Saints Philip and James Story James, Son of Alphaeus: We know nothing of this man except his name, and, of course, the fact that Jesus chose him to be one of the 12 pillars of the New Israel, his Church. He is not the James of Acts, son of Clopas, brother of Jesus and later bishop of Jerusalem and the traditional author of the Letter of James. James, son of Alphaeus, is also known as James the Lesser to avoid confusing him with James the son of Zebedee, also an apostle and known as James the Greater. Philip: Philip came from the same town as Peter and Andrew, Bethsaida in Galilee. Jesus called him directly, whereupon he sought out Nathanael and told him of the one about whom Moses wrote (John 1:45). Like the other apostles, Philip took a long time coming to realize who Jesus was. On one occasion, when Jesus saw the great multitude following him and wanted to give them food, he asked Philip where they should buy bread for the people to eat. Saint John comments, [Jesus] said this to test him, because he himself knew what he was going to do (John 6:6). Philip answered, Two hundred days wages worth of food would not be enough for each of them to have a little [bit] (John 6:7). John s story is not a put-down of Philip. It was simply necessary for these men who were to be the foundation stones of the Church to see the clear distinction between humanity s total helplessness apart from God and the human ability to be a bearer of divine power by God s gift. On another occasion, we can almost hear the exasperation in Jesus s voice. After Thomas had complained that they did not know where Jesus was going, Jesus said, I am the way If you know me, then you will also know my Father. From now on you do know him and have seen him (John 14:6a, 7). Then Philip said, Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us (John 14:8). Enough! Jesus answered, Have I been with you for so long a time and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father (John 14:9a). Possibly because Philip bore a Greek name or because he was thought to be close to Jesus, some gentile proselytes came to him and asked him to introduce them to Jesus. Philip went to Andrew, and Andrew went to Jesus. Jesus s reply in John s Gospel is indirect; Jesus says that now his hour has come, that in a short time he will give his life for Jew and gentile alike. The Mission of Faith Formation is Life Long Catechesis. We are always in the process of learning about our faith and our God. Thus our Religious Education program is designed to assist parents, as the first and foremost teachers of the Faith, in bringing their children into full membership in the community. We view the formation of faith and conscience as a lifelong process that continues in the heart and home long after formal religion classes end. We encourage families to journey together toward a deeper relationship with God, and ask them to call on us. Dear Parents/Guardians: We are so grateful for the many ways you support the Catholic parish families of Bayonne. Your presence and faithful participation are great blessings to us. We are continuing to work with the Catechetical Office of the Archdiocese of Newark to provide one Religious Education Program for the City of Bayonne. This unified program, inaugurated last year, will be offered at all parishes once again for the 2017-2018 religious education year. Here are the details of our unified program: 1. PARISH REGISTRATION In an effort to maintain effective communications and contact with you and your family, all families must be registered parishioners at one of our Bayonne parishes in order to register in our Religious Education Programs. Please contact the parish of your choice to register. 2. REGISTRATION FOR RELIGIOUS EDUCATION Religious Education Program Registration for all parishes will begin on April 1, 2017 and end on September 8, 2017. 3. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM REGISTRA- TION FEES 1 child - $75.00 if registered by June 30th. $100 if registered on July 1st or later. 2 or more children $125.00 if registered by June 30th. $150 if registered on July 1st or later. 4. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM SACRA- MENTAL PREPARATION FEES Reconciliation/First Communion preparation fees will be combined. Nabożeństwo majowe w języku polskim - czwartki po Mszy św. o 7:00 PM oraz niedziele o 3:00 PM. 6 maja - Święto Apostołów Filipa i Jakuba Filip pochodził z Betsaidy nad Jeziorem Galilejskim. Był uczniem Jana Chrzciciela. Powołany przez Jezusa, został jednym z dwunastu Jego uczniów. Filip jest czynnym świadkiem cudownego nakarmienia rzeszy przez Pana Jezusa. Filip musiał się cieszyć specjalnym zaufaniem Pana Jezusa, skoro poganie proszą go, aby im dopomógł w skontaktowaniu się z Chrystusem. W czasie ostatniej wieczerzy Filip prosi Pana Jezusa, aby pokazał Apostołom swojego niebieskiego Ojca. Jakub, zwany Młodszym lub Mniejszym (dla odróżnienia od drugiego Apostoła Jakuba, zwanego także Starszym - przy czym starszeństwo oznacza tu kolejność włączenia do grona Apostołów), był synem Kleofasa i Marii, rodzonym bratem św. Judy Tadeusza, krewnym Jezusa. Po zmartwychwstaniu Jezusa Jakub wyróżniał się wśród Apostołów jako przewodniczący gminy chrześcijańskiej w Jerozolimie. O tym, jak wielkiej powagi zażywał św. Jakub wśród Apostołów, świadczą Listy św. Pawła. Apostoł Narodów pisze w Liście do Koryntian, że Chrystus po swoim zmartwychwstaniu pokazał się również Jakubowi. Jakub zostawił list do wiernych Kościoła narodowości żydowskiej. Napisał go w latach 45-49. Uroczystość Najświętszej Maryi Panny Królowej Polski Od wieków losy narodu polskiego wiązały się z dziejami Kościoła. W kościele katolickim szczególnie kult Matki Bożej odgrywał ważną rolę w kształtowaniu się ducha patriotycznego i religijnego Narodu. Maryja zawsze czuwała nad wiernymi. Nie tylko w spokojnych latach, ale i w trudnych chwilach. Nie opuściła Polaków podczas "potopu szwedzkiego", w czasach zaborów, powstań i wojen. To właśnie Ona dodawała sił całemu Narodowi, jednoczyła go, zagrzewała do walki. Symbolem wolności narodowej i religijnej stała się właśnie Matka Boża Częstochowska na Jasnej Górze. W 1655 roku Szwedzi napadli na Rzeczpospolitą. Ojczyzna nie była na to przygotowana. Naród był skłócony, szlachta podzielona. Sytuacja doprowadziła do zajęcia kraju przez Szwedów. Przekazy mówią, że 8 listopada 1655 roku wojska wroga stanęły pod murami Jasnej Góry. Najeźdźcy byli przekonani, iż twierdza się podda równie szybko jak reszta kraju. Wbrew zdrowemu rozsądkowi, Polacy oddani Matce Bożej, postanowili stawić czoła ogromnej armii wroga i bronić się do ostatniego żołnierza. Niewielka armia Maryi odniosła zwycięstwo. Wydarzenie to miało zatem nie tylko znaczenie polityczne ale również religijne. Król Jan Kazimierz docenił opiekę Matki Boskiej i 1 kwietnia 1656 roku złożył uroczyste ślubowanie w Katedrze Lwowskiej, oddając kraj pod jej władanie. Od tej chwili Maryja stała się patronką i Królową Polski. W 1962 roku papież Jan XXIII ogłosił Maryję Królową Polski. Została ona patronką Polski wraz ze św. Wojciechem, biskupem męczennikiem i św. Stanisławem. Święto rozpoczyna w kościołach katolickich nabożeństwa ku czci Maryi z codziennie śpiewaną Litanią Loretańską i pieśniami maryjnymi.
