The subject that was discussed in the wrk is significant, innvative and tpical. The Eurpean Unin has perfrmed research in the directin f limiting energy cnsumptin in the cnstructin sectr fr many years. It is estimated that arund 40% f the entire energy cnsumptin f Eurpean cuntries is energy cnsumed fr the heating f buildings and, due t the fact that the cnstructin sectr enjys dynamic develpment, this leads t further increases in energy cnsumptin. Directive 2010/31/EU f the Eurpean Parliament and f the Cuncil f 19 May 2010 n the energy perfrmance f buildings cmpels member states t intrduce legislatin that will ensure that, frm 31 December 2018 nwards, all public buildings and, frm 31 December 2020 nwards, all newly built buildings will be near-zerenergy buildings. Each EU member state must intrduce its wn definitin f near zerenergy buildings. 4 Placement, which utlines the currently binding minimal standards fr architectural and technical slutins used in Pland, far-reaching changes were intrduced, the gal f which was t lwer the amunt f energy necessary t meet the demand f a building fr heat. The regulatins have been structured in a manner that makes the requirements stricter in a sequence f three stages. The first strictness increase regarding thermal requirements tk place in January 2014, while the next has been in effect frm January 2017, with the last t be implement in January The final requirement threshld will be the equivalent f the Plish definitin f a building with a near-zer energy cnsumptin. The design f energy efficient buildings is n lnger an exclusive alternative, but a cmmn necessity, resulting frm envirnmental, ecnmic and scial factrs, as well as frm current regulatins. As architects, we shuld take particular care that Pland finds itself amng cuntries that deliberately strive t imprve their energy situatin in the cnstructin sectr. Meanwhile, we are currently in the leading grup f Eurpean cuntries in terms f the wrst air quality, ne f the main causes f which is a very lw energy standard f single-family residential buildings. The csts that we are paying fr this are enrmus and we shuld d all that is in ur pwer t change this state f affairs. A cmprehensive and systemic analysis f the prblem f the design f single-family residential buildings, perfrmed in rder t radically increase their energy efficiency, is f utmst necessity. It shuld be primarily perfrmed frm the perspective f the methdlgy f the develpment f an architectural design, as it is the architect wh is respnsible fr the manner f the rganisatin f the design prcess, the drafting f the bjectives and guidelines fr detailed specialist designs, rganising cperatin with experts and specialist designers, as well as the verall integrity and quality f design dcumentatin. Energy efficient buildings are structures that are technlgically advanced, and whse design requires an architect t thughtfully and skilfully cmbine architectural, technical, technlgical and material slutins with thse regarding building services, as well as t perfrm detailed simulatins and calculatins f their energy efficiency. Practically all design slutins that are recmmended fr energy efficient buildings greatly differ frm previus, generally used standard nes. Determined by the verarching issue f energy efficiency, the principles f the shaping f the surrundings, frm and functinal layut f a building change, and the set f energy efficient architectural and technical cmpnents ut f which a building is cmpsed f becmes, t a large degree, c-dependent n the implemented infrastructural slutins. The design f energy efficient buildings requires a rerganisatin f the design prcess, in which the initial phase f design and the intrductin f apprpriate design supprt tls in the frm f specialist cmputer sftware is f significant imprtance. The subject f my wrk are the prblems f the design f energy efficient buildings using specialist design sftware, which makes it pssible t perfrm simulatins f the energy efficiency f a building. The design principles that are described in this wrk are called Integrated Energy Design - IED. It has been presented n the example f an riginal design f an energy efficient reference building. Fur mdules are f decisive imprtance in the methdlgy f Integrated Energy Design: 1) climate, 2) human factrs, 3) building envelpe, 4) building services. 4
5 Thanks t cutting edge specialist cmputer prgrams used t perfrm energy simulatins n virtual mdels f buildings built in a BIM prgram, it is pssible t determine the influence f each factr n energy cnsumptin already at the design stage. Detailed analyses f energy cnsumptin within a building allw us t determine the scalled energy balance f a building, and thus, the prprtins between thermal lsses and gains. Thermal gains within a building include energy that is supplied t the circuit. This energy can be drawn frm utside surces, frm sunlight r frm heat prvided by central heating. Internal gains cme frm sunlight, frm the ccupants f a building and frm the varius prcesses that take place within it. Thermal lsses within a building cause a large increase in useable energy that is needed t balance them ut. Energy lsses mstly ccur thrugh external partitins and thrugh the ventilatin system. The thermal insulatin f the entire envelpe f the building, thermal bridges and the air tightness f the partitins significantly affect their level. The Integrated Energy Design f energy efficient buildings als includes an apprpriate strategy f the selectin f architectural and technical slutins, as well as technical building services, understd as an apprpriate sequence and hierarchy f activities within the prcess f architectural and technical design, as well as building services slutins, cmbined with energy and financial analyses. 1) The first step is reducing energy demand thrugh the use f apprpriate measures (the ptimal frm and rientatin f a building, a prper functinal and temperature zne layut, using highly effective thermal insulatin, high air tightness, a supply and exhaust ventilatin with thermal recuperatin and grund thermal exchangers). 2) The secnd step is the use f renewable energy - this is assciated with the use f technlgies based n lcal surces f renewable energy, such as slar cllectrs, phtvltaic cells, grund heat exchangers, technlgies that make use f wind-generated energy, etc. 3) Shuld analyses f a design indicate that there is still a need fr useable energy, then the third step is the use f the least plluting fssil fuels in the mst effective manner pssible. The scientific gal f the wrk is the develpment f a methdlgy f the integrated energy design f single-family residential buildings in Pland within the scpe f the architectural design. This gal was meant t be achieved by: the definitin, separatin and establishment f the sequence f elements f design wrk that are imprtant in the btainment f high energy efficiency, the develpment f a set f partial, variant architectural slutins, that - when assembled tgether - will radically lwer the energy demand f a building, as well as the frmulatin f their shaping, their bundaries and cnditins f their selectin, the cmparative analysis f the degree f the impact f individual variant slutins n the energy efficiency f an entire building. 5
6 The narrwing dwn f the field f research t the prblem f the design f single-family residential buildings featuring high energy efficiency is justified fr the fllwing reasns: Single-family residential buildings are the mst ften encuntered type f buildings in Pland and cnstitute the largest grup in terms f cmbined useable area. The number f single-family residential buildings that are being built in Pland is systematically rising. Their share in the cnstructin sectr exceeded 50% with a tendency fr further grwth. An average-sized design f a single-family residential building is cnvenient fr the purpses f carrying ut varius types f analyses and studies, due t the fact that when it is develped with a standard functinal prgramme and a relatively small useable area and building vlume, it features a typical set f design prblems that decisively impact energy efficiency. The results f analyses and studies can thus be used in the design f ther types f buildings. Only 1% f existing single-family residential buildings can be described as energy efficient, while ver 70% (3,6 millin) are buildings that d nt feature any thermal insulatin at all r are insulated much t thinly. The high energy cnsumptin f single-family residential buildings causes their wners t chse the cheapest and least envirnmentally-friendly heating slutins. Pllutin emissin generated by the single-family residential building sectr is the main surce f air pllutin. On the ther hand, it is the sectr with the greatest ptential in terms f the pssibility f reducing the cnsumptin f energy and the prtectin f the envirnment. A radical reductin f energy demand in the single-family residential buildings sectr is becming a necessity. The examples f many develped Eurpean cuntries indicate that it is pssible t d s and the implementatin and ppularisatin f energy efficient cnstructin brings with it a series f benefits, bth n the lcal and glbal scale. In rder t make the study pssible, an riginal reference building had been designed, fr which variant analyses were perfrmed that made it pssible t answer the questin regarding the degree f the impact f the factrs that have been listed belw n energy efficiency: 1) a building's rientatin relative t the cardinal directins and its expsure t wind; 2) establishing temperature znes fr rms; 3) whether a building has a cellar r nt; 4) the presence f buffer znes; 5) massive structural elements that accumulate heat; 6) the size f glazed surfaces in a building and their rientatin relative t the cardinal directins; 7) air tightness; 8) the use f recuperatin, air cnditining, etc. A reasnable balance needs t be struck in the shaping f design slutins fr energy efficient buildings. A balance between traditinal, histrical architectural and technical slutins that have been develped thanks t the experience f entire generatins in cmbinatin with the specifics f lcal climate cnditins and mdern material and technlgical slutins, including the mre and mre effective technical equipment within a 6
7 building, that have largely made mdern structures independent f the influence f atmspheric cnditins. The results f the wrk indicate that withut a methdlgy f and a change in the rganisatin f design wrk in the manner that has been utlined in it, it is very difficult t design buildings with a high level f energy efficiency. In the case f the lack f the pssibility f crrecting design slutins n the g, an architect lses cntrl in terms f the energy efficiency f a building and transfers it t building services engineers, wh, while nt being architects, shuld nt intrduce any design crrectins by themselves. The effect f the study is a clear cnclusin that states that the design f energy efficient buildings demands that the apprach t current principles f design needs t be altered in the directin f Integrated Energy Design. This is assciated with the use f prper design supprt tls. These tls cme in the frm f BIM-cmpliant sftware, which is cnnected with prgrams that make it pssible t perfrm energy efficiency simulatins n the virtual mdel f a building. All f an architectural design's precisely parameterised elements are crucial and need t be cmprehensively analysed. It is very imprtant t shift the main fcus f design decisins t the earliest pssible stage f design, when it is easier t intrduce amendments t slutins in a manner that des nt generate additinal csts. In particular, the results f the study indicate that the final degree f a building's energy efficiency is influenced by many mutually supplementing and c-dependent architectural and cnstructin-related slutins, which are recmmended fr energy efficient buildings. The mre f these slutins are implemented in a design and during cnstructin, the better the final energy parameters f a building will be. A part f the recmmended design slutins can be described as bligatry, while the remaining nes as cmplementary - this means that pting nt t implement them des nt disqualify a building frm being cnsidered energy efficient, but it can make it difficult t achieve the highest energy standards. The fllwing design slutins shuld be treated as bligatry in energy efficient buildings: The rientatin f a building twards the suth (with a maximum deviatin nt exceeding 30 ). High thermal insulatin prperties f all the external partitins that cnstitute a building's envelpe, including the slab n grade, at a level which is t be as clse as pssible t U = 0,1 [W/m 2 K]. High quality windws, planned primarily in rder t achieve the mst advantageus energy balance f thermal gains and lsses. The eliminatin f linear thermal bridges. A high air tightness f the entire envelpe f a building, at a level f at least n 50 = 1,0 [ac/h], which meets the standard f a lw-energy building. Supply and exhaust mechanical ventilatin with a system f heat reclamatin with the use f a recuperatr. Differences in the energy efficiency f energy efficient buildings that feature the same parameters which ccur due t a building's lcatin in ne f the five climate znes that are present in the territry f Pland are very small. It is thus unjustified t prvide different design slutins f energy efficiency depending n a building's lcatin in a particular climate zne. Cntrary t energy efficient buildings, the prviding f different, lcatin-dependent 7
8 design slutins in nrmative buildings, which are much mre sensitive t changes in climate, is fully justified. Differences in energy efficiency becme significant and increase all the mre in line with the wrsening f the energy standard f a building. Buildings in which the set f architectural and cnstructin-related slutins that are recmmended in rder t increase energy efficiency require much mre attentin during the design prcess. The chain f causes and effects between these architectural, cnstructinrelated and infrastructural slutins requires verificatin thrugh apprpriate simulatins fr all the seasns f the year, fr each day, fr every individual design. The lack f the verificatin f a design thrugh energy simulatins can lead t a situatin in which, during the summer seasn, thermal cmfrt is ging t significantly deterirate, despite the fact that energy demand during the heating seasn will decrease. The causes f this are varied and withut perfrming apprpriate simulatins it is difficult t accurately and precisely determine them. The use f natural ventilatin practically disqualifies a building frm being able t achieve the parameters f an energy efficient building. Increasing the surface f windws within an energy efficient building des nt lead t significant energy lsses - under the cnditin that it applies t the suthern side f a building. The relatively large thermal lsses thrugh windws can seem larger than in nrmative buildings and result frm the high thermal insulatin parameters f external walls, which is why the prprtinal thermal lss caused by windws appears larger. In terms f energy efficiency, it is beneficial t use unheated buffer znes within a building. The use f massive structural elements (walls, flr slabs) that accumulate heat lwers the energy demand fr heating during the winter seasn. Digital simulatins allw us t verify whether the massive structures are ging t lead t a risk f verheating during the summer seasn - and, by extensin, lwer thermal cmfrt - r nt. The use f external shading luvres and glazing with antireflective cating can greatly increase thermal cmfrt during the summer seasn. Hwever, this is nt always a slutin that allws t fully avid the verheating f a building. The use f air cnditining significantly increases cmfrt, but als greatly increases final energy cnsumptin, as well as peratinal csts. Thus it is nt an energy efficient slutin. Letting ut excess heat that accumulates within a building during ht days leads t high energy lsses thrugh ventilatin. The effective cling f a building withut incurring energy lsses can be perfrmed by intrducing nightly venting. The autmatic system f the heating and ventilatin services prevents the verheating f a building in transitin perids due t excessive heating f the supplied air. The wrk and its results can and shuld be used in the establishment f a system f aids fr design practices and architects, students f architectural faculties, as well as prperty develpers and users f buildings in terms f cmprehensive slutins that serve t increase the level f the energy efficiency f buildings. The implementatin f the results f the research in the prcess f architectural design and the cperatin between the varius branches f cnstructin-related engineering will lead t a better and mre effective 8
9 rganisatin f the design prcess, the wider spread f design slutins that make it pssible t radically lwer the energy demands f buildings and a series f envirnmental and ecnmic benefits, as well as in regards t sciety, which are a result f decreasing and ratinalising the use f energy during the peratin stage f prjects. 5. Wrks befre btaining the degree f dktr nauk technicznych I began my Master's level Architecture and Urban Design studies at the Faculty f Architecture f the Cracw University f Technlgy in 1984, after graduating frm high schl where I attended a mathematics and physics-fcused class. During my university studies I participated in a student exchange prgramme between the Cracw University f Technlgy and the Faculty f Architecture f the University f Delft in the Netherlands. Immediately after graduating frm university in 1990 I began wrk at the D.C. Engineering Ltd. Engineering Design, Supply and Cnstructin Cmpany as an architect and crdinatr / rganiser f cnstructin sites that the cmpany perfrmed cnstructin wrk n. This allwed me t gain experience, thanks t which I was able t btain a full design and cnstructin site supervisin license in After 1992, while cncurrently wrking at D.C. Engineering Ltd. I perfrmed cnsulting wrk in the cnstructin sectr and initial design wrk in the frm f cnceptual designs f buildings fr a Dutch cmpany that invested in Pland - CITYLAND Ltd. In 1992 I funded my wn cmpany named ARCHI-PLUS, which I run t this day, and which includes an architectural practice, cnsulting ffice and a specialist, cnstructin-fcused publishing huse. In 1995 I became emplyed as a full-time academic and didactic assistant at the Faculty f Architecture f the Cracw University f Technlgy, at the Chair f Building Cnstructin and Cnstructin Materials f the Institute f Architecture and Rural Planning. a. Scientific and research wrks In 1995, which was the year in which I began my wrk at the university, the first editin f my ppular science bk titled Prezentacja nwczesnych technik budwlanych 2 was published. The fundatin fr its writing was my interest in new architectural and technical slutins and a belief that there had been a cmplete lack f publicatins n this subject n the Plish publishing market. My scientific interests fund their reflectin in the chice f subjects fr scientific study cnducted at the university and in the subject f the first scientific articles that I wrte. The develpment f this publicatin was a result f cperatin with cnstructin crpratins that were leaders n the Plish market. The key rle in this cperatin was played by the Dutch Gullfiber crpratin, which is a prducer f thermal insulatin materials. 13 Participatin in scientific cnferences and seminars, articles and delivered presentatins The beginning f the XXI century was a perid f the intrductin f a series f cmprehensive technlgy systems nt the Plish cnstructin market, which allw the building f a cmplete frame stage f a building. The regulatins regarding thermal prtectin were lax enugh at the time that they allwed the cnstructin f walls that were unifrm in terms f material, under the cnditin f the use f apprpriately "warm" cnstructin materials. Materials that cmbined structural and thermal insulatin characteristics included prus ceramics - the Prtherm system, as well as autclaved aerated cncrete - the Ytng system. One imprtant aspect f design using these systems was the apprpriate mdular and dimensinal crdinatin f a design. It was assciated with the ptimisatin f architectural and cnstructin-related slutins in terms f thermal prtectin and was based n designing structural details in such a manner that the thermal insulatin parameters f all parts f a building needed t be as unifrm as pssible. Fr this reasn, the tie-beams f the flr slabs and lintels abve drs and windws had additinal thermal insulatin, which cmpensated the inferir heat transfer cefficient f reinfrced cncrete structural elements. 14 cperatin with leading cnstructin crpratins - cncurrent t scientific wrk perfrmed at the university - I had the pprtunity t cnduct a series f scientific studies in this field. Despite the apparent lack f a direct link between many cnstructin materials with the prblem f energy efficiency, this cnnectin is very strng. One characteristic example are materials and cnstructin technlgies used in inclined rfs. In energy efficient buildings, the required thickness f the thermal insulatin layer in rf surfaces f useable attics is greater than the height f the rafters in rf frames, which is calculated with their lad-bearing structural rle in mind. Thus, the mst ften used apprach is the use f tw-layer thermal insulatin. The additinal layer f thermal insulatin, which simultaneusly cmpensates fr linear thermal bridges alng the rafters, is fastened between the metal lad-bearing frames f the interir plasterbards. In passive buildings, the additinal thermal insulatin layer shuld have a thickness in excess f 15 cm. Hence, there appeared the prblem f prviding the prper tensile strength f the cnnectrs f the lad-bearing frame, which, due t their length, find themselves under lads many times the size f previus nes. This is nly an example that illustrates hw my cperatin with the industrial sectr intertwined with cncurrent academic wrk at the university, and which has afterwards been reflected in successive scientific publicatins.
