PASTORAL MESSAGE APRIL 30 KWIETNIA 2006 VERY EARLY IN THE MORN- ING while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb. Thus begins the resurrection account in the Gospel of John. As we read the above lines, we might wonder: Who in their right mind would get up so early in the morning and walk in the dark, especially when conditions were so dangerous? The disciples were all still afraid, perhaps for their own skin, because of what had happened to Jesus. Would they be next? Who is waiting around the corner to nab them, and do them harm? Why would anyone take such a risk? To be with Jesus. Then we might ask, who in their right mind would do that today? Who would get up early in the morning, while it is still dark, just to spend time with Jesus? Charlotte Kotek would. She does every day. She lives only a couple blocks away, but no matter what the weather is doing outside, she walks to church each and every morning by 5:30 or so. She opens the doors, changes the burned-out candles, gets the sanctuary ready for Mass, and then says her private prayers in the quiet of our shrine, alone with Jesus. She is the regular server at the 7:00 AM Mass, paying very close attention to all the details as well as to the idiosyncrasies of each priest. Then she moves on to visit the homes of several homebound people who depend on her to care for them in their daily personal Charlotte Kotek and household needs. She would be embarrassed to see her age in print for all to see, but let s just say it s been a while since her teenage years... After Jesus lay in the tomb for three days, it was the women who were the first ones to encounter the Risen Lord. The women were the ones who thought of bringing oils and spices to anoint Jesus body. It was the women who saw the angel and heard his astonishing words. It was the women who were the first evangelizers, the first to carry the good news to others that Jesus is risen. In her prayerful witness and care-filled attentiveness to those in need, our own Charlotte Kotek continues to proclaim what was first announced two thousand years ago. He is risen! Have you ever wondered how certain things get done around here, and who exactly does them? Our church community is blessed with many people who give such simple and consistent witness of prayer and service. They don t seek praise or recognition. They open and close the church, pick up the leftover bulletins, sweep and mop and dust, keep the sacristy in order, turn off the lights when we are done, dust the snow off the steps and ramp, sweep the leaves away in the fall, clear away the wilted flowers on and on. So many humble and important things, all accompanied with the whisper of a prayer. They hold a special and honored place in our community, and we are grateful to them for their faithful witness. Fr. Bylo to z okazji kanonizacji blogoslawionej siostry Faustyny. Slusznie zostala ona nazwana apostolka Bozego Milosierdzia. Cale jej zycie bylo poswiecone szerzeniu tego kultu. Pan Jezus sam ja pouczal w licznych objawieniach. Mozemy o tym przeczytac w jej Dzienniczku, w którym opisuje swoje wewnetrzne przezycia. Lektura tej ksiazki jest czyms bardzo pozytecznym. Pewna siostra zakonna powiedziala mi, przez Dzienniczek Jezus stal sie dla niej blizszy. Ta odnowiona relacja z Jezusem pomogla tej siostrze przejsc przez ciezka choroba. Bardzo cierpiala, otarla sie o smierc, ale jak opowiedziala mi pózniej, pozostala wewnetrznie pelna pokoju. Mysle, ze warto dodac, ze ta siostra ma ponad 80 lat i cale jej zycie bylo oddane Bogu. Pomimo to, Dzienniczek byl dla niej cennym odkryciem i pomoca w poglebieniu wiezi z Jezusem. Chwala Panu! Ale wrócmy do przemówienia Benedykta XVI z ostatniej niedzieli. Papiez powiedzial o Sludze Bozym, ze tajemnica milosiernej milosci Bozej stanowila centrum jego pontyfikatu. Slusznie. MAY CROWNING ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON, MAY 7TH The month of May is filled with beautiful and important celebrations at our Shrine Church! With our annual celebration of the feast of St. Stanislaus at the bi-lingual 10:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, May 7th, the fabulous day will continue with the traditional crowning of the image of the Blessed Virgin Mary at 4 p.m. that same afternoon. Once again, thousands of rose petals will float down from the sky as people from all over the Cleveland diocese gather to honor the Mother of God on the first Sunday of May. As is customary, the event will include recitation of the rosary, singing of songs, offerings of flowers as well as the formal coronation. COMMUNITY NEWS APRIL 30 KWIETNIA 2006 ST. STANISLAUS ATHLETIC PROGRAM St. Stanislaus Athletic Program is hosting a benefit night at Burger King on Broadway. Burger King has offered to donate 20% of all dinner sales generated by our group. Please come and support the school s athletes on May 11, 2006 from 4:00pm 8:00pm. There will be raffles every hour. Come and enjoy great company while helping St. Stanislaus earn money for new uniforms and equipment. THE DAD S CLUB OF ST.
