AUGUST 31, 2014 TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and pleasing and perfect. - Romans 12:2 DOING GOD S WILL The language of Jeremiah as he addresses his yearnings to God he says, You duped me, O LORD, and I let myself be duped indicates a close and personal relationship with God. It is one the prophet obviously cherishes despite the derision and reproach it brings him. In the Gospel, Jesus indicates a similar bond with his Father. In spite of the difficult challenges presented by following God s will, Jesus is not deterred. Giving up our own worldly cares and dreams, even as we accept pain and suffering, is more than a fair exchange for doing the will of God. The only way to do God s will is offer our whole selves to God. As St. Paul writes in the Letter to the Romans: Do not conform yourselves to this age but be transformed by the renewal of your mind. LABOR DAY - in the United States is a federal holiday which is observed on the first Monday in September each year. The holiday originated on Sept. 5, 1882 as the Central Labor Union of New York City sought to create a day off from work for the working citizens. Some cities hold parades, community picnics and political rallies. Whatever your choice of celebration have a safe and happy Labor Day! The rectory office will be closed on Monday, Sept. 1st. NOVENA AND DEVOTION TO SAINT JOSEPH On Wednesday, September 3rd we will pray the Novena and Devotion to our Basilica Patron. As summer winds down, this is a great opportunity to think of the upcoming Fall and evaluate our future by asking for God s blessings through the intercession of Saint Joseph. It is a time to be thankful for what we have and ask for needed graces. The Parish Council will carry the statue of St. Joseph from the Our Lady of Czestochowa Chapel to the sanctuary. We ask parishioners and friends to join us in this evening service. Please print your intentions legibly on the petition slips to be read during the devotions. Page 3 FIRST FRIDAY CELEBRATION The devotional practices have a long history in the Catholic Church. The day is associated with an increased number of Eucharistic celebrations adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and prayers throughout the day. We ask our parishioners to join the Sacred Heart Society on Friday, Sept. 5th to participate in the 6:30 & 7:00am masses followed by adoration throughout the day concluding at 3:00pm with the Chaplet to the Divine Mercy and Benediction. Adorers are requested to attend at their scheduled time. A mass will be celebrated at 7:00pm in the Polish language. SAINT JOSEPH SCHOOL 2014-2015 This past week we welcomed our well rested - tanned and healthy students from Kindergarten to Grade 8 to begin the 2014-2015 academic year. This liturgy of thanksgiving to God for many years of faithful witness to the sacredness of Christian marriage honors couples who are marking significant anniversaries (25th, 50th, etc.) this year. Cheerleaders going to Philadelphia!! During the summer, several cheerleaders from St. Joseph School voluntarily attended a 3-day cheer camp sponsored by Universal Cheerleaders Assoc. Jessica Gardner and Hannah Iozzo were chosen as All American Cheerleaders and have been invited to participate in the 95 th Thanksgiving Day Parade in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The girls will be representing not only Webster and Dudley but St. Joseph School as well. However, as with all events, there is a cost associated with it. To assist our girls to attend this event, we will be having a Butter Braid fundraiser beginning on Aug. 27 through Sept. 16. Delivery will be Oct. 7, 2014. Religious Education is a vital part in the formation of spirituality and character of a young person. Rz 12,2 Wypełnianie woli Bożej. Sposób w jaki Jeremiasz zwraca się do Boga wskazuje na ich bardzo osobistą relację, gdy mówi Oszukałes mnie Panie, a ja pozwoliłem się oszukać. Prorok ceni sobie tę relację z Bogiem bez względu na to, że jest to powodem szyderstw i wyrzutów. W Pismie sw. podobną relację widzimy pomiędzy Jezusem a Jego Ojcem. Wypełnia On wolę Ojca bez względu na trudnosci I wyzwania jakie się z tym łączą. Wyrzeczenie się ziemskich przyjemnosci I zakaceptowanie bólu i cierpienia jest konieczne, aby zaakceptować wolę Bożą.
