The Order of Mass 2nd Sunday of Lent Procession: I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say 1. I heard the voice of Jesus say, "Come unto me and rest; Lay down, thou weary one, lay down Thy head upon my breast." I came to Jesus as I was, So weary, worn and sad; I found in him a resting place, And he has made me glad. 2. I heard the voice of Jesus say, "Behold, I freely give The living water; thirsty one, Stoop down, and drink, and live." I came to Jesus, and I drank Of that life-giving stream; My thirst was quenched, my soul revived, And now I live in him. 3. I heard the voice of Jesus say, "I am this dark world's light; Look unto me, thy morn shall rise, And all thy day be bright." I looked to Jesus, and I found In him my star, my sun; And in that light of life I'll walk Till traveling days are done. a Text: CMD; Horatius Bonar, 1808 1889, alt. Music: trad. Hail, Holy Queen Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope! To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears! Turn, then, O most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. V: Pray for us, O holy Mother of God. R/: That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Our Faith WE ARE TO BE TRANSFORMED Today s showing forth of God s glory is filled with a light that astonishes and reveals. Jesus transfigured on Mount Tabor energizes even the sleepy apostles, who see but cannot get hold of it. They can be forgiven for not apprehending the full meaning of this extraordinary vision of a transfigured Jesus with Elijah and Moses. The whole of the Law and prophets is summed up here on this mountain. The transfiguration on Mount Tabor is handed over to us this Sunday. As Paul reminds us, it is we who are to be transformed. The light and life of the Resurrection are set forth here so we do not lose heart and fall entirely asleep. This Sunday looks to Easter. It looks to transformation. It asks us to lift up our heads and acknowledge the risen Lord as our light and our salvation. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. Those who are bound by this may take only one full meal. Two smaller meals are permitted if necessary to maintain strength according to one s needs, but eating solid foods between meals is not permitted. The special Paschal fast, as well as abstinence, are prescribed for Good Friday and encouraged for Holy Saturday. 8 Eucharistic Adoration: On Wednesdays at 1pm, the church is open for the Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, concluding with Benediction at 3pm. At this time, people come together to pray and be with our Lord Jesus Christ. Consider bringing someone with you...or bring their concerns, fears and struggles and speak with our Lord about them. Scripture is filled with moments when people brought the sick and those burdened directly to Jesus.

Jubilee Year of Mercy February 21, 2016 Second Sunday of Lent Many icons depicting Jesus transfiguration bear the Greek title Metamorphosis, a technical term also for nature s springtime transformation. Fittingly, this Jubilee Year of Mercy coincides with the Lectionary s Year of Luke, for only Luke specifies Moses and Elijah speaking about Jesus exodus that he was going to accomplish in Jerusalem (Luke 9:31). Israel s exodus liberated from slavery; Jesus exodus liberates from sin s living death of selfishness. Pope Francis suggests that Lent s prayer, fasting, and works of charity can transfigure the world, if Christians translate Isaiah s challenge into our daily lived experience of Jesus life-giving exodus by releasing those bound unjustly, setting free the oppressed, sharing your bread with the hungry, bringing the afflicted and homeless into your house, clothing the naked, not turning your back on your own. If you remove from your midst oppression, and malicious speech... then light shall rise for you in the darkness... you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring whose water never fails (Isaiah 58:9, 10, 11). Peter Scagnelli, Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. Serving the Lord at Sunday Mass.. Our parish needs more men and women (high school age and older) to serve as ushers at all our weekend Masses. Please introduce yourself to those who are ushering and let them know you are available and willing to help. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Sometimes there is a hesitation for people to bring the gifts of bread and wine to the altar at the Offertory. No one is assigned to bring up the gifts; and parishioners spontaneously decide to bring the gifts forward...and there are times when no one steps up. An idea was given to help this situation: Volunteers are needed to collaborate on creating and maintaining a sign-up sheet where families, or friends attending Mass together could sign up to bring the gifts at the Offertory. If you are interested in either ushering or to help with creating and maintaining a sign up sheet for the gifts; please contact the Parish Office. Thank you, Fr. Gene 9

I I NIEDZIELA WIELKIEGO POSTU Święty czas Wstęp do liturgii Niedziela jest pamiątką zmartwychwstania Jezusa Chrystusa, zwycięstwa Miłości nad grzechem, w którym wciąż jesteśmy zanurzeni. Ofiara Chrystusa na drzewie krzyża uwalnia nas spod władzy złego ducha, jednoczy nas z Bogiem i gwarantuje wieczne zbawienie w Królestwie Niebieskim. By jednak móc w pełni skorzystać z owoców miłości Boga do człowieka, musimy przyjąć Jego zaproszenie, do nawrócenia i przemiany własnego życia. Rekolekcje Wielkopostne w jêzyku polskim w Koºciele ªw. Tekli. Dear St. Thecla Parishioners, St. Thecla School Please join me in extending Mr. Dan Gargano a heartfelt thank you for his leadership, professionalism and integrity as he served St. Thecla in his role as our principal. Mr. Gargano will not be returning next year; let s wish him the best and keep him in our thoughts and prayers as he begins a discernment to explore different avenues in education. While we will miss him; our school remains stable and we will continue to grow. Dan accomplished much and in a great manner as our school continues to function well. From a professional standpoint: when a leader transitions we don t look for a replacement because all good leaders recognize that individually we bring certain strengths and our limits. In this context we will diligently search for the best candidate for our school. I am very grateful to be able to count on your support and on those who step up to assist me with consultative leadership decisions when asked. A search committee will be formed and my confidence remains in you to handle this change and grow together in it. Again; our sincerest appreciation to Mr. Gargano; who will be a Falcon forever. In God we trust; Fr. Gene Dyer, Pastor St. Thecla School will be hold the annual St. Baldrick s fundraiser on March 11 th from 8:30am to 10:30am in the school gym. We welcome all St. Thecla parishioners and friends to attend. We are in the process of organizing the raffles and prizes. Each grade level classroom will donate items in order to create a themed raffle basket and we need your help! If you would like to donate any items to the baskets, we will have a table set up in the school vestibule with the following labeled boxes: Cooking and Baking Basket, Spa Day Basket, and the Lottery Ticket Tree. Please feel free to stop in and drop off the item. Thank you for your charitable support in finding a cure to childhood cancer. All proceeds of the event will go to the St. Baldrick s Foundation.
