Sunny Rainy słonecznie deszczowo Grammar Notes: 1)The words słoneczny (sunny), deszczowy (rainy), mglisty (foggy) are adjectives describing nouns they refer to: deszczowy dzień (rainy day), słoneczny miesiąc (sunny month), mglisty ranek (foggy morning), suchy rok (dry year). The adjectives in Polish must agree with the noun they qualify in number, gender and case: deszczowy dzień (masculine gender), deszczowe lato (neuter gender}, deszczowa zima (feminine gender). Adjectives qualifying neuter gender in nominative, vocative and accusative singular end in e, deszczowe lato, adjectives qualifying masculine gender end in y, deszczowy dzień, adjectives qualifying feminine gender end in a, deszczowa pogoda. 2) English sentences beginning with it for impersonal verbs such as it is warm, hot, dry (jest ciepło, zimno, sucho) correspond to impersonal construction in Polish sentences: jest ciepło, (it is warm), pada deszcz (it is raining). It does not have an equivalent in the Polish language and is not translated in such sentences. Words denoting weather are all adverbs. They are not declined in Polish, and have the endings o or e (-ly in English), and they tell us how things are: Jest ciepło (it is warm), jest deszczowo (it is rainy), jest słonecznie (it is sunny), but when we say pada deszcz, (it is raining), we describe the action of the rain falling, and it is not expressed by the adverb, but by the verb (pada)+ noun(deszcz). 3) Vocabulary: miesiąc month rok year ranek morning wieczór evening opady śniegu snowfall opady deszczu rainfall silny wiatr strong wind deszcz ze śniegiem sleet mroźno frosty. 5.
