PATRON PAGE 3 PARISH ANNOUNCEMENTS FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT November 27, 2011 SUNDAY: Today we begin the new Liturgical Year and Advent, the time during which we prepare ourselves for the Birth of Christ. The second collection today is designated to assist our parish in paying the 2012 Assessment of $43,400. We invite everyone to our parish cafe which is open on Sundays and our flea market which is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00am-2.30pm. MONDAY: Mass and Novena to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal at 7:00pm. The parish library is open 6:30 to 8:00pm on Mondays. PAGE 6 NOVEMBER 27, 2011 NEWLY REVISED RESPONSES OF THE ROMAN MISSAL As announced by Father Marek at the English Masses last Sunday, our responses at Mass have been revised with the changes going into effect on November 27 of this year. After Vatican Council II, when the Church approved the celebration of Mass in the vernacular for better understanding by the membership, rather than in traditional Latin, the translation into English was done for meaning and not verbatim as was done in all other languages. After many years of work by religious and secular translators, the English Mass responses will now coincide with the Latin original and the other language translations. The Holy Mass, in its entirety, remains the same. No changes have been made to the ritual of the Mass. The following is a comparison between the old and the new responses. Kindly acquaint yourself with these changes. Also, for the convenience of parishioners and guests, newly updated response cards have been placed in the pews. We ask that you not take them home, but leave them in the church for others to use. Priest: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Kiedy przed wielu laty zaczynałam pracę w klinice zdrowia psychicznego UNITAS na Manhattanie, a było to w połowie 90-tych lat w leczeniu było czterech może pięciu nastoletnich narkomanów, Polaków. A był to okres sporego napływu naszych rodaków do USA z uwagi na wielką atrakcyjność loterii wizowej. Z jednej strony było to zadziwiające, bo w Polsce narkomania zataczała coraz większe kręgi, z drugiej zaś my Polacy tam pracujący z jej dyrektorem Romanem Pabisem na czele byliśmy z tej sytuacji bardzo radzi. Radość, jak zresztą wszystko nie może trwać wiecznie. Tak więc z czasem zaczęło sie pojawiać w klinice coraz więcej młodych ludzi uzależnionych od narkotyków wszelakiego rodzaju. Przyprowadzani byli najczęściej przez rodziców ale też i innych członków rodziny a nawet przyjaciół. Jedni z oporami, inni bez nich poddawali się rygorom i procesowi terapii z różnym zresztą skutkiem. Nałogi bowiem mają to do siebie, że lubią tych, których dopadną. Walka z nimi to duży wysiłek i przede wszystkim dobra i silna wola. Bez powiedzenia sobie stop, dość - nie ma szans na powodzenie. Tego typu terapia wymaga ogromnej autodyscypliny, wyrzeczeń, siły. Stąd, tak niewiele jest całkowitych wyleczeń. Dlaczego w ogóle jest tak wiele osób uzależnionych i to bez względu na wiek, płeć, środowisko? Odpowiedz nie jest prosta, bo składa się na nią szereg czynników. Jest to niewątpliwie moda trwająca już od wielu, wielu lat, ogólna dostępność, stres (chodzi o jego rozładowanie) i, co bardzo istotne w odniesieniu do nastolatków, brak zainteresowanie ich życiem ze strony rodziców, brak wiedzy na temat rodzaju narkotyków, ich działania, objawów, wreszcie zwykłe niedowierzanie moje dziecko i narkotyki, to niemożliwe. A jednak możliwe i bywa, że leczenie nałogu jest utrudnione właśnie z uwagi na stopień jego zaawansowania. Uważnemu rodzicowi, mającemu dobry i bliski kontakt ze swoim dzieckiem trudno uwierzyć, że można nie zauważyć odmiennych form zachowania, znikających z domu pieniędzy, opuszczenia się w szkole, alienacji w stosunku do dotychczasowych znajomych, zaś w ich miejsce pojawiających sie nowych ludzi w otoczeniu swego syna lub córki. Może zabrzmi to niewiarygodnie ale zwrócono się do mnie z prośbą o pomoc dla 14-letniej dziewczynki, która jak sie okazało była uzależniona od narkotyków od 2 lat (!). I przez te 2 lata nikt niczego nie spostrzegł. Czy jest to możliwe? O to proszę nie mnie pytać ale jej najbliższych. Oboje rodzice zalewając sie łzami informowali, że starali się dziecku zapewnić wszystko, co najlepsze i w związku z tym dużo pracowali budując także wypoczynkowy dom w górach. Tak więc większość czasu dziewczynka pozostawała sama, bez dozoru. Właśnie takie dzieci jak ona, pochodzące z rodzin, gdzie spory nacisk kładzie sie na materialną stronę jej funkcjonowania, czy takie, w których źle się dzieje, gdzie więcej złości, niż uśmiechu i miłości stają się idealnym celem zainteresowania dealerów narkotykami. Może czas, by postudiować ogólnie dostępne informacje na temat narkotyków, ich działania, objawów. Uważnie przyjrzeć się swoim nastoletnim dzieciom ale przede wszystkim nie tracić z nimi kontaktu w imię żadnego ze szczytnych celów. Chyba nikt nie powinien mieć wątpliwości, że nie ma ważniejszego celu, niż wychowanie dziecka na dobrego, prawego człowieka. Zarabiane przez rodziców ciężką pracą pieniądze można chyba lepiej spożytkować, niż opłacając kosztowną terapię, która jak wcześniej wspomniałam może sie okazać nieskuteczna. Pragną oni stworzyć radio obiektywne, społeczne, docierające do każdego słuchacza, w którym byłoby sporo miejsca na przekazywanie kwestii lokalnych. Dziennikarze szukają zrozumienia całej Polonii i liczą na poparcie ich wysiłków. Oczekują na wsparcie każdego Polaka, aby polski głos rozchodził się poprzez fale radiowe w Nowym Jorku. Dziennikarze będą kwestowali powstającą rozgłośnię polskiego radia w niedzielę 4 grudnia przed kościołem. Będzie to także okazja by z nimi osobiście porozmawiać. The wheels were hung high in the rafters of the house, fitted out with lanterns, and wound tightly with evergreen boughs. The first wreaths were windows into heaven, a source of light, a comforting sign of the victory of the light of Christ over our world s dark wildernesses, its mountainous obstacles, its valleys of need. The Advent wreath started in the home, and only later appeared in church. Its four candles represent the four Sundays of our journey: typically three purple, one rose. Why not set a wreath in your own home as a place for Advent prayer? Don t let a shortage of purple candles discourage you: some use a deep blue, others have white candles and weave blue and purple flowers, seashells, and pine cones into the green.
