2. Look at the pictures below and listen to the descriptions of people s appearances. This woman is young. She is tall and thin. Ta kobieta jest młoda. Ona jest wysoka i szczupła. This man is also young. He is of average height and has a medium frame. Ten mężczyzna jest także młody. On jest średniego wzrostu i średniej postury. 1. In describing personal appearance, use the verb być (to be) with adjectives; Jolanta jest wysoka, (Jolanta is tall), Karol jest młody ( Karol is young), Ja jestem niski ( I am short). Use the verb mieć (to have) with nouns; ten chłopiec ma ładne ciemne oczy (this boy has pretty brown eyes), Ala ma krótkie kręcone włosy (Ala has short curly hair). 2. Singular nouns in nominative case masculine gender end in a consonant; człowiek (man, a human being, a person), chłopiec (boy), żołnierz (soldier), *exception: mężczyzna (man, adult human male). Feminine gender nouns end in -a ; kobieta (woman), dziewczyna (girl), sukienka, (dress). Neuter gender nouns end in -o or e; oko (eye), dziecko (child), słońce (the sun). 3. Adjectives describe the nouns to which they refer and they must agree in gender. Adjectives qualifying masculine gender nouns in nominative, vocative and accusative cases end in y; czarny kapelusz - black hat, młody człowiek - young man. Adjectives qualifying nouns in feminine gender end in a; biała sukienka - white dress, jasna cera - light skin. Adjectives qualifying neuter nouns end in e; czerwone oko - red eye, duże dziecko - big child, jasne słońce (bright sun). 3.
