4 Dear Parishioners and Friends, Man needs joy and life, but do we believe Jesus, when He says His Blood and Flesh is our real feast? Jesus, as he spoke to a very moved Catherine of Sienna, said: I gave my blood in the house of the mys cal body of the Holy Church, I gave my love so that it could for fy the courage of those who want to be real knights in the ba le against their own sensuality and imperfect body, with the world and the devil. Inebriated with the blood they won't give up, courageously figh ng even un l death, they will force all enemies to run. This is what I call the headquarters of my church! In the parable about the Good Samaritan, the inn where he laid to rest a a red lifeless man, is called, from Greek a PANDOCHEION or a place where everyone is welcome. We should run to the temple like we are running to a restaurant! We should not live thoughtlessly, foolishly missing out on the opportunity for salva on, because decei ully and violently sin creeps into our life. Paul encourages us to take a thorough of look at our daily choices, because on the table of me, the wisdom of God and the stupidity of sin set out their goods: Blood and wine, the Body of the Son of God and the body of impuri es. Paul points his finger to drunkenness as a source of promiscuity. He also strongly urges us to fill ourselves with the Holy Spirit, who fills the human heart with the Eucharist. Without this diet we are not able to refrain from moral degenera- on. We should therefore be anxious to acquire this Blood for our own use more than we are anxious to acquire medicine during mes of disease, and we should come to the Lord's Table every day faster than we would come to the bank if it announced it is handing out free money. Therefore, our parish picnic, on August 23, in Bunker Hill, will begin with a Mass at 11: 00 o'clock in the morning. We cordially invite you all to join us! A er Mass, we will enjoy delicious food: potato pancakes, dumplings, fried trout, kebabs, sausages,pea soup and other delicacies. We will also offer various beverages, ice cream, frozen yogurt, waffles, popcorn, donuts, currant bread, pretzels and more. Adults will enjoy music from DJ "Sonet", Andrzej Gancarczyk, and Lulu and Lolo the clowns and guest characters from Disney will entertain the children. Bring your cameras and take a lots of pictures! We will also play a volleyball match for the Cup of Kazimierz Kozlowski, our Kolbe School President, and soccer matches organized by Father Mariusz Manka. Drodzy Parafianie i Przyjaciele, Człowiek potrzebuje życia i radości, ale czy wierzymy Jezusowi, że Jego Krew i Ciało mogą być prawdziwą ucztą? Jezus, przemawiając do wzruszonej Katarzyny Sieneńskiej, wyznał: Krew tę złożyłem w gospodzie mistycznego ciała, świętego Kościoła, mej miłości, aby krzepiła odwagę tych, co chcą być prawdziwymi rycerzami w tej walce z własną zmysłowością i z ułomnym ciałem, ze światem i diabłem. Upojeni krwią nie poddają się nigdy, walczą dzielnie aż do śmierci i tak zmuszają do ucieczki wszystkich swych wrogów. Gospoda Kościoła! W przypowieści o miłosiernym Samarytaninie gospoda, w której Samarytanin złożył półżywego człowieka, nazywa się z grecka PANDOCHEJON czyli miejsce, do którego wszyscy mogą przychodzić. Do świątyni powinno się pędzić jak do restauracji! Nie można żyć bezmyślnie, niemądrze przeoczając okazję do zbawienia, bo podstępnie i gwałtem wślizguje się w nasze pragnienia grzech. Paweł namawia do dokładnego przyglądania się swoim codziennym wyborom, bo na stole czasu mądrość Boga i głupota grzechu wystawiają swe poczęstunki: Krew i wino, Ciało Syna Bożego i ciało nieczystości. Paweł wskazuje palcem pijaństwo jako źródło rozwiązłości. Usilnie też namawia do napełniania się Duchem Świętym, który upaja ludzkie serce w Eucharys i. Bez tego odżywiania się nie mamy szans powstrzymać się przed degeneracją moralną. Powinno nam więc zależeć na zdobyciu tej Krwi dla własnego życia bardziej niż na lekarstwie w dniach choroby i podążać do Stołu Pańskiego co dnia szybciej niż do banku, gdyby ogłoszono w nim rozdawanie pieniędzy. Dlatego też nasz parafialny piknik, 23-go sierpnia, w Bunker Hill, rozpoczniemy Mszą świętą o godz. 11:00-ej rano. Serdecznie wszystkich zapraszam! Po Mszy świętej zaprosimy wszystkich na smaczne jedzenie: ziemniaczane placki, pierogi, smażone pstrągi, szaszłyki, kiełbaski, kiszkę, zupę wojskową, golonkę i inne smakołyki. Będą różne napoje, lody, mrożone jogurty, gofry, prażona kukurydza, pączki, jagodzianki, precelki i inne delicje. Dorosłych będzie bawić DJ z zespołu Sonet, Pan Andrzej Gancarczyk. Dzieci będzie bawić klaun Lulu i Lolo oraz goście z Disney World, Myszka Miki i Myszka Mini. Będą również inne postacie z bajek. Zabierzcie ze sobą aparaty fotograficzne a zrobicie wiele ciekawych zdjęć. Będzie również mecz siatkówki o puchar Prezesa Polskiej Szkoły Pana Kazimierza Kozłowskiego i mecz pilki nożnej, który organizuje Ksiądz Mariusz Manka. You can have your own name on a leaf or choose to name your family. Proceeds from this project will be used for repairs of the church parking area and parish buildings. 6 THE ANNUAL COLLECTION FOR THE CATHOLIC LEAGUE FOR RELIGIOUS ASSISTANCE TO POLAND September 23 Praise be to Jesus Christ! Now and forever! Since its crea on in 1943, the Catholic League for Religious Assistance to Poland and Polonia has been helping the Church in Poland. In addi on to that commitment, the League is reaching out to the Polish-American communi es across the U.S. where Polonia is present. A er studying philosophy and economics at Claremont McKenna College in California, he joined the Dominicans (Order of Preachers). The Holy Land Experience brings together the sights and sounds of the world of the Bible in a unique and interac ve way unlike anywhere else. Reynolds (john@jrwrites.com) I ve never used one myself, but over the years, I ve seen several work colleagues add well-known inspira onal tag lines beneath their email signatures. Things like Quality is not an act, but a habit. Or In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure. Or Keep always green the tree in your heart, and shining, the sun in your soul (OK I just made that last one up). My current favorite-- Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit; wisdom is knowing to not put it in a fruit salad--is one I saw quite a while back but it comes to mind today as I consider the readings for this 20 th Sunday in Ordinary Time. And the reading in par cular that brings this to mind is the first reading, from Proverbs (which was wri en in part by Solomon, who most of us agree had a pre y good head on his shoulders): Wisdom has built her house, he begins, She has set up her seven columns; she has dressed her meat, mixed her wine; yes, she has spread her table. Is anybody hungry yet? I m hungry She has sent out her maidens; she calls from the heights out over the city: Let whoever is simple turn in here; To the one who lacks understanding, she says, Come, eat of my food, and drink of the wine I have mixed! Forsake foolishness that you may live; advance in the way of understanding. Paul s Le er to the Ephesians also addresses wisdom, and it should give us all pause. Brothers and sisters, he says, watch carefully how you live, not as foolish persons but as wise, making the most of opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not con nue in ignorance, but try to understand what is the will of the Lord. Do you remember a couple of weeks ago when the crowd asked Jesus, What can we do to accomplish the works of God? Do you remember what Jesus said? He said: This is the work of God, that you believe in the one he sent. And this is where the lines between knowledge and wisdom and faith begin to blur. Knowledge and wisdom--conven onal wisdom, anyway-- can box us in. The crowds in Jesus day come to know that he performs mighty deeds. I d call that knowledge. They come to understand more deeply that he s a man of God. I d call that wisdom. A er feeding the five thousand, Jesus has them ea ng out of his hand, pre y much literally. But look what he does next. I am the living bread that came down from heaven, he says. Whoever eats this bread will live forever, and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world. Huh? This is too much for many in the crowd. And who can blame them? I mean, think of what Jesus is asking them to subscribe to. Knowledge and conven onal wisdom cannot help but balk at the Bread of Life discourse, but there comes a me when we have to throw such things out the window. And this, of course, is where faith comes in. It s good to have knowledge and wisdom. But faith can take us places that knowledge and wisdom cannot. Tomatoes in a fruit salad? That s just crazy talk. But maybe

11 VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT The President of the Polish School, Mr. Kazimierz Kozlowski, is a keen sportsmen and has been a referee for many years for volleyball tournaments.
