Warsaw, 16th July 2013 Report summarizing work in the period from 1 April 2013 to 30 June 2013 WP 6.1. Recruitment of the Project Manager Completed WP 6.2a. Support of the analytical potential by the purchase of SEM 1. Advanced course Three of the operators of the SEM microscope were delegated to the Eindhoven (Holland) to participate in an advanced course in which different techniques of SEM measurements were addressed. The course took place between 10 and 12 June 2013 in the headquarters of the FEI company, producer of the microscope purchased by the Institute of Physical Chemistry. The following persons were delegated: Dr Witold Adamkiewicz Dr Marcin Hołdyński Dr Martin Jonson-Niedziółka The course has been conducted by Dr Adrian Sandu, an experienced professional employed in the FEI company. The following issues were addressed: - Application of specific techniques for collecting images for different materials - Demonstration of operation of detectors for backscattered electrons. - Work with samples that require measurements in low vacuum (use of detectors Helix, LVD and GAD) - Demonstration of scanning transmission microscopy (STEM) Detailed training report is attached hereto. 2. Basic courses In the Institute of Physical Chemistry, a number of employees took interest in application of SEM in their research. Over forty persons are willing to participate in a basic course that would make possible the use of SEM in typical measurements.
It has been decided that four operators which participated in advanced courses can conduct the basic course for interested colleagues. Four operators were selected to lead the basic courses: Dr Witold Adamkiewicz Dr Marcin Hołdyński Dr Martin Jonson-Niedziółka Dr Marcin Pisarek. Three basic training courses were organized in June (21 June, 26 June, 27 June and 28 June). In total, ten participants took part in these courses. WP 6.2b.
