christian life. We hear stories of foreigners who experience the healing, cleansing power of the God of Israel and give he Lord thanks. In today s episode from the book of Kings the prophet Elisha cures a foreigner named Naaman of his leprosy. Naaman returns to thank Elisha and pledges to worship only the God of Israel from that day forward. The Gospel presents the story of the cleansing of ten lepers. It is the Samaritan also a foreigner who returns to give Jesus thanks and give God glory and praise. The Lord has revealed to the nations his saving power, sings the psalmist. Sing joyfully to the Lord. Sing praise (Psalm 98:2,4). The second collection this weekend is directed toward the Utility and Energy Costs The second collection next weekend is the Annual Collection for the Propagation of the Faith PROPAGATION OF THE FAITH Next weekend all the parishes in the Diocese of Worcester will take the Annual Collection for the Propagation of the Faith. Bishop McManus writes...all Catholics have the opportunity to fulfill their baptismal responsibility for sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ through their active participation in the efforts of the four Pontifical Mission Societies: The Society for the Propagation of the Faith, the Holy Childhood Association, the Society of St. Peter Apostle and the Missionary Union of Priests and Religious. The first three of these societies seek prayer, sacrifice and financial support for the Church s missionary work, and provide financial assistance for the pastoral and evangelizing programs of the Church in Africa, Asia, the islands of the Pacific and remote regions of Latin America...I urge all in our diocesan family to share in the work of evangelization, offering your prayers and sacrifices for the Church s missionary efforts. Your generosity in this collection next weekend will nurture the lives and faith of our brothers and sisters in 1,100 mission dioceses. It will also be a source of blessing for our own Diocese as we place evangelization at the heart of our life as Church. CANDLELIGHT PROCESSION This Wednesday, October 13 th, the final service this year in honor of Our Lady of Fatima will be held at 7 p.m. with an outdoor procession and praying the rosary. We kindly invite all parishioners and friends to join us and offer their special petitions to our Blessed Mother. Reminder: The rosary will be prayed in our Basilica every Sunday in October following the 11 a.m. Mass; and every Wednesday and Friday (bilingual) at 7 p.m.; on Tuesdays and Thursdays (bilingual) at 6:30 p.m. at St. Andrew Bobola Church.

The program, Sharing our Blessings, is an opportunity to address the most pressing needs in many parishes across the diocese, including St. Joseph, to increase our Sunday offertory. The subsequent correspondence will provide you with a detailed explanation of this timely and important opportunity to take personal responsibility for your parish. Each week this space in the bulletin will be devoted to reminders and important announcements concerning Sharing Our Blessings. HOLY ROSARY SODALITY Thank you to Betty Meagher for the beautiful flower arrangement in front of the Blessed Mother statue for the annual Mass for deceased members of the Holy Rosary Sodality celebrated last Sunday. ST. JOSEPH POLISH WOMEN S CLUB The monthly meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria. This meeting will include the installation of new members and the traditional Silver Tea. We encourage and, in fact, urge St. Joseph parish women to join this distinguished organization that provides support and financial assistance to many projects, especially technology. One of the many benefits is the Scholarship for children of members who will be attending a Catholic high school or St. Joseph School. The guest speaker for the evening will be Cindi Gardner, who will speak on Breast Cancer Awareness a timely topic for all women. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and we are requesting that members attending the meeting wear a pink article of clothing. Hostess for the evening is Judi Dery. October 17-8 a.m. Confirmation Class On Monday, October 25 th, Religious Education Classes will take place in the church from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Msgr. James Moroney will present the few adjustment and slight changes for the celebration of Divine Worship. Msgr. Moroney is the former Director of the Office of Divine Worship at USCCB in Washington, D.C. and is providing lectures to the dioceses across the country. In his busy schedule he is available only on that Monday for St. Joseph parish. This is a special opportunity to learn the essence of the Eucharist which creates the Church and sustains its faithful. If someone from the parishioners would like to take advantage of this unique opportunity are more than welcome. All Saints Family Event. Following in the Footprints of the Saints will be held on Wednesday, October 27 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the school. All parish families are invited to walk with the saints. Have fun and win prizes! Youth Mass. On Sunday, October 24 the Confirmation Class is sponsoring the Youth Liturgy and is inviting all young people from the parish to join them at the 9:30 a.m. Mass. The celebrant and homilist for this liturgy is Rev. Zygas from the Immaculate Conception Monastery in Putnam. We kindly ask parishioners to remind their youngsters about this special Mass for young people. CATHOLIC YOUTH GROUP Wii Bowling at Christopher Heights contest with the residents will take place on Tuesday, October 12 th from 6-7:30 p.m. If interested in participating, please contact Mrs. Valcour. Film Gospel Skit. We will film the Gospel skit for the October Youth Mass on Friday, October 15 th from 5-8 p.m. in the Youth Center. Pizza will be provided for all who participate.
