JP II PARISH ROSARY SOCIETY SCHOL- ARSHIP Each year the St. John Paul II Parish Rosary Society awards a $500 scholarship for an eighth grade student who is a member of St. JP II Parish and will be attending a Catholic high school in September. The award is based on the highest test scores. If interested, please forward your name, telephone number, and test scores to the Parish Rectory, attention Mary Ann Decha / Rosary Society by April 30, 2018.

4 SPRING FROLIC The members of the Friends of St. Francis Organization extend an invitation to our community to attend their annual dinner party on April 7, 2018 in the St. John Paul II Mt. Carmel Parish Center at 6:00 p.m. The event will benefit the Felician Sister Mission an the Bayonne Food Pantries at four parishes. The fundriser will feature a hot buffet, dessesrts, refreshments, entertainment, raffles and prizes. Tickets are $25 for adult and $10 for youth. From all of us here at St. John Paul II Parish, Priests and our entire staff, we pray for you and your families and loved ones, a blessed and hope-filled Easter. With heartfelt gratitude, I also thank the veritable holy army of musicians, ushers, greeters, decorators, Eucharistic ministers. Lectors, to everyone who is helping us with altar linens, altar servers, hospital ministry, religious educators and our staff of workers for their dedicated and loving service to our parish. We are indeed blessed with such selfless and loving followers of Christ. Easter brings so many promises of God to us, life is stronger than death, love can overcome hate, goodness ultimately triumphs over evil and eternity and glory with God in Heaven are our destiny. I pray that Jesus may live in all our heats, that we may always embrace Him with love and gratitude. May His love and His peace fill our hearts, our lives, our homes and our families. Piotr SDS The Divine Mercy Novena begins on Good Friday and goes until Divine Mercy Saturday. The Divine Mercy novena prayers were given to St. Faustina through an apparition of our Lord Jesus. Each day has a new petition that seeks God s mercy for different purposes. The message of Divine Mercy is a powerful and moving way to come closer to Christ. How to Pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet? Here are the steps of how to pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet: Step 1 Using a regular set of Rosary beads, you begin at the cross by doing the sign of the cross. (Optional Opening Prayer) You expired, Jesus, but the source of life gushed forth for souls, and the ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world. O Fount of Life, unfathomable Divine Mercy, envelop the whole world and empty Yourself out upon us. (Repeat three times) O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fountain of Mercy for us, I trust in You! Step 2 On the three beads of the rosary pray the Our Father, the Hail Mary and the Apostles Creed. Step 3 You begin each decade with the Our Father beads by praying this prayer: Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world. Step 4 Complete the decade on the 10 Hail Mary beads by praying this prayer: For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 for each decade on the rosary beads Step 5 Once you have prayed all 5 decades, you finish the Chaplet by praying the following prayer 3 times: Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world. (Optional Closing Prayer) Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible, look kindly upon us, and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments, we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence, submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself.amen. 5 ZWYCZAJE WIELKA- NOCNE DAWNE I WSPÓŁCZESNE Ten radosny czas obfituje w wiele zwyczajów. Większość z nich znane jest od średniowiecza i praktykowane do dziś. Niedziela Palmowa - symbolizuje przybycie Jezusa Chrystusa do Jerozolimy. Rozpoczyna Wielki Tydzień. Kiedyś w Polsce nazywa Wierzbną, ponieważ gałązki wierzby zastępowały palmy. Pogrzeb żuru i śledzia w dawnych czasach okres postu był bardzo ściśle przestrzegany, ograniczano wtedy spożywanie praktycznie wszystkie, mięsa, cukru nawet nabiału. Jedzono praktycznie tylko żur i śledzie. Dlatego w Wielki Piątek z radości ku końcowi postu, urządzano tzw. pogrzeb żuru i śledzia. Wszyscy mieszkańcy wsi z okrzykami radości zakopywali w przygotowanym dole znudzone pożywienie, z którym rozstawali się na cały rok. W niektórych regionach Polski zasypywano dodatkowo garnek z popiołem, który symbolizował koniec smutku i nadejścia radości. Topienie Judasza w Wielką Środę młodzież topi słomianą kukłę, symbolizującą Judasza. Po przeciągnięciu jej przez całą wieś, wrzuca ją do wody i obrzuca kamieniami do momentu aż pójdzie na dno. Święconka w Wielką Sobotę odbywa się święcenie pokarmów, które później spożywamy na świąteczne śniadanie. Choć zwartość koszyczka różni się w zależności od regionu, to w każdym nie może zabraknąć: jajka, baranka, soli chleba, kiełbasy i chrzanu. Pisanki Pochodzenie tradycji malowania pisanek nie jest do końca znane. Każdy kolory symbolizuje coś innego. Fioletowy i niebieski oznacza Wielki Post, czerwony to przelana na krzyżu krew Chrystusa, zielona, brązowa i żółta wyrażają radość. W naturalny sposób jajka można zafarbować gotując je w łupinach cebuli, kwiatach malwy lub kory dębu. Śmigus Dyngus czyli lany poniedziałek - zwyczaj symbolizujący budzenie się przyrody do życia oraz oczyszczenie z zimowego brudu. Przepowiednia mówi, że im mocniej oblana panna, tym większe szanse na szybkie zamążpójście. Zajączek zabawa wielkanocna - po świątecznym śniadaniu, wszyscy zebrani chodzą po domu i szukają ukrytych upominków È ancora buio e le donne si recano al sepolcro di Gesù, le mani cariche di aromi. Vanno a prendersi cura del suo corpo, con ciò che hanno, come solo loro sanno. Sono quelle donne che l'avevano seguito dalla Galilea, sostenendolo con i loro beni in ciò che era necessario. Con lui avevano assaporato la ricchezza del «più che necessario», giorni di libertà felice, germogli di un mondo nuovo. Sono quelle che stavano sotto la croce. L'avevano guardato morire. E nessuno a soccorrerlo. Ora vanno al sepolcro: ciò che le muove non è un atto di fede nella divinità di Gesù, non una speranza segreta, ma un atto d'amore. Lo amano ancora, semplicemente, ma è ciò che rimette in marcia la vita: «non è possibile amare la divinità di Cristo se non amando prima la sua umanità» (Heidewick di Anversa). Il racconto di Luca è di estrema sobrietà: «entrarono e non trovarono il corpo del Signore». Tutto si blocca, l'assenza del corpo di Gesù entra dolorosamente in loro come uno smarrimento, un vuoto pieno solo di domande. E alla desolazione si aggiunge paura: due uomini vestiti di lampi. Come è contrastata la fede di Pasqua! Quasi fossero doglie di parto. Si innesta su di una ferita, su di una assenza patita dolorosamente, su di una perdita. Perché cercate tra i morti colui che è vivo? Voi state cercando il vostro tesoro perduto, avete fame di colui che vi ha riempito di senso le vite. Perché cercate colui che è vivo? Bellissimo nome di Gesù: Lui è il vivente. Non solo è vivo adesso, come uno che non è più un morto, ma è il vivente, colui che continuamente vive, cui appartiene il vivere, l'autore della vita: la sua missione, la sua azione è germinare vita, fiorire vita. Non è qui, è risuscitato, si è alzato. I Vangeli raccontano la risurrezione di Gesù con i due verbi del mattino dell'uomo, svegliarsi e alzarsi. Come se i nostri giorni fossero una piccola risurrezione quotidiana, e la Pasqua un giorno senza più tramonto. Ma la tomba vuota non basta, gli angeli non bastano perché la fede venga alla luce: Ricordatevi come vi parlò: bisogna che io sia crocifisso e risorga... ed esse ricordarono le sue parole. Adesso tutto esplode. Le donne ricordano, credono perché ricordano, credono non per le parole degli angeli, ma per la parola di Gesù. Credono prima di vedere. Non sono le apparizioni che fanno credere, né le vesti sfolgoranti, ciò che fa credere è sempre la sua Parola, Vangelo custodito anche nei giorni della perdita e dell'assenza. Le donne hanno conservato quelle parole perché le amano, perché nell'uomo si imprime e persiste solo ciò che ci sta davvero a cuore. Principio di ogni incontro con il Vivente è, anche per noi, la custodia amorosa della sua Parola. A tutti Voi carissimi parrocchiani, cordiali auguri di Buona Pasqua, Cristo è risorto Alleluia!!!
